My (I think) great, great, great, great grandma who was born and raised in the middle east brought a fig tree from there when she came to America and that tree has been following my family for generations, when we move we cut off a branch and grow it, currently the fig tree that is growing right now has been in my backyard for almost 30 years and it is humongous and to be honest I don't know how it has survived cuz we do not take care of it at all, we just left it to do it's thing, and it has gone through an attack of an invasive vine in my yard, freezes, and droughts but always produces delicious fruit and I'm currently trying to grow the fig tree since we are most likely going to move again, so wish me luck on continuing this tradition❤

Omg 🥹🥹❤️ I have a pomegranate tree that came from my grandma’s- by the time I was a kid it was already a beast! It was so dense and stood incredibly tall! The fruit would weight the branches to the ground. I’m so happy to hear about those lucky trees- I wish the same for our little pomey ❤

I'm in Adelaide South Australia,I start my fig cuttings in 60%vermiculite 30,%core file 10%perlite in clear plastic cup's tall cup's are best i scratch the base of the cutting,dip in hormone powder and water in ,l place all cuttings in an old fish tank and cover the top with a sliding piece of perspex germination so far is 95% pot on in late spring when the roots are visible in the clear cup's enjoyed your video.

Yes, growing fig trees from cuttings are so easy. Living on the Gulf Coast of MS ,many homes have fig trees because they are just so tasty and so easy to start. When we plan to start another tree ,we will locate a lower branch in the spring an press it to the ground with a large rock or multiple bricks. By the time the tree has put on fruit, the branch will have sprouted roots. The branch is then cut and the section that has sprouted is transplanted to its new home. Our grandma tree has many figlets spread far and wide with family and friends. Thank you for demystifying the process. Easy for anyone to have a fig tree !!😊

Thank you for your video tutorial. Have you tried to start fig tree cuttings in just rain water? I have had 90% success with it and made a couple videos as well. Also, what is your favorite fig tree to get cuttings? For me it is the Brown Turkey Fig, but I am going to try Nero & Celeste next.

Very nice short presentation. While bringing in my Golden Riverside two protect from frost a small branch broke off. I took it to the house, cut the end, scrapped the bark, dipped in Root-tone and put in a plastic bag with growing medium. three weeks later, leaves are just starting. I think too much is made out of propagating figs, this young man takes that mystique out of that. Thank you, E

Hi Jag, I have learnt a lot from your videos. I like this video too and I have some questions to clarify with you. I am trying to grow the stem cutting in water now as I failed twice growing them in soil. 1) Is there a difference to put fig tree stem cutting in water or soil? 2) What is the reason to score the bark of the cutting? 3) How about watering? Do you water it before putting the plastic cover and water only after 7 days after your remove the plastic cover? Then how do you water after removing the plastic? I always have issues with watering. 4) How about sunlight? Do you put the cuttings in the sun, near the window with indirect sunlight or in shaded area? And for how long before you allow it to grow in the sun? Thanks so much!

I had literally just told myself yesterday that I needed to look up how to do cuttings from my fig tree! I’m going to have to check out your other info too - the growth you achieved in a year is impressive. Mine has done really well, but I think the record snowfall we got here in southwest Arkansas the end of winter last year took a toll on it. I did get a decent amount of figs this year, but not as much overall growth as I expected. Thank you for another great video. 🙂

Boy do I loooove figs and so does my family and neighbors. Do you think my stunted root bound fig tree will grow again? Please let me know if you have tips
@kqdwills
@kqdwills 7 месяцев назад
Root bounced trees grow very slow, because their root system don't spread out and can't take as much nutrients from the soil. For root bounced plants. before you plant them out or change to a bigger pot. put them in a large water bucket to remove the dirt then untangle the roots. Trim them a bit then plant them in a hole, or a bigger pot. if you plant them, make a pointed mount then spread the roots around on top of the dirt mount, then fill rich nutrient soil on the top to stabilize them. Plant the trees taller than the soil around to make the small hill so the drainage will improved and trees grow faster. If you plant them outside in a sunny location which will help the development of the fig tree later, the small trees will be shocked, especially when you removed the soil attached to the roots, so they cant take the water and nutrients as much for a while, so use something to build a small tent on the top or around to cover/ shade them from the direct sun for at least a week, or they will die. Or you can plant the whole dirt ball with root bounced only use a sharp knife to cut 4 vertical cuts on the roots around the dirt ball. This way the tree roots will grow out a bit and suffer less shocks, but they wont have the root bounced problem solved as much compare to the earlier method. Now your root bounced fig tree is already in the soil, so not much you can do. If you want them grow much faster ( some figs grow very fast, some ( root bounced fig trees) grow little in years, then wait until the fig tree go dormant in the fall, then dig it out and do the things that I said earlier before replant it, or plant them to a different/ better/ sunnier location.

I pruned my 1 year old figs a few months ago - all the cuttings were good size, so I just stuck them all (about 30cm each) halfway into a bucket filled with soil. From the 8, 5 of them survived and rooted without any watering or care from me - I have just planted them all out now that it's spring. The only problem I have is - now I have a lot, but all are of the same few varieties I already have
@kqdwills
@kqdwills 7 месяцев назад
You can sell them out, then buy the fig varieties that you don't have. The prices of figs can be varied. Fig plants with roots value much more than cuttings. Rare. name brand figs cost much more than unknown, or cheap varieties. I'm in CA and the 2 fig varieties that grow best in dried climate of CA is Black mission and Brown Turkey. However they are both cheap varieties with not much values, perhaps because they are everywhere. although BM is considered one of the sweetest ( if not the sweetest fig). BT is the cheapest, least valuable fig that I know of. ( haven't found any varieties that is cheaper than BT) in hundreds of fig varieties. A small fig plant with roots can be sell from $15 to $50/ each for the cheap varieties in CA. A fig cutting values about $1/ each to $30/ each for a rarer varieties ( like Black Madera). There are many in the middle like Violette de Bordeaux, Ron the Bordeaux, Olympian, Yellow long neck, Beers black, .... From the 8 of your cuttings, how many percent of them were tip cuts with the top foliages?
