Trashed Land Rover to stunning beauty. Off the frame restoration utilitarian style, after all a real Land Rover was sought for it's ruggedness. Well done Max, I'm enjoying all your videos.
Its brilliant to see Kermit taking shape. I can say from experience its hard enough doing the work on a refurb like this without filming it too, thanks for sharing. The comment about replacing one big dent with hundreds of small ones cracked me up.
The one thing I like most is that you're not applying gobs of filler to hide the hammering on the panels, a lot of people go to so much effort to make things look smooth and perfect that it extends a project by years, cos at the end of the day, it's a work horse, not a show horse... :P
This Ladies and Chaps, is what a REAL Restoration looks like. Thanks Maximus for the Journey. Of course we look forward to take us through the M.O.T and a Trip around the Countryside.
Technically, being a 1978 model it’s tax and MOT exempt. Although after such an in-depth restoration it wouldn’t hurt to put it through one just to check you haven’t missed anything. Fantastic job so far though.
I find watching other people paint stuff very soothing - I know how much hard work the preparation is! This is wonderful - getting down to the finishing details ... soon!
I used that sound deadening material on a van when converting it into a campervan. Really made a huge difference. It stopped sounding like an old builders van and made a much nicer driving experience. I found you only really need it in the middle of a large panel. No need to go edge to edge.
Early on I was surprised by the colour choice and liking it even less as it progressed, but now it is looking great. Good call. The disco rims suit it as well. I think they are the few non series rims that look good on both series and defenders. The build is really coming along, but still a crazy amount of fiddling and fettling to do. Just like building a house, the last little bits can take forever.
Well done Max - this is going to be some mean machine! Love the way you improvise your way through the build - the old Landie should survive for a long time once it's complete. Thanks for the video, entertaining and informative.
The high speed tap tap technique on it`s own is worth the visit. Can`t wait to see the biggest smiles ever when you and Mark go on the maiden voyage. Hopefully grandad can make another appearance soon.
You’ve always impressed me Max, but today you raised the bar sir. Brilliant project reflecting your vision and dogged perseverance. Inspiring, entertaining and educational. Thanks for sharing.
Wow not only working out what goes where, it has taken some editing to show the rebuild in correct order. It must have taken months of prep work then too edit the filming in order . Hearty congratulations !!!!
That is amazing I love it. You don't make it look easy either you make it look exactly as hard as it is and we can see the massive amount of time and effort you put in bravo sir, bravo.
Unless you've done similar or watch videos like these, very few people realise. Especially PO'ing when a cunt door dings my Landy and says "it's just a old Land Rover"🙄
I must say I wasn’t keen on the choice of colour but watching it all come together it’s an absolute winner! Well done Max incredible work looking forward to seeing the end result.
Wasn’t sure when you decided on the sand colour max but wow I’m so impressed now, the contrasting black parts make it look outstanding. Well done you, can’t wait to see it go on the road 👍
Worked on my bonnet. Just absorbing the top end racket from the tdi is a massive improvement. I suspended a double layer of felt underlay sandwiching a sheet of compressed cotton waste( top of a bed base, out of a skip, just like the heavy felt). It’s hanging under the bonnet on for studs I welded onsupportinga nought and crosses grid of thin hardwood laths. Works well. It wasn’t improved by putting the under bonnet foam onto the underneath of the bonnet. The more water absorbent the better when it comes to sound, the foam does reflect.
Great Progress - looking good - keep up the good work -- the smile on your face gets bigger as the landy becomes more complete ! ! ! She will be a unique and fun vehicle when complete ! !
Bloody brilliant max!, make sure you block all the holes in the bulkheadwith grommets or mastic, and add as much soundproofing to the bulkhead as you can1 It makes a huge difference! cracking video! Phil, East Yorkshire
wonderful i will try to keep watching and also get my wide to watch as she got me into landrover 23 years ago mind you i always lie them from when I was young
The under bonnet work I did on mine I’d say is the No 1 must do in sound management. Second to that I’d say covering the trans tunnel and the bell housing cover. I dodo matted the inside of both of them and added stick on silver foam stuff where there’s room. Then inside the vehicle I made a double felt cover for the trans tunnel and bell housing with red vinyl from an old recliner chair so it looks similar to an engine cover you’d find on an old foden lorry or a Yeates bodied Bedford bus( like the one I lived in for five years) that provides quite a degree of civilisation without going down the massive expensive awkwardness of a one piece Wrights off road mat Rover did something similar in the station wagons, kind of black oil cloth outside and carpet underlay straw inside. Exmoor canvas door cards are very handy and being canvas soak up quite a bit of ambient clatter as well.
Thanks for the info, always good to hear someone's actual experience. That's interesting about the door cards, I've not yet seen any I like the look of so I'll check out the Exmoor canvas ones.
@@maximusironthumper I’m not a fan of a cubby box in the middle. I’m six four and need a bit of space on a longer drive. The exmoor canvas door cards are excellent for organising stuff and I have one of the wedge shaped trays underneath the middle seat for more stuff( bulb s ,lead light, notebooks etc)Phil Steamwally has a set as well, they got a name check in one of his update vids.
Fantastic - That's what we call 'hand built' If I could do a fraction of the work with your skill I would be very proud of how the LR is now starting to gain shape and look like they were when built but with some nice improvements
🎉cracking the bonnet is perfect. great idea with the sound proofing. it will also help with corrosion with the two different metals. Camel trophy has nothing on this vehicle.🥳
