Just for clarification. Another more widely believed theory is you were the bodies immune system fighting the cancer in the reporters body, hence why he kept looking worse and worse off as time went on. It's also heavily implied by some lines you kinda missed or just breezed past.

It’s also thought that the way you play the game is in fact a sort of recreating of the massacre, the way you interact in the game both shows a violent depiction of bloodshed as well as many other interpretations like chemotherapeutic treatment being as delicate as the sledgehammer and cancer twisting and morphing the body to be more and more dis functional.

The game has a meaning behind it, you are the immunity system and the props are cancer cells, disguising as regular cells. Also a lot of hints are in the game that point towards cancer too.

Smoking is one of the most important risk factors for pancreatic cancer which is why there were so many no smoking signs... and the last level is a representation of fighting off cancer at the point hes at, its an impossible task
