Actual comment: Gunfire Reborn needs to be on here somewhere. The movement in it is simple yet addictive, the gunplay is psychotic, the way your characters ramp up is amazing to feel, and the variety of characters, builds, and difficulties is just fun. It was/is heralded as BL2 if it was an FPS Roguelike and it definitely leans into that, with the Crown Prince and Ao Bai (the first two characters) literally having Maya's Phase Lock (but as a projectile) and Salvador's Gunzerk respectively. Even then, the game diversifies itself when you get to Qing Yang, a melee focused bird who dives in and fucks bitches up with his wing hands. Or Lei Lou after him, who is literally the most fun sniper character I've played in any game while also having speed and power. The main draw of the game is how insane things can get as you gain more and more stuff through your runs, maxing out your skill trees outside of the game and going in knowing more about interactions between yourself and enemies. Such as elemental combos, where shocking and burning an enemy confuses them and makes them attack allies. Or the sheer gravitas that is the "final boss" of the Pole Monarch in the final, challenge level. The weapons are unique, the characters are fun and refreshing to play, and the game just has so much PROMISE. I bought the game years ago when it was in early access, right after Tao released. I then bought the game for my friend, then another, then another, until I bought the game FIVE DIFFERENT TIMES. It's come out of early access and is 20$ USD with arguably overpriced (and overpowered) DLC (7$ per 2 characters and 4 weapons). It's a game I can't not recommend to someone who likes FPS and roguelikes. It strikes such a balance of style and power that's almost intoxicating. And with the story mode still actively in development? It's a very top tier game. Joke comment: Pee pee poo poo cummy wummies uwu
Gunfire is pretty decent but I'm surprised people haven't recommended risk of rain 2. I think it's also better than gunfire as the roguelike thing is the powerups you get, in gunfire they just don't feel as strong and shooting an enemy for ten minutes to kill it seems to just happen way more often as you can't control the power ups you get as well, as in risk of rain you can do the teleporter earlier if you feel that the items are not worth going for and the enemies in the next stage are weaker as you spent less time. But idk I'm just kinda saying id way rather play risk of rain instead of gunfire most of the time, but if you're looking for a new roguelike experience it's good for a while.
Hey! Thank you for mentioning my game in a video! (Force Reboot, lol) It's an honour for me to be in a list with all of these games. I've heard your feedback and I know about problems that FR got. I'm slowly working on it and trying to get players to play like in a trailer.
I see that you have a combo system. Why not make the health drain a bit faster by default, but by increasing your combo meter you gain larger amounts of health, with a max multiplier overflowing your HP (to an extent) to reward people for playing aggressively and stylishly. Kind of how DOOM 2016 makes you fight aggressively if you want ammo and health back!
@@shapeshifting1704 literally crab champions is there lmao, sure it's more ability based but the gameplay is still pretty much just an fps game on most classes, like yeah there's a katana dude swinging their sword but most of the characters have projectiles.
If I had to guess it's most likely due to the fact that RoR2 is already a very established title, and from how this video was presented it seemed like he wanted to give more coverage to some lesser-known titles
I feel like the argument that force reboot is "short and repetitive with poorly implemented upgrades" can be applied to post void too. It makes perfect sense for post void to make it onto the list though, as it definitely has a lot of areas in which it beats force reboot, but going so brutal on force reboot just to jump into post void with such positivity afterward really tripped me up. Also really love these videos on little indie genres that don't get much attention, can't wait to try out robo quest whenever I can.
That's fair enough, there were other things in force Reboot that hold it back that I wasn't bothered to mention which add to the argument, but I can see where you're coming from. Personally, I think post void is a much more refined game with a smaller vision, therefore it's easier to make work while force Reboot is more complicated which requires a bit more polish. And thank you! I definitely recommend roboquest, I'm very keen for patch 10.0
@@placeadrien5566 if only there was sliding I’d rate it higher but it’s definitely great, been there since early access and I’m glad the recent patch made Hunter an overpowered dude again
I do recommend buying Force Reboot, not just to experiment with it and its modes and leaderboards, but also to support it, as the dev is listening well to feedback, and is still making updates to flesh out and improve the game more.
I’ve been loving roguelite shooters. I already own all the games in this video and so many more nice roguelites like Deadlink, Nightmare Reaper, Get to the Orange Door, Armored Head, and Imapler.
@@IcyXzavien if you want shooter then why would you bother with both roguelike and roguelite at all ? most of the shooter games that tried to take elements of roguelike and roguelite are garba anyways .
ok if you think they are garbage, then why are you on a video specifically discussing about them, and replying my comment about more fps roguelites that I like with “not dead cells ?” Are you trying to convince me and probably others to move on to other types of roguelites? Like what is your goal here?
