Hey, Lou. Do all of us viewers a favor - When you install the engine, take extra special care in documenting it; When you fire up the engine for the first time, take extra special care in documenting it; When you take it for a spin for the first time, take extra special care in documenting it... We want to feel like we are there right with you in the passenger's seat! Cheers!:)
And to remove/install the right fuel tank, it's very helpful to disconnect the lower shock bolt, loosen the A arm pivot nuts and flex the suspension down 1 1/2" or so. Like I said, pretty easy :)
I know it's too late for this exercise, but if I remember correctly, those holes in your perf metal top and just undersize from a 1/4 x 20 bolt. You can thread a couple into the perf and just a strap or metal band to clamp down on oddball shapes. It's either a 1/4 x 20 or a 6mm one or the other. In woodworking, I just drive a screw into my bench top and a web strap.
Awesome stuff Lou, engine install getting closer now! Great to see your watching some Aussie content in your down time, I also enjoyed that series. Cheers from Sydney, Australia!
My UK car didn't have any tubes on the headers, just blanking plugs for an analyser. But then I would set the carbs up using the hosepipe and screwdriver method and the dealer would just put a probe up the tailpipes to check the result. Worked just fine. Perhaps it was a North America thing? The filler drain originally just sort of stopped in space half way down the back of the LH tank. I fitted a longer one that reached to the bottom of the car. Hope this helps.
Was hoping to see the engine going back in on this episode. But you are making good progress. I noticed the tank straps too, glad you caught it. (edited to remove my faulty memory) Someone used to make plugs to fill the air injector holes. But those are in the heads themselves.
Well done and thank you for the nice update! The gas tanks are a real bear, much more so than one would expect. You should really reconsider plugging the sniffer tubes on the header: Mine were in the same condition as yours, and it probably took me less time to rebuild a set using brake tubing than it took you to plug them up so nicely. You can use them with a CO analyser to tune the fuel mix (that is what the factory did, it's in the WM. No such thing as a 4-way analyser from Ferrari). I had some issues at start and it would have been almost impossible (unless I turn into Ian Tyrrel) to troubleshoot them without this! If you have not already done so, it's a good idea to weld an O2 sensor bung on the pipes on each side... Good luck!!
@@LouTrottier you should do a "I did a thing" unveiling party for when it's finally complete. Don't show the finished product in a video, upload the video AT the party and when the video is over, pull off the cover and reveal the finished project. Then take people for rides for $10, but the $10 is for a local charity, food bank or something.
Hey Lou- you need to add the direct monetization option. I watch a few car channels religisously and yours is one of my favorites (although I would love more frequency of uploads) but you're the smallest channel. Help us help you make it worth the effort - add the monetization option and hopefully we can hget you over the hump of getting enough subcribers and viewers that it starts paying off. I appreciate your keeping it up but you need more for it to financially make sense. If you have a patreon or other option (Venmo, etc), let me (and your other hopefully similarly minded viewers know! Keep it up! Love the content and the 308!
1:42 наступного разу грійте до червоного кольору, це ж випускний колектор він і так жариться до 700° з ним нічого не станеться. А потім можно відкрутити пальцями, як охолоне, звичайно)) 2:26 грійте колектор, а не болт)
I'm always looking at that rear firewall/bulkhead of 308s and thinking that I would cut that thing out and put a plate in with lots of screws around the parameter to maintain structure. Then I could service the back side of the engine from inside the cabin like the 360. Is there any reason one could not do that? You might need to reroute a few things, but it looks pretty clean.
Lou's assessment of the ports fitted to the exhaust manifolds (headers) is correct. Those aforesaid ports enable the sampling the exhaust gas while performing a tune up of the carburetors.
@@LouTrottier I have a buddy 2 doors down who is a snap on dealer. I helped him unpack a tool box...how much is this worth? $22,000 Me: HOLY CRAP!!! what drawer does the thai girl pop out that gives you a back massage?
