You're the best. I keep coming back to refresh my techniques before I start another.

The maker of the E-11 is Quest Design Canada. A great replica for the price. I used a steel rod inserted into my blaster. It gives it a bit of added weight that I was looking for in a display collectible. Wish I had thought of making a spring. It would have looked great wrapped around the rod. For my weathering technique, I used Sharpies. Whatever paint QDC uses on their blasters, it's great for Sharpie weathering. Once the Sharpie dries, it stays on very well. I used Silver sharpie on the main body, and bronze on the scope and counter to imitate the metal used to make those items on the original prop. Before the marker dries, I will rub my thumb across where I markered to create a fade.

Hi Curtis, the silver used is gloss. For painting blasters I usually use a satin black or gunmetal. I find flat black is too flat and doesn't show off the texture or details well in photos. Good luck!

This is a good video but I like my weathering with a story behind it. Like "how did the weathering happen?" The Bolt being dirty. Thats the fastest way to a jammed weapon if ever there was one. I wouldn't have gone there.

I find black boot polish looks great too to get a grimy finish

Nice stuff, but it's annoying that the "here are the tools" sections are at normal speed even though they're only showing jars and bottles and tubes and things, while the "here I'm applying the paint" sections are sped up to the point that it's impossible to actually see the details of what's being done, which is really the most important part of the process to someone who needs to do this kind of work and is looking for guidance on techniques.

This video is 4 years old. I have more recent videos that show different types of weathering. This one might be helpful? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-taaCeiO7MPc.html

It's about 1/8", but I think the real spring is slightly smaller.

Ahh, perfect! I found some 3/32" armature wire that should do the trick. Thanks.

How would you recommend tackling simulated oxidation on a blaster like this? Not so much weathering it but more of a general faded kind of look? Would you just use gun metal and silver again but in higher concentrations or do you have different techniques at your disposal?

You mention at the top that your preferred method is to start by painting the blaster gunmetal, rather than black. Do you have a tutorial showing this approach? Thanks!

The next time I paint a blaster, I will do it this way and film another tutorial. :)

is the imperial army blaster a repeating weapon, or an energy pulse weapon ? just curious as to why a spring would be needed to added ? lol, and i don't want to get lost in some star wars discussion forum !

Well it has a magazine that loads next to the bolt. If it has a bolt it has a cyclic nature to it. I don't believe this is anything more than a prop. Its not mechanical device and the film makers probably didn't want it to much more than "look" like a military weapon rather than work like a military weapon.

@@gusbisbal9803 it's because they used surplus Sterling SMG's as they didn't have a high budget to make their own :)