If you're gonna do a next video about Roguelike FPS, you should ABSOLUTELY try BPM: Bullets Per Minutes. A rhythm game, fps and roguelike. And you can add CUSTOM MUSICS. It's unlimited fun and the soundtrack is amazing. Cool video btw !
RoboQuest was one of those games I stumbled upon when it was in its early days and I’m a sucker for rogue anything. The games was more barebones then and it had me hooked for hours. The movement, the pacing and twitch aiming really had me immersed. Finding the right combo of weapons really gave it more variety aside from the random generated rooms and enemies with even certain rooms that gave you taking out a mob before being able to move on. Now the game has a lot more to offer and it was cool that the update just refunded all my earlier upgrade buys. I like a game that can test my reaction and skill. This one did that with ease. It’s safe to say that I can highly recommend this
Get to the Orange Door is another roguelike fps that has titanfall like movement and is in development atm. Its so great to play and see how the game grows with time and i cant wait for how cool the final game is gonna be
Since he mentioned crab champions, i thought id give a heads up to another game that everyone should play: risk of rain 2. Its a third person shooter rogue-like and you can also get grossly overpowered in it like in crab champions and theres tons of different characters and even more replay value
I can tell you're a guy who likes fast melee and stealth with crit multipliers, but I gotta say, there's something so nice about just spewing out a tsunami of lead down range. Big Yellow with his shield and several sources of increased firerate and infinite ammo speaks to the Big Green Fungi of NEVER ENOUGH DAKKA in my heart, while Orange is a close-quarters berserker nigh-unkillable. Gotta love them. RoboQuest is a damn good game, and I can't wait for the finished product to come out.
@@CreemSmile clickbait. I tried anitube and gaming and iphone tutorials(this was like 8 years ago). But I was late on all those. This is what actually got my channel to nearly 300k. The editing part is fun tho lol
just gonna get this out there : one of my favorite rouglike fps games is bpm. its more of a rhythm game that a rouglike but because of its really well done balancing and painful difficulty , I appreciate it alot
Yeah I've seen gameplay and I actually own it but I've never opened it haha. Maybe I should give it a try since this is like the third suggestion I've gotten
Watching your part on Roboquest made me realize there is SO much more than I thought, holy hell. Then again, I never got past Farm, so yeaaah. Also, Risk of Rain 2 and Gunfire Reborn are good fps roguelites too. Risk of Rain is pure chaos, while Gunfire Reborn is also similar to Borderlands. EDIT: Immediately went for a Heroes run, and absolutely BLAZED through the whole game with what Imma call "The Immortal Pirate Build." Went all in on the Cutlass, and so everytime I activated my Overslash I became mega strong, and all the healing orbs I got made me even stronger. Seeing that "Heroes +1" unlock has made me absolutely excited, and I love this game to bits
Probably mentioned elsewhere in the comments after 6 months, but I just wanted to throw in my favorite FPS roguelite, Deadlink, and one that's still in early access but has been really fun, Battle Shapers. Both have a lot going for them imo.
If you are a fan of any of these games i highly recommend DeadLink! Game is a masterpiece featuring a combination of cyberpunk theme, Ultrakill fighting, and DOOM Eternal all in one
I recommend Mothergunship Pretty good, you start a mission with whatever components of a weapon you have in your out-of-mission inventory (things that make the gun bigger, things that shoot, things that give special effects like faster bullets or gravity) Then you get money from rooms of enemies and spend it on weapon components in special shop rooms
I'm surprised that nobody seems to have mentioned Returnal. It is not an fps but a third person one (makes life easier with the bullet hell mechanics), with great gameplay and atmosphere. It also includes roguelike mechanics, but integrated with a story. Biggest negative for me was that the start of the game can feel a bit slow.
