What I need is an AI editor that will let me feed it an entire manuscript to proofread. I don't need it to generate content, only to help me clean up what I've already written. Anybody have suggestions?
@StevePeel
@StevePeel Год назад
I use ChatGPT for that. It will allow me 2500 words a time which is plenty. It gives me pause to then read it to make sure it hasn’t messed up anywhere.

Hiya, I just ran some of the editing of my manuscript by ChatGPT through an AI detector & it now says it's most probably 90% been done by AI? Help what can I do as I spent months writng the manuscript. Maybe a video on this sort of thing?
@StevePeel
@StevePeel Год назад
Hi, has Amazon failed your upload? More likely than not, no. From my experience, you can publish your books, regardless of how you created them or what help you received, whether that a robot or human or through research other people work and changing it to make your own. I have used ChatGPT and others for several projects and had no problems. No plagiarism flags or anything. The issue will be if you use the app to complete tests, witness statements, and important information, where your own words are required by law. And yes, I'll make a video of that soon when I return from my holidays in a few weeks. In the meantime, don't panic if it's for a book you publish on Amazon. Steve.

Stephen, what leads you to prefer employing AI for nonfiction as opposed to fiction? I would assume that fiction, being imaginative and fabricated, would be a more suitable domain. Nevertheless, I'm genuinely intrigued to understand your reasoning behind this choice.
@StevePeel
@StevePeel Год назад
Hi, it’s exactly for the reasons you mention “imaginative” “fabricated” and I can add, from the heart, human emotion. All the things I wouldn’t expect AI to fully comprehend, at this stage in its evolution. Steve.
@robwin0072
@robwin0072 Год назад
@@StevePeel Therefore, you're fine with AI handling proofreading for fiction, but you're hesitant about allowing AI to perform editing tasks for fiction, am I correct?
@StevePeel
@StevePeel Год назад
@robwin0072 No, I won’t let AI touch fiction, as I’ve explain. I would only use it for nonfiction, and even then I was use it sparingly.

Great video, can you tell me why the Chat GPT only uses some of the info I have copied & pasted into a message for it to edit? Thanks
@StevePeel
@StevePeel Год назад
Hi, when asking ChatGPT to edit, or rephrase, or any number of prompts, ChatGPT will return it the way it is programmed to make things look better and easier to read. Sometimes it might add extra wording or reduce it. If you don't want changes, have you tried to simply prompt it to spellcheck, or maybe even proofread and suggest changes? Steve

thank you! do you use the free version of CHatGPT or the pay for version? I heard that the paid version is more accurate
@StevePeel
@StevePeel 5 месяцев назад
Hi, I was using the free version for quite some time and found it great. I moved onto the paid version due to using the app almost daily and having the option to create images. And yes, it is slightly more accurate as it takes longer to respond and is even more lifelike, as in the wording comes back more in-depth and interesting.

I wonder if its acceptable to just write your chapter from beginning to end with your own words, edit with grammarly and then ask Chat GPT to fill the gaps of the chapter to make it longer. I mean its 100% your chapter but written better. I do wonder if its still considered using AI.
@StevePeel
@StevePeel 6 месяцев назад
I understand. If I wrote a chapter and asked AI to edit/proofread/spellcheck, I wouldn’t have to click the AI button. When it does those things, it adds or removed things and shuffles things about. But it is only classed as AI Assisted, so no need to hit the AI button. I do that all the time. But, if I were to write the first and last sentence of a chapter and ask AI to turn it into a 5000 word chapter, I would have to state I used AI, as the bulk of the text was not my own. If you have a 4500 word chapter, for example, and as AI to edit/proofread and it turns out a chapter that’s now 5000 words long, then that’s fine and you won’t have to state AI. I guess what I’m getting at is that if you ask AI to rewrite your chapter on a romantic style or professional style or whatever, and to also extend the chapter in some way, then that would be considered using AI. The thing is, it’s still a grey area with AI, and AI is being used to detect what % of your text is AI by Amazon. I hope I’ve not made things worse for you 😀🤙

It is quite possible, as none of us, not even the creators, seem to have any idea of how far these A.I. apps can go. That said, unless you're putting personal details into it such as passport information, address, phone number and so on, I don't see a problem asking it to proofread or rephrase anything.

I am in the process of writing, my childhood memories, and I’ve been dabbling with chat, GPT for proofreading, grammar, and some phrasing. I was told to careful with this process - due to it being seen as plagiarism within the system. I asked GPT just now, and this is what I got in reply: Certainly, I understand your concern. When using AI for proofreading and grammar, it's important to be aware that it may occasionally rephrase sentences or change words to improve readability. While the content and mood remain yours, there is a possibility that automated systems used by agencies could flag it as potential plagiarism due to similarities in phrasing or wording. This is not plagiarism in the traditional sense, as the ideas and concepts are still your own. However, it's a valid concern, and it's essential to review the AI-generated changes carefully to ensure they align with your intentions. In many cases, these systems can be a helpful tool, but manual review and editing are crucial to maintain the authenticity of your work. It's always a good idea to communicate with the agency or publisher about the use of AI in your writing process to clarify any potential concerns.
@StevePeel
@StevePeel 10 месяцев назад
@simonajanehallevansinstagr154 Hi, yes, it’s true that a certain sentence or phrase could possibly flag as plagiarism, but this is no different than you writing something yourself. You see, if I decide to write something off the top of my head, there is no saying that someone else hadn’t written the same wording off of the top of their head too. So it stands to reason that AI could also reproduce some wording that a person had written. This isn’t plagiarism in the true sense, it’s simply coincidence. Like if said “it’s a beautiful day today and it’s forecast more of this weather for the coming week.” Now, there’s every possibility that I’m not the only person to ever use that phrase. I would bet that it has been used thousands of times. This is what I mean by coincidence. Just as people can repeat phrases or wording, AI can do it too, and that’s all that it is. Steve
