Exactly. Nothing like getting a RU-vid notification from the only channel I’ve enabled it on. Thankful to this channel for his automotive curiosity and diagnosing skills. Keep it going PM 👍

Fantastic work. Gives me motivation to tackle some of this on my M5. Maybe a commenter already said, but you should make clear that the BMW coolant needs to be mixed 50/50 with water, it doesn't go in full strength.

@practical enthusiast If/when you finish this refresh and enjoy all the miles with smiles, I'd love to see you put this beautiful unicorn up for auction on BaT. You'd stand to make the most and the comments sections would be enjoyable to follow! Best of luck, thanks for the vids! Hope you're next project is an E28!

Thanks for the comment - that's likely the plan for this one once it's done. It'll be a bit too nice for regular Midwest usage so I'll have to say goodbye to it. I would love to pick up an e28! We'll see if one comes around.

Hey sir, congrats on all your well done videos. Unfortunately you missed 2 main components that should be replaced as well, which are the cooling pipes right under the intake manifold since you were already there. Then it would be a complete job. but great job overall. thanks for ur videos. C ya around.

Not sure if you replaced the plastic fan but that is the one thing that should absolutely be done. They become brittle, break and can shred your belt and dent the hood.

Why do I have to buy access to the parts list
@82lowe36id
@82lowe36id 10 месяцев назад
Found a crack in my radiatoer right by the connection for the upper hose. My E39 is a 2002 with 60,000 miles on it. It seems the SE Texas heat has taken its toll on this car. Everything I touch that is plastic seems to crumble and fall apart. I go to fix one thing and that leads to another and so on.

Which model milwaukee ratchet do you have? Do you find it has enough tourque for most small/mid size fasteners?
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 года назад
It's a M12 Fuel 3/8 ratchet and it works awesome for small/mid fasteners. I don't usually use it for breaking them loose but certainly for unscrewing. Saves my wrists a ton of wear. It has a variable trigger to prevent you from overtightening smaller bolts. I think it makes out at around 50 ft/lbs.

@@PracticalEnthusiast Thanks. Theyre now a common sight in auto youtube channels. The smallest model seems ideal for engine bay and motorcycle work.

First of all - GREAT videos man! I’m curios to understand why you did not remove the air intake manifold and change the coolant pipes below? Are they less likely to crack or? Greetings from Denmark - Scandinavia
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 5 месяцев назад
If I were to do it again, I would replace the coolant pipes under the intake manifold. At the time I didn't see the need on this car since the mileage was so low.
@henrikthiemer6692
@henrikthiemer6692 5 месяцев назад
Thanks a lot for your reply! My e39 has very low milage too - but I was thinking that the plastic might get brittle after 20 years. However - the lazy part of me tells me not to do it, as removal of the air intake manifold seems like a complex job with lots of cables and connections everywhere …

Hello from Spain, nice video. I have 525i e39 m54 and i have changed the thermostat and radiator. The temperature in the hidden menu up to 99° and i want to ask you if its normal for this engine, because thernostato is completly open to 97°. Best regards!

Is FCP Euro slipping when it comes to parts kits these days? Seems like there more expensive and less convinient. Idk maybe the market these days too but im not sure.
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 года назад
In my opinion, yes. I spent quite a while comparing both ECS Tuning & FCP Euro coolant kits against what you could spec out yourself and the quality and price discrepancy was considerable.

Gotta say with all of the work done so far, I’d estimate it would have been a $3.5-4K shop bill at an independent shop. Any idea what the estimate would be for the work you’ve done?
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 года назад
Hard to say honestly. I'll have close to $3k in parts by the the I'm finished. Most shops wouldn't take the time to clean anything - they're definitely in the business to do it as fast as possible. I'd say a few grand in labor alone would be realistic.
@petemo94
@petemo94 2 года назад
@@PracticalEnthusiast if you had 3 grand in parts then I’d add another $4k on labor. Possibly even $10k overall if bmw did it. Well done sir, it’s a ton of work but the peace of mind is worth it!
