You make me laugh while I learn! I have to share with you my experiences as a white girl who grew up in a black neighborhood. I saw you on JenLuvsReviews but I was already a subscriber to your channel before that. Only commented once though. I never really comment on anyone's videos. Here goes...even though I am a very fair-skinned white girl (1/2 Irish and 1/2 Italian), I grew up as the only white family in an all-black neighborhood in Brooklyn. There was a .5 and .10 that was in my neighborhood - like a corner store type of thing - and they catered to the WOC who lived there. Growing up there, I did not realize that. But it is where I would spend hours look at and falling in love with make-up and where I would buy any and all make-up I had until I moved away when I was 22. I am now 50. I still use Pink Oil - the smell (although not one a really love) reminds me of home and a happy childhood. My mom is very dark-skinned Scilian. She bought all those colors and rocked them. Still does at nearly 80. My parents only left about 8 years ago because they were too old to keep a house anymore. When my dad died a few years after they left, everyone from my block came. It turned into a loud and fun reunion - it was great and he would have loved it! Anyway, as it turns out - I am still very drawn to the colors that were marketed to WOC in the 70's. Today, I feel shades for WOC have come a long way, but may still have a ways to go. When I go shopping for make-up with my friends now (mostly a range of WOC and some of my Italian family), they always laugh at me because I end up wanting the shades they feel are clearly more suited to their shade of skin than for mine. It's weird - I associate the kind of colors I "should" wear for my super white skin (I am basically see-through) as being "my first make-up" that a girl under 10 years old would carry in her white patent leather "bag". These lipsticks call to me! Every shade! I am gonna go buys some now! But I always secretly worry that people who don't know my background will assume I am guilty of cultural appropriating (some of the phrases I say and the way I speak could be seen as street or hood) when really it is just what I am drawn to and how I am because of how and where I grew up. I am genuine. I am what I am. Now I live in a diverse city and I worked my way up and am a business executive in a business I started with partners. I did this all even though I am from a poor family so I never went to college. My career was difficult at first because I am a street kid from Brooklyn and I was very rough and sounded like I don't even know what. With all this racial tension, I am always honored when an employee asks me why it is that I am the only executive that does not seem uncomfortable with the POC. When I tell them of my childhood - it all makes sense to them. I have always done all I can for equality, diversity, and inclusion. I spent 25 years in HR and worked on the execs behind the scenes to show them their microaggressions and unintentional biases while pushing for more training for ALL employees on inclusion and diversity and discrimination. I know I have done a lot but there is still so much to do and it breaks my heart. I hope you are well and safe and healthy - you are a shining star and I am so glad to watch you crush it!
“You know how I feel about Multichromes,” she whispered. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I have not been commenting. Many apologies for that, but I have been watching, and you are bright spot in my days, Alicia! Thank you! I’m going to have to pick up some Jior polishes. This was a gorgeous video. I can’t tell you how much I respect a lip swatch video, and satin finish is where it’s at! These are gorgeous lipsticks. I just decluttered lippies, but after the move, I’m gonna need some of these. I’m a sucker for brown based lips. Child of the 90s. 🤷🏻♀️
These lipsticks give me the feels to my core! I absolutely love these rich, warm, deep, dark shades. I have always loved brown shades but I feel like you just can't find those anymore. Well, my days of pining away are OVER!!! I have got to get these... it's really not even funny. It's all serious! Necessity, baby!!🤗🤗🤗🤗
that 90s aesthetic is so fetching on you! And boy can you ever rock a mauve :) These are lovely. The bullet curve looks like how bullets take on a shape after some amount of use, very contoured.
Hi Alicia! Another great video as always. Also, I want to support you to love what you love without apologies. I support you to prefer one shade to another, one brand to another. It's your face and your beauty and your confidence. What I enjoy about your videos is your understanding of undertone and colour and always love seeing comparison swatches. You help me be a smart shopper. Between you, KBJ, Angelica and Amy I have officially fallen for these lipsticks :-)
I pre-ordered half of the collection about a week ago lol! I can't wait until they get here!!! Ahhhh! I also want to add...that hair...the simple makeup...you look absolutely stunning, as always, but I love this "simple" look! 🖤💜
Tbh - I am over BOMB challenges. I want to see black-owned brands in regular rotation, not just when something happens or in February. When I first got my lipsticks I echoed your thoughts as well regarding the packaging but thought - this is what the Fenty lipsticks should have been. If Fenty could have offered this much product is more substantial packaging I would have purchased them ASAP. But they feel so cheap! I cannot stand holding them. I must say - focused looked so good on you! I know it's not your usual color but you must wear it more.