hey im just asking, is the difficulty curve supposed to be that steep? my first ending i actually got with 0 deaths, but after that the difficulty started to become stupid
Not a genre, but I'd highly recommend The Void Rains Upon Her Heart, Hyperspace Dogfights, One Step From Eden, Monolith, and Space Gladiators. All are roguelikes that have found little to no attention as far as youtube content goes, but are some of my favorite games of all time. The Void Rains Upon Her Heart: Side-scrolling shmup boss rush with a truly absurd amount of content. It's still in early access and yet it has more things to unlock than the full package of every Binding of Isaac DLC, which is quite a feat. Not to mention that it's one of the few roguelikes to actually have some plot to dig into, though it's currently unfinished. Hyperspace Dogfights: 2D jet combat, comparable to LUFTRAUSERS, with yet another colossal hoard of content and unlocks to chase. I've put upwards of 500 hours into this game, and I'm still one achievement away from 100%, but I'm already looking forward to resetting my save and doing it all again just for the fun of it. Part of the reason I enjoy it so much is because, unlike a lot of roguelikes that try to follow in the footsteps of the big, well known, successful games such as Isaac or Gungeon, HsD puts a fairly large emphasis on player choice. The gameplay loop is fairly simple; each zone is comprised of about 5-7 waves, followed by a boss fight. In each wave, you'll be assigned an objective to complete, such as hunting down a squadron of elite enemies, doing recon by capturing a series of zones, or simply surviving for a minute or two. After you've completed your task for the wave, you have the option to jump into hyperspace, where you can spend the money you've gained from killing mobs on chests, identifiable by their color or price, as well as their shape, to be one of four tiers, containing either passives/actives or weapons, and sometimes giving a choice between 3 items. Once you're done shopping, it's on to the next wave, though any unopened chests will linger until you clear the zone. Between the generous supply of chests to open and a bit of game knowledge, you can actually exert a surprising amount of influence of what items you're seeing. On top of the well-designed loop and items, the game also just feels great. Combat is crunchy, with plenty of effects that can vary based on the weapons you're using and enough hitstop to occasionally remind you of ULTRAKILL (though it's configurable). Genuinely, my only complaints with the game is 1: The tutorial does not inform you that you can jump while flying through enemies to shake homing missile locks onto them, which meant that I was stuck using the default Flares active for the first 20 hours or so since I didn't know of any other way to deal with missiles. 2: A couple of the VERY lategame unlocks are somewhat annoying, namely Datacide Mastery and Hardgrade Mastery. Nobody likes being unable to see their items, and Hardgrade is, put simply, the hardest final boss in any roguelike I've ever played. I've beaten Roboquest on Heroes+6 several times, bested the Lich in Gungeon, and done plenty of Heat levels in Hades, but Hardgrade takes the cake for being both brutally hard and mind-numbingly long. On the other hand, it's also the only game I've ever played that caused me to ragequit, which was then immediately followed by booting it up again and playing for another several hours. 3: The music is... just not it. Slap on your own playlist and you're good to go. (we do a little bit of wall of text, oops. TL:DR game good, go play it) One Step From Eden: it's megaman battle network as a roguelike. I'll admit, I hadn't actually heard of MMBN before playing this, but OSFE slaps. All the fun of deckbuilding with all the hectic combat of my favorites in the genre. Plenty of ascension levels too, which is a nice touch. Monolith: Enter The Gungeon if it was good. Admittedly, unlike the other games on this list, Monolith doesn't really do much in the way of items. You've got one weapon slot, Cartridges that provide niche benefits, some Nuclear Throne-esque upgrades that, while helpful, don't really dramatically alter your run, and you can upgrade your health, ammo capacity, and damage. That's about the total of how much progression you can do in a run. On the other hand, Monolith does provide a tremendous quantity of top-of-the-line bullet hell gameplay, a handful of characters, and one of the best hard modes among roguelikes, as it changes the attack patterns of every single enemy in the game to be notably harder, along with an entirely new main route final boss. With Relics of the Past, its DLC that now comes included with the base game, there's quite a few new secrets tucked away, including three new final bosses, an endless ascension level system, and a few more opportunities to take advantage of during runs. It's pretty simple and maybe a bit too retro, but if you're looking for pure bullet hell I don't think there's a better roguelike available. Space Gladiators: Hollow Knight's combat paired with intricate stat-balancing and buildcrafting. Really, there's not much else to say about this one other than that it's made by the same developer as Brotato, though it plays drastically differently (actually being difficult, for one).
I very recently finished all the achievements in Roboquest and I can say that this game is absolutely phenomenal! I now feel obligated to try out the other games mentioned in the video
The intro funny enough is exactly how it started for me. Almost 6k hours in tf2, friend buys me BOI and i play it and didnt like it, but now ive been branching out into these movement roguelikes. just found roboquest the other week and ive enjoyed it myself and i definitely think i want to play crab champions. Theres also Deadlink, but ive not played that yet.
I was half expecting Risk of Rain 2 to be on here. I completely forgot this was a “FPS rogue like” video not just shooters. Really interesting video though, I genuinely wanted to try all of them
The fury i feel..... No mention of the absolute banger soundtracks of either roboquest or crab champions (done by Noisecream and Noisestorm respectively) and then salt on the wound by showing an orange door and not mentioning GTTOD....
