PROOF JESUS IS A UNIVERSALIST

The Total Victory of Christ

With many concerned about the end times, and the second coming of Christ, the judgement is of great interest. Here I exhibit passages in the Gospels where Jesus is openly assuming restoration for those who go through the judgment. This really cuts to the heart of the Gospel message and every Christian should understand this. This is also Merry Christmas!

Embrace and rejoice in them as long as you are remaining in Christ through them that is, for if you do endure them faithfully, there is great reward and in them you develop in character, perseverance, and hope. This was a brilliant presentation of Biblical support for universalism. I have already accepted philosophical arguments for why if God exists, universalism would be the case, and the problem of Hell as eternal conscious torture was so strong that it would pretty much stop any evidential discussion on Christianity. This is still the case if the discussion is had with a traditionalist Christian, but the problem of Hell quickly evaporates in a discussion with a universalist. Your case here convinced me that Christians can have a robust Biblical support for universalism, and that not only is this view tenable but perhaps the one that is more likely to be true. The problem of Hell clearly does not apply to the Christian universalist. I think that most, if not all Christians should adopt this view because it does not cost them anything - it is not unorthodox, it is not heretical, and it raises the prior probability of Christianity being true significantly by overcoming the logical problem of Hell. This could be an important move in discussions with nonbelievers like me.

@@johndalton1043 I think that the point of justice is to correct cases of injustice rather than to enact retribution. Needless to say, a loving deity would probably prefer this path as well. Consider the following case: A person steals some money from someone else. The thief is found and punished by having his hand cut off. Now, consider the same case but this time the thief is made to repay what they had stolen. What use is there for the wronged party to have the thief maimed? This does not correct the injustice that was done to them. And once they are repaid, what use is their for society in general to have the thief maimed, given that they could be rehabilitated to become productive a member of society? Retribution rarely serves any justice, and certainly does not do so better than wise correction. I find it preposterous to call someone good, just, wise and loving, and vengeful and lustful for retribution at the same time. It is not simply preposterous. It is incoherent.

Will you please consider doing a video on Paul (Romans 5-18-19)? Talbott really opened my eyes to this verse. To paraphrase, he states that Koine Greek functions much like English, in that the first "all" in a compound sentence (or thought) will determine the second "all". Koine Greek doesn't have punctuations, but in order to have a coherent statement, the definition of the first use of "all" must determine the second use of "all", especially in a thought/sentence of parallel structure. Broken down in it's parallel structure, Romans 5:18-19 looks like this: 1) Consequently then / thus also 2) by the offense of one / by the righteousness of one 3) judgement came upon / the free gift came upon 4) all men / all men 5) to condemnation / to justification 6) For as by / so by 7) one man's offense / the obedience of one 8) the many were made / shall the many be made 9) sinners / righteous Whatever the scope of the first "all" is (whatever that definition might be) it has to be carried over to the second part of the thought/sentence in order for it to remain coherent. The definition of the first "all" is every single person that has ever lived, as Adam is the progenitor of the human race. Paul echos this again in 1 Corinthians 15:22. 1) For even as / thus also 2) in Adam / in Christ 3) all are dying / shall all be made alive. Who is dying in Adam? Everyone. This is the same "all" that shall be made alive. If I said, "I invited all of family to a bbq, and they all came". What is the scope of the first "all"? Is it my softball team? Is it my coworkers? Of course not. The scope of the first use of "all" determines the second. If I mean anything other than my family, then my sentence is illogical, random, and incoherent. So when I read Roman 5:18-19 and 1 Corinthians 15:22, it appears that Paul is laying out the relational status between God and all of mankind. I think he did this 3 times. Once in Romans 5:18, again in Roman 5:19, and again in 1 Corinthians 15:22.

Regarding your reference to the narrow and wide gate, yes, I agree with you. There were MANY gates that went into the SAME city. It makes no grammatical sense to infer that he's saying "enter into this place by the narrow gate, but enter into another different place by the wide gate"... That would need an entirely different sentence structure.