I hear you on that! And that’s why I’m holding off because I feel every one is doing them now, and then we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming. I wanted to do the BOMB challenge, more so to highlight brands that are not mainstream like Fenty. And continue using them throughout the year.
You really are the comparison queen 👑 Thank you for the extremely thorough review as always. I love all of these shades, they're so flattering and soft on you. I think I might end up splurging for Victress, Finesse, and Made It in particular. I'm not sure if you're looking for any other BOMB (or need any more complexion products! 😄) but if you are, I've heard wonderful things about Range Beauty's Foundation and Primer. I'm considering trying out their samples so would definitely love to see any thoughts you might have on them!
I love these colors on you. They look spectacular. But, believe it or not, even though my skin color generally falls in the "Light" range, similar to Michele Wang, I love those deep chocolatey colors. Always have. I would wear almost everything you purchased. Thank you for introducing me to this line. It is a pleasure to find a great beauty product made by a black owned company. We need to Actively support Women of Color, now more than ever. Diversity makes the world a better place. And a more beautiful one. Thanks for the video, Alicia. BLM!💚
Hola Alicia! I’m so happy that you enjoyed the lipsticks. I own the colors: Profits, Closer and Fighter. The colors are beautiful. However, the lipsticks are much darker in person, they come off super easy and they are patchy. People that love the “luxurious” lipstick tubes, would be highly disappointed with these. Your finger was covering the black printed, four digit number that’s stamped on the tube. If you’re looking for some great lipsticks, you must try Mel Thompson’s lip line collaboration that she has with Christian Audette. OMG, the line is on point Alicia (gorgeous magnetic tubes as well.) I bought the entire line, which consists of two lip liners and two lipsticks. The liners glide beautifully and the lipsticks are creamy. The liners are bulletproof and the lip colors last. It’s one of my best makeup investments, hands down💯. For reference, you and I are the same color/shade. Thanks for the video Alicia❤️👍.
Ohhhh mah goshhhhhh, they're all fantastic, but Focused looked downright magnificent on you. Honestly, even as someone with a light complexion, I'm intrigued by shades like Finesse because I find most common nudes a bit TOO milky-nude on my lips and I find it viscerally unappealing when I see myself. I actually love the look of a deeper nude. Thanks for introducing us to another wonderful brand!
They all look great on you 🤩 Over the past month and a half I've bought more Mented and Lip Bar, so I'll have to restrain myself on Propa 😫 But I'm definitely going to their website to have a look 👀👀👀
Love love all your videos you are an amazing Mackup artist with charming charismatic kind hearted personality your videos bring so much happiness love our community and family 🤗❤❤❤
I’ve been waiting for your video! I love Propa lipsticks😍. These are so creamy and comfortable and don’t taste or smell nasty (like the KKW lipsticks) and the price point are great. As a POC, these nudes are working great for me. You should check Ethnic District for the lipsticks you don’t have. They still had stock the last time I checked. 🤗
Propa Beauty -Driven is one I've been waiting for It reminds me of a shade from the now defunct Fashion Fair . A shade named Cinnamon. I miss Fashion Fair they were the first
YAY! I'm so glad you're doing this video! I'm very intrigued by Propa lipsticka, the colors are beautiful 😍 I'm on a no buy until November, but still, I'm real eye emoji at this!
These all look absolutely gorgeous on you! 😍 I lucked out, I got 2 in the initial release. I had been searching for a great orange lipstick and these are absolutely a dream. Like you said the formula is so freaking comfortable. Some day when I have way more money, I want to buy them all, all the colors are beautiful.
I really enjoy your videos. Your voice is so calming, and the way you talk about makeup is so pleasant. I really like to spend some time with you here. :)
@@aliciaarcher Now I have to go back and get Finesse. Was in my basket twice, but I was trying to be good. Sooo. for free shipping will need to get more then the one. These undertones are incredible. I only have light/med skin, but I am a green/yellow girl so I am loving the looks of these.
I was going to Order buy they were doing only pre order. At time said expected on July. I was like naaaww it’s May. The catch 22 with Indy brands. U want to support but they have to be able to provide product in a timely manor.
