One thing that could make it a bit easier to reach the floor are performance bonuses for Celebrini/Smith. Bedard earned 3.5M in performance bonuses this year which would absolutely help reach the floor if one or both of Smith/Celebrini did the same. Of course you can't rely on that happening though...they could be injured or just not quite reach the bonus numbers.

I'd re-sign Zadina. He didn't have the best season, but it was an improvement over the season prior, especially when it came to goals. He scored the same amount of goals this season as he did in the two seasons prior to this season. Sure it was only 13 goals, but our leading goals scorer only had 24 and our leading points scorer only had 16. This team was bad. Zadina is still somewhat young. He's just about to enter his prime as we bring in a bunch of elite young players. If you can get him locked up for 3 or 4 years at $1-$2 million per year, why not? Let's see how he does to the left of Celebrini. As for the other guys, I'd honestly let them all walk lol. You have the opportunity to ice a horrible, horrible team without making it too obvious that you're tanking lol. They can get to the cap floor, but I'd go with the bare minimum. Get like 10 wins, I don't care. Anything to guarantee a Top 3 pick next season cause it's looking a lot better than this year's draft.
@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants
@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants Месяц назад
The problem with Zadina is his defense and passing. He has some shooting skills but he is a defensive liability. Some players like March on the knights and Cat on the wings are like that only they have better offense. When you have players who are bellow average on defense their offense has to make up for it.

I can definitely see us making some draft day moves to take on a player with a bad contract for someone like Burroughs while we also get some picks coming back

I think Kunin signs for a slightly higher AAV than his current contract (3x3). I don't see a reason to keep Addison, even in the AHL. I'm expecting a forward addition from a contender wanting to add "a shiny new toy" to the roster, but cap limited until they free up space via trade.

My one request to Mike Grier, please get rid of Calen Addison. We took a gamble on an offensive defensemen because we didn’t have any at the time and it very clearly did not work. I always had my gripes about Addisons ability but once I saw him play in person I knew exactly why Minnesota fans were excited to see him gone. He either can’t or refuses to quarter back the power play or with extended o zone pressure. He chooses to pass the puck instead of shooting it. I have never seen someone as adamant as him to refuse to shoot the puck from the blue line. It was unbelievable.
@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants
@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants Месяц назад
Some players should never shoot. Remember Douglas Murray? he had one of the worst shots I had ever seen for an NHL player. Having bad defense brought the team Macklin so there is an upside.

The Sharks will have enough cap space to take on a bad contract that has 1 or 2 years left on it, in exchange for draft picks and prospects. They could make that move at the draft, especially with one of these cup hungry teams that need the space.
@aaronthompson2329
@aaronthompson2329 Месяц назад
As The Hockey Guy says, "The Sharks need to weaponize their cap space". They take on a couple bad contracts with 2-3 years left and load up on more round 1-2 draft picks for the next couple of drafts.

@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants
@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants Месяц назад
@@dekumyheroacademia9324 They both have a NMC so they would have to 100% agree and even if they did the sharks would need a retention slot to retrade them at the deadline and without that it might be impossible to do it. I doubt most playoff teams will have 11 mill of cap room right before the deadline even if one of the is a point per game player on the sharks. The sharks would have to trade a draft pick to another team to take on the cap or accept a bad contract at the deadline. If the leafs traded 2 firsts and 1 of them though the sharks could just keep 1 of them and let them leave a UFA.

@teknicalmadeit
@teknicalmadeit Месяц назад
I think the earliest we'll see him is at the Rookie Faceoff in early September and that's if he signs. He can't play in anything NHL-related or else he won't be able to go back to BU. I don't see him going back to BU since he is ready for the NHL, but never say never. He might feel that he'd have more success doing another year in college instead of getting dominated every night on a 15-win Sharks team lol. There is the Hlinka Gretzky Tournament in August, but he turns 18 in June and I don't know how the eligibility works for that. There might be an exception where a player who turns 18 the year of the tournament can play, but I don't know. Other than those two, the earliest would be training camp, again, if he signs. If not that then early October at BU lol.

The Sharks need to completely gut the defense. Send Thrun to the Barracuda. Buyout Vlassic for sure and sign competent D-Men who know how to play in the NHL. There are lots of free agents we can bring in. Sign them to short deals and see how things pan out.

@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants
@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants Месяц назад
The problem when you buyout a contract is the team can lose cap for many more years than just keeping him. When Doug Wilson fired Martin Jones the sharks had cap going to him for 6 or 7 years with him NOT on the team. The sharks still have cap going to Jones for 3 more years. Doug Wilson at his finest. Vlasic only has 2 more years left and the sharks do not have cap problems like before. He can only be traded to 3 teams without asking his permission and one of them is MTL. He is still good enough he can be super overpaid backup.
@gabrieltrejo2533
@gabrieltrejo2533 Месяц назад
@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants Yeah, I'm well aware of Wilson's bad contract decisions. After this season Burns' retention comes off the books plus the cap is going to go up. The Sharks are going to have plenty of cap space this season. I just don't think Vlassic is worth the money or roster spot anymore. I also think if Couture isn't back by December, they should just put him on LTIR so they can free up cap space if they need it (Vegas keeps doing it, so why can't we?) If Celebrini does in fact make the jump to the NHL, he's going to need better players to play with and there will be some decent free agents available. I just think if Greer wants to build his version of the Sharks, he should get rid of the Wilson Era players. He's traded most of them anyway.
@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants
@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants Месяц назад
@@gabrieltrejo2533 He is not worth the money or roster spot but buying him out just extends the cap problem. It is better just to keep him over turning it into a Jones situation or trading a 2nd and 3rd pick or more trying to dump him right now. Sending him to the AHL would at least give a player at the NHL his spot though as a compromise if that was possible. I do not think it as big as deal as you make it out to be it is not like he is Jack Campbell situation where he can't even be a backup. There is still tons of sharks fans who defend Doug Wilson when had the team not fired Lombardi I bet the sharks would have won a cup.
@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants
@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants Месяц назад
@@gabrieltrejo2533 As for Couture he might retire so him going on LTIR would be great. The best moves for the sharks is to trade for cap dump players or sign players to 1 year deals they can flip at the deadline for a profit. Without the retention spots it is harder trading players at the deadline though. Celebrini, Smith, Ecklund, Granny and Zetterlund just playing a line combo of 2 of those names is fine without adding anyone.