@artbyrobot1
@artbyrobot1 Год назад
neither gate is referring to a city in my view. The narrow gate leads to life and represents the gate you enter if you died while abiding in Christ - you enter the afterlife by the narrow gate and experience His life in paradise with Him - which is upper Hades/the bosom of Abraham in the realm of the dead where the just dead await the first resurrection. The unrighteous dead enter the afterlife and go through the broad gate that leads to destruction. This destruction begins with a long stay in Sheol/lower Hades/hell in the realm of the dead as they await the second resurrection and Great White Throne of judgement event wherein they are thrown into the Lake of Fire for purging and correction. Only after all of these events come to pass does the New Jerusalem city descend from the sky and its gates never shut and the nations enter and received healing from the leaves of the tree which is the saints. So entering the city does not happen straight away for either party when they first die. To suggest the broad gate opens up and you just walk into a heavenly city denies all punishment and apokatastasis universalism does not teach there is no punishment at all for the rebels. It teaches there is punishment but that punishment is finite and is corrective and that it is like a refiners crucible.

When I analyze the core principles of the Bible the only thing I ever had a problem with is Hell. It's the easiest concept to understand, but every Christian I have ever talk to try to justify it. I think it's just because their belief is too strong. I'm not religious atm. I actually just heard about this idea because I ran into a universal salvationist during a debate and when he told me hell didn't exist and everyone went to heaven I was pretty baffled because it aligned with everything I could feel in my heart so to say.

@@michaelm.7814 I would like to point out that mentioning God killing everyone, including animals, to prove your ideology is a weak argument. It could give non-believers a reason to attack Christianity and ridicule God. It's best to avoid using such arguments. Punishment serves the purpose of correcting bad behavior. Eternal punishment, on the other hand, is meaningless as it cannot correct someone's behavior. As for justice, if you sin against God or someone else, it is their right to forgive you or not. If you sin against others, they will most likely forgive you after you have suffered enough, and they see that the suffering you imposed on them was not endless. This is justice. If you sin against God, it is His right to forgive you or not. While I am unsure if there is a sin against Him that leads to eternal suffering, our understanding of God is that He is merciful and forgiving. It is most likely that He will forgive you.
@Metarig

@@michaelm.7814 You are right that God sent the flood to destroy the wicked, but you are wrong to think that this means they were eternally lost. The Bible says that God did not leave the spirits of those who died in prison, but that he preached to them through Christ (1 Peter 3:18-20, 4:6). This shows that God did not give up on them, but gave them another chance to hear the gospel and repent. God’s love and mercy are greater than his wrath and judgment. He does not desire anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). The flood was not the end of their story, but a part of their journey towards salvation.

Apprehending this after a life time of believing lies was not only an absolute lifting of yoke and falling of chains but now reading the Word from this divine perspective is like reading it afresh. The Fathers plan and accomplishment of it becomes clear in most all of scripture. I will say to reach this apprehension doesn't come from within a man. It is a revelation from above and not a choice from a human faculty. For with man it is not possible. But with God ALL things are!!! Just in the same way we were born in the flesh through Adam which was NOT a choice. We must be born again in the Spirit through Christ which also is NOT a choice, but a revelation. Belief comes AFTER this revelation of salavtion,, repentance come after. Not the other ear around that religious christianity has taught. To assume that salvation comes based on our choice, our brief, our merits is evidence of us being our own god. Just in the same way I don't like to claim myself a 'christian' due to the adulteration of its doctrine and the meaning of the name that it has grown into. I also don't like to claim myself a universalist for the same reason. Claiming yourself a Christian to non christian closes their ears to the message you relay. Claiming yourself a universalist closes the ears of those that claim Christianity to the truth of what The Father and Jesus accomplished without our assistance. We failed in the garden and we failed in the law. God's original plan of Jesus ABSOLUTE Sovereignty and Lordship reigns supreme!! He who has ears let him hear.

He reconciled all of us to God, so why is the Lake of Fire necessary? I understand that fear is probably a mistranslation but was just curious about your intended context of what you mentioned. Wish you put videos out more often! Happy holidays!

