In this video, I propagate my Lewisia Cotyledon, which is also known as Siskiyou lewisia, cliff maids, Howell's lewisia and Heckner's lewisia. In addition, I decided to prune my lewisia by cutting off its old stems and removing old leaves. I hope you enjoy the video ;)

I was told, no experience with them yet, that they are good rock garden plants - the crown does not like to be wet. They need good drainage - they need rocks around base to hold crown high above the moisture. I am going to pot them in a concrete container with the rocks for the patio.
@GardeningwithTill
@GardeningwithTill 5 месяцев назад
True, they need good drainage! A mix of rock and soil would be ideal.

A few weeks ago went all out when I saw them at one of my local garden centres and bought 9 of them in different colour t now am hoping that these will survive seeing your informative video looks very easy to care for them and this time will keep back from watering too often. Thank you again.

Thank you so much for sharing this procedure....my Lewisias are wonderful when they are in flower but after flowering they seem to ‘rise up’ and become very untidy.....are they in too much sun....they are on my alpine table which has sun most of the day. X x
@GardeningwithTill
@GardeningwithTill 4 года назад
Thank you for your comment :) The stem of my mother plant also rose quite a bit and I had to remove some of the older spent bottom leaves. I think that's totally normal, but the process may be accelerated by the full sun conditions on one of my balconies. They can tolerate quite a bit of sun, but too much harsh sunlight might do harm.

Hi Till, Thank You for your videos, they are very usefull and really helpfull. I want to ask , how often do you water lewisia, since I had two of them, one was overwatered when i bought her and I couldn`t save her.The other one is doing fine, but I`m confused when should I water her. Thank You in advance for your answer. :)
@GardeningwithTill
@GardeningwithTill 4 года назад
Hey Lence, I'm glad you enjoy the videos :) I really try to avoid watering my lewisia very often. I water the mother plant and the babies about once every week with just a little bit of water when it is warm. When it's colder outside, I only water it once every two weeks. I wait for the soil to be completely dry before I water the lewisias, because they tolerate dry soil much better than moist soil.

Hi, thanks for the video, I didn't understand much because I don't know English, but I can use the translator if you want to help me. my lewisia is rotten at the base. I cut it. Do I wait 1 day to plant it? which land do I use? Sand, peat or something else? Where do I place the cutting? sun or shade? How much water? Thank you
@GardeningwithTill
@GardeningwithTill 4 года назад
Hey, thanks for watching :) I would wait for a few days and then place the cutting in some well draining soil. Make sure that the soil is not too wet. Place it in part shade. Not too much direct sun ideally at the beginning. Don't water it immediately, but only later after some days, because it needs roots to absorb the water.

In my experience, it’s best to clip and plant the babies in (early) spring. By then a lot of babies will have formed. Autumn would also work though :)

I would suggest instead of buying cheap compost buy the stuff for alpines, a bit more expensive but well worth it, much better for drainage, and you can feed the plants instead. Good luck

Does anyone know how long eadh flower is supposed to bloom? Mine don't bloom long and then just look shrivelled up, I assumed that I maybe water them too much or not enough. I spray a bit of water onto the soil, not on the plant, every few days. But it's in the conservatory in a pot, in the full sun at the moment. Seems to like that, just not sure if I'm doing something wrong because it's never flowering long (but producing new shoots quite reliably!) many thanks!
