Prop 22: CA Supreme Court hears case on law classifying app-based drivers as contractors 

Prop 22 does not offer you independence like Uber and Lyft want you to believe. Prop 22 classified you as an independent contractor. But here’s the problem. As an independent contractor working for this app based economy, you cannot raise your rates when gasoline spikes up 7 dollars For a gallon of gas. You cannot change your rate because you’re insurance went up. You cannot negotiate your rate for any reason. That’s not how an independent contractor should be working. The only independence prop 22 provides is that you could turn the app on and turn the app off as you please. That right there in itself people have a hard time understanding you are not an independent contractor.

Honestly, i dont want to be classified as an employee. All we want is 80%, and that would solve everything. They treat us like employees already. Could you imagine we were employees. Yes, less risk but no freedom at all.

Independent contractor sets price for ride. If it's not, it's not independent contractor. Simple.

The reality of being gig worker comes to realization when people decided that its not just a gig its a full time job so now they want the benefits of a normal full time job. I thought that the gig was suppose to be short term or part time work to do on the side, but I guess not.

If you want a W2 job go get one. Go apply at UPS, Walmart or any other company that has a full benefit package. There are a lot of drivers that want to remain independent contractors so we have the freedom of working when we want. That's why most people do these gig jobs. Plus, if prop 22 is overturned none of the gig companies are under any obligation to hire you as a driver.

We’re treated like employees. Think about it how does an independent contractor grow when you’re tied down by the gig economy. When’s the last time you had an increase in your pay over the course of your time driving. If you were truly an independent contractor you could demand that. Did we forget about inflation?

After COVID 19 an prop 22 the company lower the pay to 3 dollars for delivery using tips to cover everything. Basically you are working for you own tips sad

My Last and FINAL delivery for UBER 34 minutes $2.50 in expense $3.80 in pay = $2.60 per hour . this is EXPLOITATION of workers.

Gig Workers are Employees that set thier own schedules and that work when they want to. If they let them set the rates or get paid by the passenger then they pay uber for getting them the passenger then are contractors

There’s nothing in the constitution about Uber or Lyft so it’s not unconstitutional. If you don’t like it then don’t work for them that’s just a victim mentality

Go get a w2 job if you want w2 benefits. It’s really not that hard to understand, if you want the freedom that comes with being an independent contractor, you have to make other sacrifices. Otherwise, you’ll be assigned working hours and company vehicle, which you’ll in term have to pay for indirectly.

Well kiss your contractor job good bye if they are made employees. Uber and Lyft. Then these same drivers will be crying when they out of a job. It Will back using taxis and consumers in California will spend more money more than ever adding to higher inflation.

Illegal use of the voters rights act and self representative government and Congress legislature act. Employees. This is a illegal act of monopoly by yhe state and voters etc. Also this is also a illegal use of force and law and violation of court orders in over three million cases that proves this is also a act of violence and crime and a violation of the freedom of speech etc. There can be both companies employees and independent employees contracts and temporarily workers etc and also theres also a large amount of third party companies that also use the same system and charge higher costs like local monopoly taxi cabs etc. the state is built like a monopoly so. The states will probably have civil war internally over these issues even before undo burden front. Illegal inflation on the service or goods cannot be forced and then enforced. Its probably going to cause the shutdown of apple and Microsoft and Google and Amazon and Tesla and Nvidia and Facebook and Walmart etc to avoid civil war and world war and further crimes by the city county state and criminals.

The guy interviewing says prop 22 doesn’t provide healthcare. It literally gives you money for healthcare.

Drivers should also determine how much the driver charge per fare!

Phx drivers make around 10 hr , how are we independent contractors but they hide rider pay and take up to 70% when u ask the rider

prop 22 offers you the flexibility. If you want full time job look else where..prop 22 is to offer you flexibility.

I support prop22. Prop22 offers flexibility working hour for millions of drivers to have a supplemental income for California drivers. If driver wants benefit full time jobs. This job is not for you. Go find a different job.

This loser complaining about not getting overtime and other nonsense doesn't understand what being a self employed independent / gig work is all about.
