I planted a dawn redwood about 1970. It is about 93 feet high. I lived with in 1/2 mile of it ever since! Planted another one this spring. It grew 53 inches already
I’ve made some dawn cuttings. The first batch was before the new buds had sprouted for spring. They started shooting but got hit by fungus (they were in a chamber for humidity). The second batch was about midway through budding but after about two weeks their leaves suddenly dried. And dropped. I just made a new cut on. The top of one of them and and found they’re still ringed with green and haven’t rotted. Do you know if there’s any chance of them coming back?
so did the cuttings root? I did the same thing with a regular Coast redwood and it took 16 years to develop a leader because I used a cutting from a low side branch, even tried to force it to create a leader by staking it but never did it then I just left it alone for like 5 years and I noticed last year it started growing a leader, also I was about to give up on the cutting ever growing took over a year before I could plant it in soil, I just left it in a glass of water and kept refilling the water so It woudlnt dry out, but it always stayed green so I didnt throw it away.
