In 1975, Raymond Moody coined the term near death experience in his classic book, Life After Life. For half a century, he has researched some of life’s greatest mysteries. As both a PhD in philosophy and an MD, he has had a strong interest in how medical realities intersect with the ineffable realm of philosophy. In his multiple roles as author, professor, public speaker and grief counselor, he has heard thousands of accounts of near death, shared death and after death experiences.
Paul Perry Perry is the co-author of many best-selling books concerning near-death experiences and the afterlife, six of them were written with Raymond Moody. His newest book with Moody is Proof of Life After Life: 7 Reasons to Believe There is an Afterlife.
In this interview, hosted by Christopher Naughton, JD, Moody and Perry focus on the evidential value of the shared-death experience.

After 51 years of Registered Nursing, including ICU and Hospice, I find none of what has been discussed by these guests to be unusual or even excitingly remarkable. I have escorted a number of patients to another level of life. I have also interacted with some of their deceased relations as they were doing so. None of this has caused any feeling or thought of rarity in my being. I look forward to my next life.

@@BlueCollaredBonehead Yes! That is very true. A great number of individuals experience fear, worry or regret at the time that the breathing or vision or hearing begins to disappear. There is one example of that I can share with you if you would be interested. I put it in a PDF file on my Google Drive. drive.google.com/file/d/141wa5uGOecDp6fi30lU2i5NVhVc3KCUL/view?usp=sharing This was an experience in which I shared the transition with the patient for the sake of his comfort. By the way, I was just watching INTO THE CRAZY UFO WORLD !! I have also written some stories of my experiences regarding that subject (and how my Opthalmologist recognized it before I did.). Thanks for what you shared!!!

When I was a child, I had a shared death experience with my dad. I was the only one at home with him when he died. I think he found a way to comfort me, although he'd been dead for hours when I found him. First I heard his voice in my head: "Everything will be alright." Then I was lifted up in an embrace with him. I could sense an endless expanse behind him, and I knew that was where he was headed. The experience was like being wrapped in bliss in an endless, timeless landscape. What should have been (and was in many ways,) the worst moment of my life, I was given a precious, joyful gift.

My dad hug me several months after he died, when i was still in a great grief. It was moments before i woke up, but i just could smell the smell of his thin sweater he usually wore at home. It was 200% him no doubt. He hugged me and carried my in his arms like i was still a child. I woke up moments later in tears. Then I had sever other ‘encounters’ with him on certain occasions, mostly when I was severely troubled… It tells me they can feel our emotions and read or minds. I think they want to be remembered with gratitude. A church service in a memory of a deceased serves the same purpose - help the soul procede to a better place in that other world. This is also why some say that surviving relatived should not disturb the deceased with too much cries, with excessive sorrow, like trying to get that message across to the other world. It does not help them, rather causes them great pain… At least this is how traditinal culture of Eastern Europe (Russia) looks upon the case.

Those people are wrong....in 1610 Galileo saw that the earth revolves around the sun...the catholic church declared him a heretic and arrested him because it went against theological and physiological beliefs of the day...he died while still under house arrest forbidden to publish his theories....the church did not publicly acknowledge Galileo was correct for more than 350 years the scientific Community has proven that the materialism model is false even in Einstein's time they knew it but it still persists ... today we have Tom Cambell's big toe also based on him "seeing" the transition to the afterlife through controlled OOBEs with Bob Monroe...he is right consciousness is fundamental, not generated in the brain but affected by the brain...NDEs are culturally unique for example Japanese do not report the life review...and Buddhist do not meet Jesus....people see what they expect to see when their body dies

I was friends with a girl in the last year of school. She died in a car accident, but before I learnt about it, I “saw” her walking towards me, laying her head on my shaulder and crying. It was almost real and I knew, it was not my imagination, it came from the outside. I was so startled that I thought like “if this is real I want it to repeat”. And sure enough this moving image repated, although a bit shadyer, more transparent. I thought this has to be something important, then I switched to something else. Next day we learnt that a tragic car accident happened. This was late May, 1994, Moscow, Russia. Her family was visiting grand parents outside Moscow and on their way back a loaded track hit them in a front collision accident. Some week and a half before this happens she gave me a present - a small book of Lermontov’s Mtsyri poem, where she had inscribed to the effect: “this is in memory of our school days; years later you will read this and a rare tear will run down your face, but I will not be around to see it”.

This is so interesting. I had a lot of OBE's when I was a small child. I've always known this subject is real. My father had a brain haemorrhage, it was very uncertain if he would make it through an operation to stop the bleed. I was near the hospital waiting to visit him, I lay back on a river bank staring into a clear blue sky praying in my mind for him. Suddenly a perfectly sharp, circular and blackest black disc about the size of my index finger nail at arms length moved across the sky and off into the horizon. My Father made an almost full recovery.