Haha sorry to disappoint. If its any consolation, I had something in the script about it but I ended up cutting it out. Oh and the orange door bit, that was just so people would comment about it ;)
ULTRAKILL MENTIONED, S TIER VIDEO!!!! Also, One Step From Eden is a very fun roguelike that I've loved since its release that I think many people should check out!! Its sequel, Duelists of Eden (A PVP version of the original), is coming out soon!
when you started talking about post void the music instantly caught me I found it randomly months ago on youtube music and loved it no clue it was a game soundtrack gotta buy that right now. also great video well earned my sub and a few shares
You have to talk about Adios it is such an underrated game with a unique story and plenty of replayablity. It is like a slow burn show but in a game that can be completed in a couple of hours.
Another fps roguelite to consider is Dead Link. It plays like hades meets doom meets gungeon, with tons of replay and insane synergy of weapons and upgrades that only activate on an ability of your choice.
I totally recommend bullets per minute. A first person shooter rogue like based off of playing to the beat. Totally worth buying on sale, only at full price if you know you’ll love the gimmick.
The head of our main robot reminds me of that game where you play a roomba that murders burglars and cleans up spills; Pretty funny to think that little roomba sometime in the future decided to take some "Preemptive defensive action."
hey creem! Great video on introducing new games for people that like fps with something more to it! I have a game for you to try called Deep rock galactic, it is a team-based cooperative game with 4 main classes that all have their own use in missions and for your team. Not only that but once you get to an end game (promote dwarf once you are level 25) it'll get a lot more fun once you get things called "overclocks" which can change how your weapon works completely or can be additional good buffs to the weapon
A cool game to check out if you haven't is Nightmare Reaper. It's really fun and chaotic with a HEAVY Doom like atmosphere, and blasting monsters is very satisfying. Only real issue is how you upgrade the character, which is done through minigames, but I actually enjoyed playing it.
a free but very minimal rougelike shooter is OMFG: one million fatal guns. the enemies are pretty much all the same, but the movement is pretty fun, you play for highscore in an infinite amount of levels, and there's way more than a million different guns you can get.
Another one to add to the pile, and probably one you've already heard of, but Deadlink is an amazing FPS roguelike. Keepin' it short because, you know, almost 1000 comments already.
if you saw my other comment, i have also played a lot of crab champions and would also highly suggest it, theres like 20 guns and each one has some crazy builds. there also tons off skins to unlock so its addicting as hell.
>TF2 >Movement Shooter >Not a Class Based Shooter >Not a Team Based Shooter >Movement Oh boy, remember that time I dunked on the enemy with my sick parkour skills as the snoipah? Or that other time I outmaneuvered a Scout as a Heavy?
Dope video, but I can't help but recommend Get To The Orange Door, its a game being made by a very small indie team that is SUPER extensive, and has a very cool neon aesthetic. Its still in early access atm, but I mean you should DEF check it out. Ngl I was a little surprised that it wasn't included.
nuclear throne 3d. highly underrated because it's a mod that you have to activate with a command, and there's no vertical movement (if anything i'd call it a wolfenstein-like) but once you get it. it's nuclear throne 3d. and oh man, do i fucking love nuclear throne 3d.
Bullets per minutes is a really good fps rouge-like rhythm game and unsurprisingly the music goes hard while you blast enemies to the beat of the music finding items to increase your power and new guns to rock to the music with.
The only issue with roboquest is the difficulty options. Lowering the difficulty decreases the enemies aggression so they move around and attack less, and health pickups from dead enemies last longer. Because of those changes you play much less aggressively and makes moving up to normal or hard way more difficult because you’re so used to a more passive game. It should just be a flat damage and health increase.
Checkout the super niche genre of Kingsfields-likes (yes the prequel to the soulslike) with stuff like Lunacid, Devil Spire, dread delusion and any other you can find. Extremely underrated genre imo
Incredible job dude! What a banger. I am absolutely going to enjoy this. Next genre you check could be maybe building games? Scrap Mechanic-like Or Sandbox with complex crafting systems, RPG games too.
I remember downloading enter the gungeon when it came free with my playstation plus pass. I never really thought much of it, and it's difficulty really pushed me away. But a couple months after, I decided to try it again, and I was immediately addicted to the 'one more run' high. I highly recommend it, super fun, challenging, charming, and as someone who's a sucker for pixel art graphics, its a must play. I've 100%ed the game by now but it's still an absolute rush to play. If you haven't already covered it, I recommend you do!
I might be a little bit late for this but Risk of Rain 2 is another good FPS roguelike where you travel around an unknown planet as one of the 13 diferent survivors
There is a game you should check out actually two... DEVIL DAGGERS and it's absolutely insane follow-up called HYPER DEMON, but if I were you I'd first check out DEVIL DAGGERS and also check it's speedrunning community it's insane. I still remember when more and more times were being broken.
