Rabbits don't particularly prefer to swim, but swamp rabbits will swim in warm water of their own volition without feeling like they're in a precarious situation. Perhaps rabbits prefer "good old terra firma" (the ground). At least when they're on the ground, they know they're not in the air captured by an avian predator. Rabbits also are quicker on the ground than in the water, so it's easier for them to escape danger if they're on the ground (ideally near some trees or shrubs).
Come to think about, i never seen a rabbit swim, they will do it though. How do you think they spread themselfs throughout the continent ya know. Thats neat. First time i seen a rabbit swim.
When I was little my brother had ferrets and I saw them swim a few times in the pool. The rabbit looks like a ferret but the rabbit is so powerful with the kicks. But it has to be careful not to get water in the ears and nose and the rabbit breaths so freaking fast
Small, quick swim may be harmless in hot weather. As long fur body gets towel dry property. And no wet ears. Maybe use wet baby wipes on hot days on rabbits ( safe brand). Then finish with dry towel wipe. The reassuring soothing voice calms the panicky rabbits. They trust you to safe guard them.
There is a big difference between “bunnies are capable of paddling to safety when deliberately placed in an unsafe situation” and “bunnies love to swim.” I think you mean well, but you’re bordering on delusional when it comes to this issue. The animal you’re looking for is called an otter.
I saw a video of a pet otter, it was nice. I suppose I better change the title to bunnies love to swim to safety. I do not like to make fake or be deceptive.
To be honest that is just proof that they will try to get out of the pool your forced them in. I doubt they LOVE to swim but they might use water that they live next to for various reasons other than drinking.
Yes, I need better proof. I need to capture one jumping into the small pool on their own. I only saw 2 in this video jump in on their own. The first one and last one seemed to have fallen in the water unintentionally. I will think of some sort of setup for them. Probably will have to setup a Time lapse to capture the moment as this might take all day or several days to capture a bunny finally jumping in without me around.
@@jstewart627 Haha 🤣😆. Bunnies float . Unlike a dog that naturally plays in the water.. bunnies can't play in water. Whatever, it's entertaining to watch them problem solve.. they will get wet to get to the other side. The grass is Greener on the other side. 😂🤣😆 Too funny
@trustinsynchronicity I did not see before you advised me to. Even though rabbits don't swim unless it's life or death situation. That one video may be an exception, but that's not their common behavior.
I don't even understand why there is an open debate about bunnies liking to swim. There is plenty of academic documentation and veterinary advice that are all saying the same thing: rabbits (especially domestic ones) DON'T like to swim. Not only they don't like it, but their fur is so thick that they can even die from hypothermia if they get rained on a colder day, let alone be fully immersed in water. Yes they can swim, yes they might intentionally jump into water if they feel in danger, trapped or even curious, but once they get wet they start to panic and will do anything to get out ASAP.
I learned rabbits like water if they were born with it, if its already a adult and they werent raised with water, then they will go into shock if they were bathed in water
I mean,to make a 100% unbias demonstration of rabbit loving to swim, you should put a ramp to the pool next to where the rabbits live ,not putting them in the moddle of the pool. If they're already in the middle of the pool they don't have much of a choice...
Yesterday 2 of them got out of the lawnmower box, which had rain protection, and they were exploring the yard as it rained most of the day. They were all wet and they had a canopy over the lawnmower box. I also had lawn chairs out they could have gone under. One kept running from me until I stopped walking towards it, knelt down, and snapped my finders a few times. Then it ran up to me and let me pick her up.
@@trustinsynchronicityI was advised to look at that channel and I did. I am able to see through an act and politics. I see right through Fox News and other politics embedded into all kinds of movies
Dude you have them on a shaky float absolutely crowded, they didnt jump so much as fall in. Are you not registering the panic that they are experiencing? If I duct tape my rabbit to my motorcycle, i can say "proof rabbits love to be taped to motorbikes" doesn't mean they like it just cause i put them in a situation. Just saying.
I think a lot about it and process for 3-5 hours the 1 minute creation. 1 fell in. 2 decided to jump in and swim to me. The last one wanted to avoid the water completely and thought it could jump over the wall and freaked out. It panic swam to me. They are like children. I need to film and show their behaviors as teenagers (4-6 months) this will be tricky to do for a 1 minute video. Also, it is about to be 95 degrees so I need to re setup the tiny pool for them and sit out there all day with them.
I was surprised to see the last one panic swim after the refusal to swim. I will have to give them another chance to do this short swim to me. It is getting really warm now for this.
This is adorable Jonathan, these buns seem to enjoy swimming, even if it's not their preferred method of getting around. The snow baby buns family are a very sweet little group, and they seem to trust you since you've had them since birth. It's interesting to observe the difference in their personalities, btw who was their father?
I will setup a safe shallow small pool and will hope they will use it on their own. Snow was not around any males for a month. The babies were a surprise. I suspect they can stay pregnant for a long time. There are 2 possible dads. One of the Beast babies or Blue Bell. I was keeping one of the male Beast babies with her but I thought it was too young. I think at the time it was 4 or 5 months old.
@@jstewart627 I think before you gave away that one, there was ONE snow baby bun that wasn't the cream/tan color. I would have to look back at your old videos to recall the exact color of it, but I think it was gray-ish? So I'm thinking maybe Bluebell. The buns gestation period is 30 days, some drop a little before and some drop a bit later. The does can't stay pregnant for longer than about 30 days or so, so maybe that helps a bit? I think that one you gave away looked a bit like Bluebell.
I spent 2 hours reviewing and creating the voice for the 3 minute video looking for what they might be thinking. Most of the talk was made while I was filming though and I messup a lot. What I meant to say was go eat the black berry leaves. Fruits usually mess up a bunnies digestive system.
