You should’ve put the rear brake lines in before the fuel tank, and you’ve missed the rubber spring seat on the shock.

One of the replies below says not to do this.... Will look into it.
@andriusGNR

It's a short solution, in a long term it will turn to previous state and worse cuz heat will draw out the oils from plastic and turn it more brittle etc. I wouldn't recommend doing it 😲

I would hate to think about how much it would cost to do this level of restoration to an entire car. Probably three times the total cost of the entire car to buy second hand. The amount of labor, time and equipment required is way beyond the abilities of average car enthusiast to do themselves. I have 03 WRX STi Type UK with the usual rotting underbody sills and everything else... would probably cost as much as buying a new EV to repair it fully. Probably why 95% of old WRX and STis are now off the road. My car is a rarity now - only recently have young children took an interest in it again when they see it on road - not many left on roads compared to 10-15 years ago.
@danbarruffo7743

Restorations at this level are usually a matter for the heart not the head. I'm currently building a custom Lada for a customer. Financially it makes no sense but the end result will be an epic one off.

Loving the project, great work guys, nice to see a build with such a high attention to detail. Is it possible your car has a big brake option and that’s why the backing plates didn’t fit, I’m sure most of the other P1’s I’ve seen videos and photos of only have the smaller Subaru 4 pot calipers.
@Torque-GT
@Torque-GT 2 года назад
Yep, we have the big brake Alcon option. After speaking with Subaru apparently this was the only backing plate available for the P1 so we have to modify the smaller backing plate!

Great video, but never torque suspension bushings until the car is carrying it's own weight. It will cause binding and premature failure of the bush.

Only the subframe bolts were torqued. The rest will be done when the car is on the 4 post ramp and has a lot more weight in it

Note on those KYB shocks, they are garbage. I've had two Version 6 STIs (effectively the 4 door version of your car) and they've failed before 35,000KM on both. You'll get a tell tale knock from one corner of the car sooner or later. I'd say that's why they were hard to find as so many were replaced under warranty. I always flung them and replaced with Tein SuperStreet coilovers.

I think part of the rationale for inverted shocks is to attach more of the weight the body side of the spring rather than have it add to the wheel unsprung mass. That said, they also manage to lose their lubrication inside of 20,000 and start with the knocking. They're a pain on the later new age cars. P.S. Not using rubbers on the spring seat?

Great work, thanks for restoring such a beauty! Would like to ask if you have any sources for new old stock, or repop, weather stripping for the Impreza Coupes. Searched high and low and bought every new bit of weather strip that was still available a couple of years ago for my coupe project, but I am still missing a few bits. Any help would be appreciated!

That inverted monotube rear ends up having a knocking as time goes on. I really haven't found too man people solving that issue. They sometimes add a grease fitting that helps for a little bit but it might be great preventive maintenance. Is there a chance you might be able to address it? Keep up the good work.
@andrewlangford88

You're also missing the washers on the bolts that hold the rear subframe in. For some reason they have a huge washer on them (I'm assuming the P1 is the same as every other Subaru here)