Hey Jason, I’m not Michael but I would like to take a try at your question. In the Old Testament, when people referred to “The Fear of The Lord” it meant having reverence and being awestruck by Him. When people are commanded to have “The Fear of The Lord” they are being told to not let themselves see God in a mundane way, don’t think of Himself as someone common or just anyone else. Think of the proverb “familiarity breeds contempt”. Basically, it’s a command against that. Think of what happened with Judas, he lost reverence and respect for Christ and that lead to sin. Also, we should not be afraid of God because that shows a lack of love and trust that He is our Father and won’t forsake us (1 John 4:18, Romans 8:15, 2 Timothy 1:7, John 14:27) When Jesus told us to fear God, He meant it in the Old Testament sense and how a child “fears” his fathers discipline. The child is not scared of his dad and knows his father will always love him, but he recognizes that being scolded by dad is not fun, it’s the same with God. However, if we are chastised by God, this proves His Love for us as His true children (Hebrews 12:5-7, Job 5:17-18, Psalm 94:12, Deuteronomy 8:5, Revelation 3:19, 1 Corinthians 11:32). That’s why Jesus told us to not be afraid of any man but “fear” only God because being chastised and scolded by a Perfect Heavenly Father is not pleasurable or fun, but it’s necessary for our perfection.

@@anjeluriel4457 Thank you for your insight. I was already familiar with the idea that fear was simply another way of saying (what you said) reverence/respect, etc, and in no way FEAR God in the literal sense for the precise reasons you included in your examples from Scripture, which were excellent by the way! I was more specifically interested in the context in which Michael stated toward the end of his presentation. I agree that he was saying to fear (revere and respect God) and to fear (revere and respect) no one else, at least in the profound way that we should with God. By any means, I've believed in the salvation of all in full since around 2006 but suspected it to be true since I was a child (at least it was known to me instinctively, even if I couldn't prove it!). If you die while in Christ, enduring faithfully to the end - which few do, then no, you will not be disciplined in the next life which will be in paradise/upper hades/sheol/abraham's bosom under the earth in the realm of the dead where you will await the first resurrection of the dead during the 7 year period. If you die backslidden, lukewarm, He will vomit you out of His mouth and ask why you bother to call Him Lord Lord while not doing what He commands of you. In such case you will be separated from the sheep and declared a goat and put amongst the unbelievers in Sheol/lower Hades under the earth in the realm of the dead where the unjust dead stay. There you will be disciplined, regretting what you did to end up there and not able to have any enjoyment and there you will be for at least 1,000 years awaiting the second resurrection of the dead at the end of the 1,000 year reign of Christ on earth. You will at that point be resurrected with the rest of the unjust dead and cast into the Lake of Fire for correction and purging. Only then will you finally be brought to humility and surrender and enter into His rest. Now Jesus did preach to the souls that disobeyed in the days of Noah when his body was in the cave and so it is possible he will do this again at some future point and that there will be possibility to repent while in Hades at the preaching there. However I would not bank on this and the Bible does not make this clear as to whether it will be available. It comes off to me more as a one time special event when Jesus did this.

In the passage from Zachariah, before the verse you quote it says two thirds will be struck down and perish and one third will be in the fire (to be refined presumably). So, what about the two-thirds who perish? Doesn’t that show everyone is not saved? How is that not contrary to Universal Salvation? I ask because one thing anti Universalists accuse us of is only reading part of the texts and ignoring texts that talk clearly distinguish between those who perish and those who are saved. Thanks. So much of what you say makes a lot of sense but my concern is that words that we normally associate with their meaning like "destruction" no longer mean what we thought they meant, if then the destruction is reversed should it really have been called destruction in the first place? (but I guess all things are possible with God). In Matthew 7:19 Jesus talks about trees that don't bear fruit being chopped down and cast into the fire, it is difficult not to see a tree that is being burnt not turning to ash. I appreciate they are allegorical but the point of destruction still remain. I will continue to study and listen to your other videos.

