Just found this interpretation, which takes a slower yet convincing pace. Never heard this concerto with such detailed articulation. Very interesting. Thank you!

One of the most "musical" interpretations of the Movt 1 cadenza that I've ever heard. He doesn't treat it merely as a virtuoso showpiece. Refreshing.

He gets such wonderful and varied tones out of the piano. I loved the bell-like tinkle of the first movement first subject - just pecking at the melody notes

Demidenko, you're a great engineer-pianist! Every note sounds amazingly precise and sharp.

This was a truly wonderful performance with an excellent orchestra, conductor, and a pianist who truly had this work in his fingers. And then the camera work, production... everything. Just a joy to see and hear. Many thanks to all. Love, Andre

Incredible - was this written using an ouija board?

if you refer to the fact that the manuscript was lost in a fire and that he rewrote it from memory years later, than its a funny metaphor:-)

For another perspective: Jorge Bolet's recording from the 50s is stupendous. And, right here on RU-vid, Elisabeth Leonskaja has 2 excellent live performances. Recommended.

I find Demidenko's playing here too thick and heavy and there are uncertainties and insecurities (pace andretchaikowsky), especially from 9:45, and he slows down (as do many others) at the end of the first movement cadenza where Prokofiev asks for an accelerando. I much prefer Beatrice Rana.

Yep, showing his age I guess. I've seen him live in this concerto in the late 90s and he handled the cadenza so much more confidently

No doubt. Demidenko was a wonderful technician when he was younger such as back in the good 'o 90's. I've watched him duo with Alexeev live back during those times. Those two dudes can certain rach hard. He'd turn this Prok #2 into minced meat at that point in time.

@chrislimnios9180 Год назад
Yeah, sorry, but this was too slow. There are some pieces pianists should play and others they shouldn't. Maybe he played it better when he was younger, but have some respect for the composer and don't play it unless you can play it up to tempo.
