A landmark moment in the life of this rebuild as the body gets lifted off the chassis for the first time. I've built a custom dolly for the body and can now get started disassembling the axles etc.
A nice picture for the location of the body bolts can be found on mgaguru.com or here :

Thanks for posting these videos. I have just purchased a 1960 MGA 1600 that will require a complete rebuild. I really like your dolly for the body and intend making one. Trevor from Canberra

Hi Alan Nice to see some progress. The dolly you have made looks just the job for wheeling the body around the garage, but. . . a suggestion if I may: it might be a good idea to put the body back on the chassis and complete all the sill, A and B pillar welding etc before taking it off. Although you have braced it, the doors on these cars are notoriously difficult to fit and if you repair the body off the chassis the gaps may alter when you bolt it back on. I did mine on the chassis. A couple of tricky welds but mostly accessible, then removed it for stripping, other welding and painting. Good luck Matthew

Thanks Matthew and yes, I completely agree with you. I've sort of been talked into removing the body by the guy who will be doing the sandblasting and acid dipping. He is keen to see the extent of the rust before I go about purchasing the panels from Kilmartins. I may end up doing the blasting in two stages i.e get the body done, put it back on the chassis, do the rust repairs, remove it again and then break down the chassis. Stil haven't made my mind up but I take your point. Thanks for the ongoing pointers.

,When the body is back on and the A and B pillars in place start with the doors and then fit the wings and adjust. Remember to fit the door seals when adjusting. This is the most difficult part of the whole assembly and make sure you leave yourself plenty of time. Good luck. Jamie

Very helpful as Im about the remove my '59 body. You mentioned you may post the dimensions of your dolly. I'd really appreciate them if you still have them. Thank you,

Jeremy, thanks for watching and good luck with your project. Sadly I forgot to take all the dimensions of the dolly before I disassembled it for a house move. I do still have the bolt location diagram and have updated that link in the video description at the top.

Aaahh, THAT'S why you couldn't engage the starting handle. No drive dog on the front of the crank! Thought it would be oil cooler in the way, or saggy engine mounts.