This command was in context of judging ourselves through His word . Plucking out an eye, cutting off a hand, spiritually speaking . This is far preferable to having our whole life ( spiritually speaking) thrown into Gehenna judgement at once when our whole soul (psche) will be lost because it was built on lies. Something different?
@johndalton1043
@johndalton1043 Год назад
Hi Jack. There are several fractions of Christian Universalism. Some believe hell doesn't exist at all. I fall into the camp that "hell/Gehenna" does exist, but is limited in duration (universal reconciliation). In my opinion, both views are claiming Christus Victor. We do not believe in a partial Messiah. When I read Romans 5:18-19, it appears that Paul is laying out the relational status between God and man. Man's sins are due to Adam. Man is justified and considered righteous due to Christ. We read in 4 separate texts that every knee will bow and every tongue confess. The term "confess" doesn't mean to admit a wrongdoing. It means to celebrate and give praise, especially as it pertains to Revelation. In Revelation we are actually told what we will all confess. CUs usually define "aion" as "an age" instead of "eternal", unless God is the noun being modified. God adds a weight to "aion" because God is not limited time. We believe aion has been mistranslated in most commercial Bibles. It doesn't make sense in English to say "forever and ever" or "forever more". In English, the term "forever" defies pluralization. A better translation is an age, age of ages, or ages of the ages. We claim Koine Greek has a word that always means forever (aidios), but the authors did not use this word to describe punishment. Further, we claim the word for punishment (kolasis) implies correction. The authors had a word for vendictive punishment (timoria), but this word is not used to describe man's punishment in the afterlife. Add the two concepts together and I would define it as "age-abiding correction". It gets confusing, because if aion can mean "eternal" and "an age", then aion is its own antonym. If not defined correctly, one could end up interpreting aion as the complete opposite of what the author intended. Young's Literal is a word for word translation where aion is almost always defined as an age or age-abiding. Regardless, the scope of God is always eternal, as God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. I hope this helps. May God bless you on your search for truth.

The Bible says the iniquities of us all were placed upon Him and by His stripes we are healed. So there was a atonement made in a ceremonial way on the cross. It also symbolized our need to be crucified with Christ loving not our own lives unto death. We must no longer live but Christ live in us to be able to claim we are alive in Christ. His death also caused Him to gain the keys to death and Hades and caused Him to obtain the name above all names. His death paved a way back to the Father and made a way for us to have our sins taken away and our consciences sprinkled by His blood. I confess this is all somewhat mysterious or at least some aspects of this I do not fully understand. Obviously it set the perfect example of selfless sacrifice that God modeled for us to follow after. It also demonstrated God's love for us perfectly in a way nothing else could. It was the greatest achievement of all achievements is clear. It certainly triggers something powerful and emotional in the heart of God and men alike to be certain. We can say that it is the only mechanism by which our sins could truly be taken away at the very least on a symbolic and ceremonial level in the sight of God and in our own consciences. It was atoning for this reason. It was a necessary model that had to be displayed for us to know what it truly is to love God and your neighbor above even your own life. It was the ultimate act of selflessness that we had to see. I would say that it was the only thing that could redeem mankind in general as a whole in the eyes of the Father - to have one man that through victory on the cross redeemed all men as far as what a man can be and what a man should be and why men are worth redeeming. One man had to do it right to make a way for all men to come back to the Father or else it would just look like man was not worth creating at all with all the failures of men in general. He proved the "human experiment" was not a utter failure in a sense - although we know that God foreknew it was not a failure for God also foreknew Christ's death on the cross from the beginning. It was largely the thing that made the whole of creation of man worth it overall and was the turning point for us to come back from our fall. As far as your statement that Jesus satisfied God's wrath in our place, I think that statement is suspect and inaccurate. After all, God is planning to pour out His wrath on the whole earth in the 7 year period. His wrath is far from satisfied then. His wrath and fiery indignation will also be poured out in the age to come. So no, it is not satisfied. What was satisfied is His principle that in order for forgiveness: Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. --- this principle is somewhat mysterious to me and points to Jesus death on the cross. But why this is the only way there can be forgiveness of sins is a bit a mystery for me so far. In any case, I don't see any reason why any type of theology relating to the meaning of the cross is incompatible with universalism. Any variant on atonement or what have you seems like it could fit into universalism which is only stating that the punishment of the age to come is finite and corrective in purpose.

