Cool car. I wish there was a video actually detailing the swap and the ls engine build.

Great video! Would happen to share what setup did you use for the frame pads and motor mounts? I will be LS swapping my 70 Chevelle this summer!

Back in the Day the Speed limit was 70 MPH they ran a 3 speed auto and 2:70 rear end I got 22 MPG with my '73 Chevelle winter beater had 1970 heads 64 cc's for 9 to 1 compression Wieand SPP2 Economy intake headers and a spread for mechanical Holley 450 carb .. and I beat 400 Trans Ams with it .. I paid $300 for the car rather rusty and had to change the oil with a putty knife

In the early 70's the speed limit was 70mph. It wasnt until the late 70's when they lowered it to 55.

how did you get the steering rack to clear the oil pan at full lock, i have the f body oil pan.
@speedwaymotors
@speedwaymotors 4 года назад
Our Chevelle does not have a rack, it still has the box/pitman arm setup. But we noticed that with the 383, the grease zerk on the inside of the right tie rod end was hitting the pan, so we took it out and put a set screw in its place. Since doing that, we have noticed no interference on the LS oil pan.
@mhfuXmonsta

Speedway Motors thank you, I had to shim the motor mounts and frame mount to get it to clear.. still have the zerk fittings on the ends as well.

The title of this video was very miss leading. Being PROUD Chevelle owner I am right in the middle of doing a LS Swap, I was disappointed about the video. Reading from the comments me and others were wanting to see the rebuild.

you guys have the suspension set up too stiff, you're driving down the road with your heads bobbing up and down like a bobble head dash toy. looks like you have urethane sway bar, A-arm, trailing arm, body mounts in it ? surest way for an uncomfortable crappy ride in an old car ! they were made to have soft rubber bushings all around, the only place you can get away with urethane on the sway bars. ask me how I know.... but all in all, good informative project and video

We do look a bit like bobbleheads, don't we? The ride is firm compared to a stock Chevelle, but that's what we wanted! Behind the wheel, it feels responsive and firm, but not harsh. The springy stock bench seat has a lot to do with the bouncing that you see on camera. Also, the adjustable shocks are set pretty firm. If we wanted to, we could soften the ride up significantly by turning down the compression and rebound on the QA1 shocks.

What type of intake is that
@speedwaymotors

The intake used comes in this kit: FiTech 70001 Ultimate LS EFI, LS1/LS2, 500 HP, w/o Trans Control www.speedwaymotors.com/FiTech-70001-Ultimate-LS-EFI-LS1-LS2-500-HP-w-o-Trans-Control,279663.html Thanks!

now compare the LS to a big block LS7 454 or 427, and see how impressive the LS is not. remember there's no substitute for cubic inches.
@generagan5977
@generagan5977 5 лет назад
I found a substitute for cubic inches... its called boost!
@speedwaymotors
@speedwaymotors 5 лет назад
+tunnelportterror Agreed, there's no replacement for displacement! We will always have a soft spot for the old big block, but consider that this LS-based engine made almost 500 horsepower out of 364 cubic inches. Compare that to a solid-lifter, 11:1 '70 LS6 that made about the same power with 90 more cubes. They both have their place, and we love both of them!

Gene Ragan 😂😂😂 Great answer!
@HERodriguezJr
@HERodriguezJr 5 лет назад
Agreed, tunnelportterror. The LS definitely has it's place and I totally respect them. With that said, in a car like this Chevelle (or like my 69 Chevelle) :), there definitely is a certain character about having a badass carbureted big block 454. If I wanted an LS motor, I would personally just buy a late Camaro or Corvette with an LS and build that.
@jonellwanger7258
@jonellwanger7258 5 лет назад
Gene Ragan lmao dumb answer. So what about boost? what do you think happens when we boost 454 cubic inches...? It squashes your small block ls whatever. No replacement for displacement. PERIOD.
@VenusEnchantress

Wasn’t the whole idea for this build was keeping it like a old school hot rod? So why put a LS motor in it? I mean I get it. It’s a project car. Try it all. But I go definitely like to see it with a big block next. Perhaps a 572?
