As far as free online informational content goes, this is incredibly underrated. The depth of knowledge and expertise is astounding. Concepts that I have learned or have yet to learn are constantly having new facets of understanding added simply by watching his explanations.
Sir, I’m trained in PM from a very long time ago, looking though as a refresher, as I’ve been asked to delivery a new fairly large project at work. Your instructional skills & knowledge show though. I.found it exceptionally useful, I hope they generate some work for you.
what a great video! the music at the end serves something like a motivation to 'do it now' thanks for this very informative video. it will definitely be a great help.
This was really detailed. Thanks. Is this the "Project Plan" or project planning process? Cause i am developing a Project Plan for a business case and will take all those plus money more into considerations
Quick clarification on the diagram on the video with the graphic share, I don't see an arrow between the Scope and Schedule of Deliverables on the video diagram, Is it required or not?
The Scope links to the schedule of deliverables via the WBS. If you see them as directly linked, then add an arrow by all means. Note that I am using scope as 'scope of work' - ie activities/tasks. So, the WBS is the tool that translates them. Some use the term 'scope' to refer to the products/deliverables. In this case, it and the Schedule of Deliverables are pretty much the same thing. Either way is fine, as long as you are internally consistent in your usage. See my video What is a Work Breakdown Structure for more detail: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-akO2Lf1fHmM.html
I am not sure I know what you mean by 'components' - it's a general term, not a piece of specific PM jargon. A WBS is a tool that breaks your project into parts - usually either by product and product component or by task/activity. Take a look at: - What is a Work Breakdown Structure - WBS? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-akO2Lf1fHmM.html - How to Create a Work Breakdown Structure: A WBS Masterclass ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PyR2VLP3xnA.html
Naveed, glad you like it, thanks. Always look in the video description! There's a download link for the graphic there. And there's also a link in the pinned post.
Traditional project management has a HEAVY load of documents at the start. So much goes in to the project before any real work is done. Planning is important but I foresee deep replanning if the real work gets even slightly messed up. (also I did not dislike video. I gave thumps up. just voicing my opinion on the heavy load)
Okay, there are two very different points here. 1. There can be a lot of documentation. But as a thoughtful PM, you will only work with the documentation that will serve either or both of the two imperatives to: (a) deliver your project effectively and efficiently (b) and to do so with good governance and accountability 2. Instead of going into a lot of detail, I'll just quote General/President Eisenhower: 'I have usually found that my plans were useless - but that the process of planning is invaluable'. What he means is that yes, things change and need to be nimble and adjust your plans. But without a plan, you won't know what's going on. Nor will you have thought through your alternatives. You don't want to have to do that when you are under serious time pressure.
@@JGernest728 In my view, WBS does not need to only show tangible deliverables - they can also include things like events and processes. Indeed, in the UK, we use WBS differently from the US approach and show activities (work to do) on our WBS. BUT HERE'S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING: Never let someone tell you that you can't use a tool in the way you want to use it. If you have a way of doing something that works for you, in the context of your project, then use it that way. Hard rules are for people who don't know how to act and don't think carefully for themselves about what is right.
Very well detailed out on PM, I learn something LRC, which stand for Linear Responsibility Chart, very similar to RACI chart. One more thing, can you give mini tutorials on BA roles and how important it contributes to the organisation or the lifecycle of a project, I know that your video content are purely for PM courses as your RU-vid name stated, but I will appreciate it if you give the opportunity to give us more insight on what BA consist of and what they should do in project management. Thanks.
Hi. Thank you. For more on the LRC: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eEHts0tKXog.html And a video about the RACI chart: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i9J_1N3-ibg.html I'll add a short video on BA to my to-do list, but it can only be introductory, as I'm no expert. I've supervised BAs but not been trained in it.
What a crash course of entire Planning process in less than 12 minutes. You are a top class Leader and Coach Mr. Mike. World needs heroes like you who share their expertise knowledge with others and help making a progressive society.
Sir, this is project plan on not start plan and this company is opening running housing project 3 years. Now you taking start project and my builder and small 45% finished working on you can think about is experiencing are working planning understanding of the operating project. MAUNG MAUNG KHAING
Superbly explained the process. This has really helped me to crack interviews and build trust during the interview. I am very much thankful to you for such a vivid explanation of project planning.
Thanks for the Lovely content again, but your Video's image says "Schedule of deliverables" is derived from "WBS" but the image you shared in your description says "Schedule of deliverables" is derived from "Scope". Which one would be ideal/true.
They amount to the same thing... The WBS is the formal way to articulate scope. The question arises, 'scope of what?'. In the UK, we talk about scope of work (tasks to do) and the WBS breaks down this work (task groups into tasks). In the US, the WBS breaks down products into smaller components (in the UK this is called a Product Breakdown Structure). Som when US PMs speak of scope, they are more often referring to the set of products. Both amount to the same thing and neither is 'right' or 'wrong'. There are pros and cons to each approach. Either way, we take a loose listing of scope and make it rigorous with a WBS.
My pleasure. I have a video, What is Resource Levelling: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IvN6kyMUe3Q.html This will answer your question and also distinguish it from resource smoothing.
Good question: because shift happens. The universe is no respecter of the plans of project managers, so it's best to have some fall-backs up your sleeve.
Mukangoga - you are welcome! Don't worry, Project HR Management is on my list. While you are waiting, I have a complete article (which will be the basis for my video) on the subject: Project Human Resource Management: A Complete Primer - onlinepmcourses.com/project-human-resource-management/
Thanks, Mike. Very comprehensive. Are your graphics, such as the path illustrated here, available elsewhere? I do screen grabs when I can, but here, your complete graphic is...well...you need to duck for me to grab it. 8-) Thanks!
Tim, you can download a PDF of the complete graphic in the full-length article, 'Project Planning Process: Navigate the Many Steps You Need' at onlinepmcourses.com/project-planning-process-navigate-the-many-steps-you-need/
Thanks, Mike. Leaning on your instructional guidance heavily. It is brilliant! I'm leading the rollout of a new CRM for our company. Most of the stakeholders are our sales team. I need to make a good impression so that they see the value in a PM so they don't feel they need to wrangle their hardware deployments on their own. I'd rather they be out selling! Tim