Could've listened to the three of you discuss this for much longer. Hundreds of thousands of NDEs have introduced people to a force of unconditional love - the very thing religion qualifies and limits. Instead of a deity with favorites who damns - one who hasn't spoken for two thousand years - infinity presents more. (It's puzzling that some atheists think it involves religion.) How wild that advances in medical science have made these resuscitations possible. Here's to unity - perhaps the only hope of humanity.

Such a Sweet Mindset , Paul Perry and Raymond Moody . My daughter very young did get a sense of a parrallel world . Me at around 21 I had some shared death experiences. It is true that we don't think to ask others . Since my father's passing about 8 years ago I started investigating NDE's and all the phenomenons that go around . I found answers . Thanks you for this channel and the many others that help us find out answers and it makes it all so much clearer. It just makes sense now . Also I believe that we are no more today than before in percentage but today we do have platforms that led us to conclusions and we could simply share our experiences when in the past we just stayed home with them . One last thing , so true about the structure of theses stories that want to make us listen to them all the time . I am a subscriber of two channels on NDE s or similar phenomenons and I am always eager to listen to the new one . Best to All 🎉

I had a shared NDE on November of 2023 while I was performing CRP. I was calling out to God, breathing and doing chest compressions. A being came forward and spoke to me. Not with words, but telepathy. I cry every time I tell this story. I've told perhaps 12 close friends... and it seems to be split in half those who believe I had an encounter, and the other half, dismissive that perhaps I was psychotic. I actually got a better response from an atheist. Anway, I know what I know... and I will likely never mention what happened, what was said or how it happened ever again.

The most wonderful awesome treasured guests❣️ (yes I’m gushing. I get to I’m old) my first experience with Dr Moody’s very first book was right after my 15&1/2 year old brother had been run over by a 2 ton tow truck - lived in agony for 11 days and after passing the autopsy surgeon called my parents crying about how sorry he was to not have given their boy more pain medication… Someone gave us a copy of the “new” book … yes. It helped so very much Meanwhile my remaining comment is not that I want to be critical … but I couldn’t finish the interview on one shot becuz I really really wanted to hear both authors ….NOT THE HOST. I will get back to it. It’s wonderful to see and hear them … him .. Dr Moody. And I will get the book 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

When we got to the house about 5 minutes later, there was a note on the door that said to go to the hospital. When we got to the hospital we were informed that he had a massive heart attack and died instantly.

This is fascinating and comforting. I'd love to hear Moody and/or Perry's opinion of Sam Parnia's latest research into NDEs as well as the evidence that part of the brain becomes very active just before the moment of death. Some theorize that that is what is causing the NDEsI think a lot of credit for the acceptance of NDEs goes to Parnia and his Aware Studies. I would love it if Dr. Mishlove would interview him. Or better yet a roundtable including Moody and Perry.

@warron24 18 дней назад
I have some misgivings about NDEs. I think a lot of paranormalists are really committed to the idea that NDEs are totally inexplicable on physicalist terms. Unfortunately if any neurological correlates for NDEs are found, it will lead to a crisis of faith for some people. (Of course such a discovery couldn't prove that the visions and information conveyed in NDEs is meaningless, nor could it explain away the paranormal aspects of NDEs.) All that being said, this discovery of electrical activity in the brain isn't all that compelling. Sam Parnia has argued its probably related to the breakdown of certain structures in brain cells. But the electrical activity appears so brief and so disorganized its hard to believe it would cause an experience like an NDE. That's my opinion anyway.
@mmedeuxchevaux
@mmedeuxchevaux 17 дней назад
@@warron24 thanks for your response. i'm 50/50 when it comes to NDEs. The most compelling evidence for me are the veridical OBEs and the life review that doesn't occur in other cases of hypoxia or induced NDE-like experiences as far as I know. There are two compelling cases of blind people who could see during their OBE and NDE. But what I find unsettling is how unique everyone's NDEs are. There are common themes but everyone reports their own unique vision of the afterlife. It's as if, during the NDE, they were in their own paradise bubble, not really relating to anyone else except angels/Jesus, etc. I seldom if ever hear of reports of people who interacted with loved ones who passed over before them. There is no "communal" place that people share.
@warron24
@warron24 13 дней назад
@@mmedeuxchevaux FWIW I don't think people experiencing NDEs are actually journeying to the afterlife. I see them as more like messages from God. I think this is why there are differences in accounts, why some people have veridical perceptions and others don't. People see what they need to see. If you believe they're messages from God then they are highly suggestive of an afterlife, though not really proof of one. This is purely my opinion though; there's no way anyone could prove this.

And the exact time of my grandfather death, and when my grandparents had an accident..I have so many strange psychic experiences like communicating with animals and connecting with people thousands of kms away. In fact, I crossed once but I was told to come back by someone on the other side of a small river. I was in a green prairie with flowers and the sunlight was strong and there was a breeze that was so pleasant and i was in peace. This breeze was like what i felt during that night when I saw Jesus...it was a very luminous silhouette and with it I felt the same freshness and the feeling that i was being saved. Now, after many years and after reading John Mack, I think that I was the victim of abduction by NHI or..aliens.

