Thank you. We are using plastic totes at the moment. Definitely easier to move and keeps the dust out. We’re just figuring a way of making it look neat and space saving. Plus the weight as you mentioned. Living in the truck full time we need it to work for us! Can you recommend a light weight strong material that would work for cabinets on top?

Thanks Jon. Need to do more research to find one that is cost effective and will suit our needs, space and easy to install. If you have any recommendations please let us know.

Depending on the outside temperature and your power supply,400 watts is very low for a dry heat

Oh, you recognised it! 🤣The space would be nice, but the Tacoma is lighter and we feel we can get to more places.

Oh, we were averaging 25 mpg with our old topper and all our stuff. Unfortunately, with this new topper it's dropped between 15 and 20mpg. less when we are off-roading.

We have lots of ideas and they keep changing. We’ll probably wait to do a conversion until we get back to SD. We can use our friends place as they have all the tools too. Can’t do it being on the road.

It's very liberating only having the things we actually use and need. No clutter! I think we will get a bug catcher though. I always rescue moths as best I can. Mozzis and flys get squished - oh and spiders of course, although only ever found a couple the whole time we've been truck camping. Steve did come across a huge one inside our petrol cap. I must admit, it was even big for my standards and wasn't a tarantula ! Don't know what it was, but it is now in spider heaven!

​@@PinInTheAtlas in spider heaven, love it 😂 The daft thing is, even though I still get the jitters finding a spider in my cabin (I'm teaching myself to try and get over my fear of them!) I never kill them. Always grab a glass, stick it over them, grab paper or something to slide under the glass, then teach that spider how to fly! One time the closest thing at hand was a cat dish to put over a spider. Next thing I saw was the plastic cat dish 'walking' across the floor lol! That was a tricky critter to capture. I had one of those bug catchers, for some reason I couldn't get the hang of it. There were lots of spiders with missing legs in Yarmouth for a while hahaha. Good grief, I wonder what species of spider that was under your fuel cap? If I'd have been Steve, sod the trying to get over my fear, I'd have shouted "FU*K" a lot and flapped my arms around like a demented chicken 🐔!! I certainly need a male version of an Andrea in my life 🤣🕷😱 Well, my next project is to declutter. I've got wayyyy too much stuff that doesn't bring me joy anymore. Errr! he did flap his arms around a lot, and the "F" word was used. And yes, it was Andrea to the rescue. I must admit though, after I fell about laughing and actually got the thing out of the cap and stomped on it, I did say, "OK, that was a biggy, I'll give you that one." Still have no idea what type it was or if it was a killer. I think it hitched a ride from an old mining camp we stumbled across high in the mountains of Utah. Who knows. But we saw his teeth and jaw flex before he bit the dust!

We have bought an electric blanket. Just a $20 one from Walmart. It seems to do the trick so far. What do you do for condensation?

Thanks David. We had a mini van for several years. Loved it. We took all the seats out the back and put a mattress in. Took it off roading one too many times though and it’s now in minivan heaven! Hence Tonto!

we haven’t noticed any wind noise but to be honest we keep the speed below 60 as much as possible as we seem to get better fuel mileage.

As far as we know you can add awnings from other outfitters. Jeff, the guy in this interview, had his own battery and solar system installed by a company in utah. We went with 4w because we were already living in the truck full time. So it made sense for our situation. We have done another video on our topper with what we like and don’t like. One thing we would recommend though is 2 ceiling fans and definitely the thermal pack- which they have upgraded. If we can answer any other questions please let us know.

That is so true Richard. Always great to hear other peoples ideas and what they have done to their rigs. Jeff was a good sport and we had a fun few days with him camping.

Cost is always a factor, Paul. Having a truck like Tonto gives us a lot more freedom to explore as we do a lot of off-roading and rarely go back the way we came. If we had a RV and towed a small 4x4 that is double the insurance, maintenance, and registration, not to mention the cost of purchasing both vehicles and the petrol towing something! Everyone has different ideas and needs. Jeff liked the idea of the Project M just as we do. Each M is built to the size of the truck, so we couldn't have had a bigger one for our truck. You make the most of what you've got. Glad you found the video informative and thanks for the thumbs up.

@@PinInTheAtlas You are right cost is a Factor, you used to be able to hire a Suburban for 10 days for around £600.00, now it cost around £2500.00. So we are roughing it in a Ford Explorer at a cost of £850.00 next month.
