Prokoško Jezero, a natural paradise, attracts visitors with its breathtaking beauty and unique biodiversity. A place like few others with a lake of glacial origin, surrounded by alpine meadows and picturesque wooden huts, it is a haven for numerous species native to the region such as the Alpine black salamander.
However, when visiting this ecosystem, it is immediately apparent that it is under threat from uncontrolled tourism, unplanned urbanisation and climate change. The construction of unregulated infrastructure and the increasing influx of visitors are upsetting the ecological balance of the area, endangering not only its biodiversity, but also the environment in which, unfortunately, some rubbish is already littering the site.
This chapter aims to raise awareness of how this paradise is now and to try to create an environmental conscience in those who will visit it. Travelling is not only about showing beautiful places and telling their story, it is also about helping to create a change to take care of environmental heritages like these in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