@thetotalvictoryofchrist9838

The doctrine of Universal Restoration, Apokatastasis in Greek, is the belief that all of creation is restored by Christ over the course of the ages, which would include Satan. Although not all of those church fathers went that far. And in the original Greek Jesus didn't say people will "never" be forgiven for blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. That's a doctrinal imposition in translation. He said they will "not" be forgiven, in this age, or the age to come. Which is to say, if you do this here, there, or anywhere, you will be punished. This after explaining that all sins and blasphemy will be forgiven in the age to come. But nothing about that indicates punishment is endless. Jesus gave that warning to the religious leaders who just witnessed miracles from Jesus and attributed them to Satan, demonstrating and extreme level of obstinacy. I suspect it is that obstinacy that requires serious discipline.

Yes, but that destruction precedes salvation. See the parable of the prodigal son. Which gate did the son go through? It says he was “dead” and “lost”. WHICH COMES FIRST From Isaiah 61 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me…” - to bind up the brokenhearted - to proclaim liberty to the captives - opening of the prison to them that are bound - to comfort all that mourn - to give unto them beauty for ashes - the oil of joy for mourning - the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness I ask you, in each of the above, which came first? broken hearted or binding up? captive or liberty? prison or opening the prison? mourning or comfort? ashes or beauty? mourning or oil of joy? spirit of heaviness or garment of praise? The bad stuff all came before the good stuff. Is that bad stuff just an accident? Bad luck? Or “is there evil in the city and the Lord hath not done it”? So what about this? Which of these two comes first? “To proclaim - the acceptable year of the LORD, and - the day of vengeance of our God;” The day of vengeance comes first bringing captivity, ashes and mourning… unless we manage to enter the narrow gate. “for many, I tell you, will SEEK to enter and will not BE ABLE.” (not be strong enough). “To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. And they shall build the *old* *wastes* they shall raise up the former desolations.” old wastes olam wastes aionion wastes LXX “eternal” wastes Looks like the wastes and desolations come first. So the destruction of the wide gate can precede salvation.

Is there a church you go to gather with like minded people? The only "univeralist" churches I find are basically politically liberal churches that promote homosexuality and social justice and the like and dismiss the restorative judgment of God. I'm looking for like minded people who preach what I've heard you preach on this channel, brother.

Very interesting stuff. Christian Universalism would be the ONLY form of Christianity I would subscribe if I come back. BTW, I do want to say that the verses speaking of Kingdom of God/Kingdom of Heaven seem to be talking about NOW.. God's Kingdom, God's way of doing things here and now. So many people interpret that as some future event or next life. I think that's what gets so many people confused.

The most major issue with the idea of most of the NT stuff applying to now is that physical death was introduced by Adam's sin, and christ had to die, and ressurect physically to atone for it. All of the promises to restoration are towards what was lost when Adam. Sinned, which was a deathless sinless world. If you try to interpret most of the NT promises to mean what we have on earth right now, you end up creating the issue that physical death, and suffering, and sin all obviously still exist. So then you might try to reinterpret it to mean that christ only came to die for absolution of some kind of "spiritual" death. But if you say that it contradicts why christ would have to die, and ressurect physically in order absolve what is abarently just a soley spiritual matter. Moreover it contradicts what genesis says about what sin actually did, which was bring physical death into existence. You end up making christs sacrifice, and ressurection moot, which ends up getting rid of any point of Christianity to begin with.