I made pre-order...but I cannot remember what I ordered! They look really beautiful and I am excited to get them! It took me some time to figure out what I wanted. It was great to not know what to get (turnabout is fair play!) and try to guess...the IG support team was awesome! Ok...went back to check I got plummy maybes and toasted nutty pumpkin ones. 😍
I wanted to order a couple but they all sold out and I'm not sure they ship to Canada. Also, I watched kelsee's and Jchronicals Vida's videos last week and they pronounced the brand name as "pra-pah" beauty, but you and Angelica Nyqvist pronounced it as "pro-pah" beauty...I'm a bit confused 😆
If you’re looking for black woman owned brands, I’ll have to turn you on to one of my friends who started a wonderful skincare line - AbsoluteJoi. Her retinol oil is lifechanging! In the meantime, are you now making me buy these too??? Just got my Carolina Herrera order yesterday. 😂
kinkysweat I’ll connect you with AbsoluteJoi on IG. She has now developed a full double cleansing routine, but started with her retinol oil for her daughters who were dealing with acne & scarring. Simple, clean & it works! I’ve been a satisfied customer for the last couple years. As for CH, I went in with Lisa Barnett (who you also probably know from your comments, lol, so we could save on shipping). I got the same powder shade, 2 lipsticks (almost coral and cheering pink) & ALL the tassels, cases, rings & beetles, lol.
Just wanted to say goodbye :3 I think you buying fox hair brushes was the last straw with me. I want to consume less, and support brands that are zero waste and/or are working hard towards being more eco friendly/responsible. The beauty community generates a lot of trash. I also want the people I watch to care enough to not buy fur brushes willy nilly. Im still waiting for someone to do an investigative expose on the fur industry related to brushes. I saw some movers and shakers getting interested in this topic and it made me happy. Ill do what I can, but for now, unsubbing.
It’s all good, Liz. If you want, you’re more than happy to share what you find on your investigation with me on email. If you care to do so when the time comes.
Disappointed to see the brand is mainly exclusive to women of color and in fact does not have the shades shown on any lighter skin women. As we all fight to be inclusive of all skin tones when it comes to makeup and we expect brands today to have all ranges this was disappointing. while I can appreciate them catering to women of color. I think they excluded an entire group of people and therefore will not be purchasing. I was planning on supporting until I saw that. Id love to support brands that support all women of every shade like Juvias place. That being said the shades look gorgeous on you! And I can appreciate the work they are doing but think they should make some changes to include everyone. No one ever likes to be left out.
You're correct, no one likes to be left out. Yet, most mainstream beauty brands have in the past and still today only show swatches on white or ethnic ambiguous women. Does that mean you are going to pass on supporting them as well? A quick search of RU-vid will show you several women in your skintone that have used these lipsticks. Also in my opinion, the brand isn't exclusive to women of color. It stated that the undertones were created with people of color in mind. That is all black women have ever wanted from brands. And if the Lancome's, Estee Lauder, and other brands featured in department stores and Sephora took us into account then there wouldn't be a need for a brand to point that out.
I hear what you’re saying, and if I may offer a different perspective. If you’re open to it! If we dissect the meaning of inclusivity, “it’s the intention or policy of including ppl who might be otherwise excluded or marginalized...”, then deeper skin tones have mostly been excluded as a whole in regards to nude shades. And I’m not speaking recently, but for a good majority of the beauty industry timeline. And a “Nude” for black ppl + poc, I feel, is not having to rely on a lip liner or other means to make the shade work for them. Does it make the shopping experience tougher for someone like you or me? Sure! I had to figure it out based on what I saw on the model’s lips, but I thought my guesses ended up well. In the overall beauty space, even with my skin tone, I have a much easier time finding nude shades than one who might be darker than me. Given that, when I see shades being presented on a skin tone doesn’t match me, I figure it because it’s not about me. There are plenty of brands that cater to those on the lighter part of the spectrum. Especially when it comes to nude lips shades. And for Propa to focus on deeper skin tones is being inclusive in an industry that still has some missing holes in regards to catering to those shades specifically.
kinkysweat I hear what your saying. I actually reached out to the brand and was impressed they responded. They said they just launched 7 weeks ago and hope to have additional imagery in the future for photos and such. I’m hoping they do include everyone in shade matching even if the target is for darker skin tones I believe we have all come to far together to start segregating and going backward again.
Jacqueline Carlton I agree with you however I’m not a main stream beauty brand just a consumer like you and would love imagery on the website to reflect some more than just dark skin tones. The company did respond to me I messaged them very nicely asking and they responded they were a young new brand of just 7 weeks and do plan on having additional imagery on their website in the future. I checked their Instagram and there is only 1 tagged photo of someone with lighter skin. As we progress we should expect this of all brands wether we are while blue or purple. I am pleased they plan on making adjustments and to me that shows a brand that maybe cares more for women as a whole verses of only 1 color. I’m all about small businesses and lifting people up but at first glance this felt wrong. I suppose it’s the same way you may have felt when shades were not made for darker skin tones. I think we need to expect more as a unified front there is no race we are all human.