One of the earliest civilizations in the middle east was Dilmun in Bahrain. It was called the Land of Eternity, and Gilgamesh Epic refers to it. The civilization focused on the afterlife and their belief in immortality in the afterlife was evident from the way they designed and protected their earthly materials for use in the afterlife. The soul does not end but rather continues to live.

Raymond Moody has done some fascinating work, but I have an issue with the modern NDE "movement". It has become a kind of therapeutic lifestyle phenomenon that leaves out part of the story, which is the negative NDE. The balance of positive and negative near death experiences suggest that our life choices are not without consequences, which is what religious texts insist. We can hope that our decisions are given the best possible spin, by the most generous spiritual advocates, yet not all experiences conform to this expectation. Hellish NDEs may lead to a different approach to life for those who are revived, but what of those who are not? Taken in the round, the demonic realm is as real as the place of light, and we should acknowledge NDEs that provide evidence of this.

What's interesting, apart from the fact that it's such a small minority of 'negative' NDEs, is that, within that subset, how those who have such an experience are those who believe in a God of vengeance - i.e. one capable of damning. It even happens with atheists who might've had subconscious notion of what I'll call Old Testament judgment. Yet in nearly all of those scary NDEs, either passed over loved ones or 'beings of light' appear to take the experiencer to a better place. The statistics are somewhat comforting.

Yes!! Getting a job in science and academic worlds is not to Work. Specialization has become Aisolation of realities from all the rest and the whole. Focusing with the words mind makes it imposible to percieve many important, fundamental realities of our particular lives. All is alive, in different forms, and a consciousness according to each one, as is needed according to the circumstances. Many aspects of that consciousness of "Self" are useless in other circumstances. Like many of our ways are useless when we are among other cultures: Other words, different forms of perception, acting, relating, among other objects, animals, plants. Sometimes, only a few common realities: Local Gravity, which is invlsible, with no apparent form, but determines all material forms, starting with our bodies, another local manifestation. 🤗

Your last sentence is, imo, the key to everything. Religion carves away at that, even insisting 'God' has favorites. Crazy to consider. Fwiw, I think of the Light as that Oneness simply because it was the strongest common element in the two NDEs I had: it was full, though - holding far more than the mere visual implication of the word. Language is so limited when it comes to what's 'over yonder'. ☺️

A shared near-death experience (S-NDE) is a type of near-death experience (NDE) in which two or more people experience similar or identical phenomena while close to death. S-NDEs are often reported by spouses, parents, and children who are present at the time of the other person's NDE. S-NDEs can include a wide range of experiences, such as seeing a bright light, feeling a sense of peace and love, or meeting deceased loved ones. Some people who have S-NDEs also report feeling like they are outside of their body and able to see themselves from above.@@Plethorality

@electrickspatula well, let's put the notion of god aside for a moment. What about consciousness? Scientific materialism has been wed to the notion that once the body dies, so does consciousness. But today more scientific research and analysis is coming to the conclusion that consciousness is not relegated to the body nor is there any proof that the brain creates consciousness. So why quibble about the notion of a god when more and more it appears that consciousness continues, regardless of the body? That my friend is no fairy tale. Geoff, after reading/watching thousands of NDE accounts over the decades, I'm still surprised to see how often Jesus 'pops up' even for some pretty unlikely candidates. (By that, I mean atheists and/or folks raised in other faiths.) A tinier, but telling, statistic involves the number of NDEs in which both Jesus and Archangel Michael appear. Odd to note that - in several accounts that almost overlap - Michael is physically larger than Jesus, but, in a few of them, Jesus is 'brighter'. I wish more details had been given. Fwiw, the force of love, aka God, I experienced in my own NDEs - at 4 and 19 - was immense, unconditional and spread equally among us humans sans the idea of 'favorites', i.e. no such thing damnation for one's faith or lack thereof. This should delight people, but a lot of them get rather agitated at the prospect of a deity who refuses to traffic in perdition. (The majority of 'scary' NDEs also tend to happen to those who see God as being 'wrath ready'. Because of the bigotry I associated with the religion of my childhood, when telling about my second NDE, I'd often leave out the part where Jesus appeared, not wanting anyone to perceive an agenda. Finally, although the last thing I wish for others is the nearly losing their life part of an NDE, it would be great if everyone could get a glimmer of that much PEACE - along with the absolute certainty that it awaits us all. Thanks for your kind forbearance in allowing me to express myself here. Paz y luz 💫

I am spiritual, so neither can I. I only hope that I get to WATCH (in REAL TIME ) Trump’s life review, as he experiences every drop of pain in the USA/World that he is responsible for and EXACTLY how it felt to each devastated person ! Vengeance is Gratifying! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

@@marniefriedman9564 Look, I get it. These are things I try to resist just because craving the suffering of anyone feels like sketchy territory. (And my own feelings about that particular person are dim, indeed.) If we only love the ones who are easy to care about, where's the lesson in it for us? Again, this is my own struggle, but I think the question is legit.