@benjaminwhitley1986
@benjaminwhitley1986 4 месяца назад
@Sharon-jp2wm I would say that includes anyone as Jesus says anyone who has lusted has committed adultery (I.e. pretty much every man who’s ever existed). God is a consuming fire according to the author of Hebrews. Anything that is not of God is consumed and anything that is of God remains. Paul says everyone’s works will be tested and what is hay, wood, and stubble will be burned away, however, what is gold or silver will remain thereby some will be saved but only as going through fire (1 Cor. 3:15). Hopefully this imagery helps. This is very rare to find taught in Protestant churches, however, it IS present in scripture and used in several places. This was widely taught as well in early, primitive Christianity. So, yes the old man as Paul says it along with all its fruits (I.e. all sin) will be burned up, yet all that is of God and God’s fruits shall remain. This has helped me. Perhaps it will help you. 😊

Universalism was very prolific during the first five centuries of Christianity, and there was significant controversy over that question. The affirmative view was eventually condemned by Roman emperor Justinian in the sixth century. Of course that was just the politics of the day.

@@thetotalvictoryofchrist9838may I ask, what is your opinion on these verses, Matthew 25:46 "And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” 2 Thessalonians 1:9 "They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might," The implication of the first seems very clear that those who wind up in hell will be there for eternal punishment as it blatantly says which is contrasted to the eternality of heaven and the true life it brings. The second verse seems to describe hell as eternal destruction, seemingly describing that this destruction will not ever truly end,

I know it seems obvious to most, but some fail to make the connection between John 12:32 and Philippians 2:10-11. It's often the small things that get missed. Jesus tells of how his death, burial and resurrection/ascension will drag “All” people to himself. Paul emphatically elaborates even further on this complete victory concerning the death, burial and resurrection/ascension of Christ. Paul leaves no doubt of its universal implications. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death: death on a cross. 9 For this reason also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name, which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philip 2:8-11. Peace

Jesus paid for everyone's sins on the cross. While all are to be saved, none would be saved without Christ's death on the Cross. Universalism doesn't teach that Christ's death was not necessary.

I would be curious to hear a universalist interpretation of the parable of the vine (John 15:1-8) Cutting off a branch may be helpful for the tree but it certainly wouldn't be helpful for the branch
@thetotalvictoryofchrist9838
@thetotalvictoryofchrist9838 6 месяцев назад
I'll explain it for you. The point of the parable is that apart from Christ we can do nothing, essentially useless. But the destruction of the useless branch is useful as you can kindle a fire with it. Of course Paul clarifies this branch metaphor is related to God's covenant with Israel. Romans 11:11-24. Christ is speaking to the people of Israel. But Paul is clear on this: "Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious." Rom. 11:11 Also, Paul specifically says "all Israel will be saved" - Rom. 11:26:27

Great video. I think you successfully showed that the sayings in the Synoptic Gospels are plausibly, even best, taken as assuming universal salvation. I agree too that the saying in John seems to explicitly state a universalist view. However, I do not believe we can say whether the saying in John is an actual saying of Jesus versus the words of the Gospel writer. And you did not establish your early claim that all or most or, for that matter, any first century Jews expected universal salvation. You simply argued that some Old Testament texts seem to prophecy universal salvation. But even if you are right about that, which I believe you are, that does not tell us anything about what first century Jews we're expecting. Farrar does the best job I've seen of carefully establishing contemporary Jewish beliefs on the extent of salvation. I believe he successfully establishes that many, even most Jews, did expect temporary punishments only and so universal salvation. Again I think the video was great. My critique is intended to be constructive, in hopes that you might make an even stronger case that Jesus was indeed a universalist. You might look carefully at the metaphor of the kingdom growing into a great tree with birds resting in it's branches. I believe there is a contemporary Jewish text that uses the same metaphor in a seeming universalist way. You might also argue that all agree universalism was flourishing as early as the second century at least in Alexandria. Well, how do we explain that? Given human antipathy to the doctrine (as evidenced by the adamant rejection of it even by most Christians since the middle ages despite having embraced the tender doctrine of God taught by Jesus and the emphasis on mercy and forgiveness in the teaching of Jesus) the best explanation would seem to be that the doctrine was revealed by God and taught to these Alexandrian Christians. And if it was revealed, then that would mean by the apostles and/or by Jesus. And it is less likely the apostles themselves came up with the doctrine without any direction from Jesus and certainly not in opposition to Jesus given their view of his authority.
