I've been watching for years. You've been inspiring this 70+ year old to try new things in my very loved gardens. You amaze me with your energy, great attitude and best of all common sense! I lost my husband eight months ago and after being together for 50+ years, I think I would have lost my grip, if I hadn't become even more obsessed with growing plants. This is my third year starting seed trays and I've become a flower seed-a-holic! I am really excited to try new plants that have a chance in my Sierras climate! Right now my cabin looks like a mad scientist lives here with seed trays, racks and grow lightsin the kitchen and my laundry's washer and dryer covered in plants and lights...and right now I am looking at feet of snow! I always talk about you to friends and famiy, and they know you as my guru! I thought it would be good for you to know your effect on this oldster retired schoolmarm and that I think you are one hell of a teacher!
You may not realize how valuable the organizing and clean-up videos are but if one is a gardener, crafter, DIYer, the need for lots of”stuff” is sometimes overwhelming. I really appreciate how you organize without overthinking the project. I also love how you re-home previously loved objects. Spring is the time we tend to want to clean up, purge, sort so these videos are timely. Thank you!
Good morning Laura! Shout out to you, Laura, for always being so generous with sharing Info on other channels that help you and for acknowledging Paul and Bethany as you do! Love the studio all tidy. What a great sense of calm. Hugs from N.C..❤️
The dried flowers would make an adorable set of fairy wings for Samantha. You could allow her to help by placing them on either clear contact paper or laminating sheets.
Thank you for the shoutout Laura! Those fig cuttings will root well, and it will be fun to see the roots of that extra cutting through the clear plastic.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how the figs turn out, as well as the rest of the seed starting production. Everything is looking so nice in your greenhouse and the studio. 💚💚💚
Love watching you organize! You do such a great job staying on top of things as busy as you are. Its exciting to see all of the thins you have growing.
I have been very successful at propagating my Brown Turkey fig by dipping the cuttings in rooting hormone powder and them placing the cuttings in a pot full of moisten sand. Yes , sand, not soil . Then I place a plastic bag on top for humidity and leave for a couple of weeks. Them I take the plastic bag off and after a month or so I wiggle the cutting to see if it feels firm. If so, them we have roots. So I transplant it to a pot with potting soil and let it thrive.
I have to say that I love the new 'sound', which is none at all😎, just the natural sounds of whatever is happening at the moment in the background. If that were me, I'd be humming or talking to my work or who knows ... 😸😹
I always laugh when you show your studio. It looks like my office. I’m a professional wedding photographer and hobbiest gardener, so I also have photography equipment mixed in among the plants. I’m glad to see the dehumidifier next to the camera equipment. 😉
My Aunt has one of the greenest thumbs I know, she does her rose cuttings like you did the fig, she plants them in the ground tho and puts quart mason jars over them to create the moisture dome. Can’t wait to see if they root! I had my epic fail, tried pre sprouting a few Ranunculus corms, after two weeks I checked them and they are completely rotten. I Give lol. Out of 18 corms last year, 4 grew and 1 bloomed. Just 1 single bloom before they died back. I’m Done😂
All the organization and spring cleanup has worn me out! Seriously, thank you for the motivational uplift! I so enjoy your presentation s, and although headed toward 80, I love to learn new things! I’m off to my aunt’s today for fig cuttings from our family’s “home place,” for starts for myself and the younger generations.
I'm currently sitting in my home office/craft/sewing room and I am groaning in jealousy!!!! I have great plans to clean this room. I have new vinyl waterproof flooring, painted a focal wall dark green, new blinds, ....you brought up so many wonderful ideas!!!!
Laura! You must get a pergola - every Beautiful Gardens video you mention how much you love a pergola. I recently watched the layout of the new brick patio - you sit there all the time - make some sort of pergola - you won't regret it! Love everything you do!
Organizing is hard for me ...I love being organized but it's so stressful for me to figure out the best way so it takes me forever. ..I love watching you just go for it and it work's out perfectly. It's a gift lol
I used a cut up cardboard on my metal shelf unit like yours. Then put my heat mats on top for seed starting. Working great. I also used a seed tray with the wicking mats on top of the heat mat. It kept the water warm and the seeds germinated quickly. Wondering if it was the warm water
David the Good is also a good channel for learning about plant propagation. I am enjoying his book "Free Plants for Everyone". Looking forward to seeing how these cuttings root in!
Wow that tidy up made ME feel better too 😊 Looks great and you’ll enjoy being in that tidy space even more now! Thanks for sharing and the motivation to do the same in my place. We have another snow fall coming today so it’s the perfect project for a snowy day. Looking forward to seeing those new plantings pop.
I love these reorganization projects. Thank you for sharing the process. There is something so inspiring about watching others organize. The studio looks great.
Yes, after moving from TX to Alaska I am glad I kept my some of my craft stuff. They are nice to have for when the grandkids come over. And of course the gardening materials too!!!!! They enjoy watching the seeds and plants grow and are learning so much along with me!
The butterfly pea grows wild where I live in Central Arkansas. Beautiful. I also have a Chicago fig that I grow in a pot because I have such a rocky shady yard. It gave me about 80 figs last year. Yum.
Must try some fig cuttings today. Thanks Laura for the inspiration. I love being organized. It sure doesn’t take long for things to pile up. Good job!😊
Laura, I saw on another gardeners channel (Dig,Plant,Water,Repeat) she went to a garden that I thought you may enjoy her review. It is FiLoLi gardens and the orchard is something I thought of you and your orchard. I hope you enjoy.
The oscillating fan on high speed filming looked to be dancing away to the beat of the music 🌞 Great job on that shelf Paul...curved corners and everything!
The video is full of important events! So many necessary things have again found their place in this room and will help you again! I hope the figs will soon show the first roots!
Love these tidy up videos...really gets you motivated! Looking forward to trying to propegate my Pagoda Dogwood tree, that is half dead. these videos are very helpful!
Gotta love the fan "dancing" to the beat during the clean-up portion. 🤗 And more importantly, though our messes are bigger in our various garden storage and prep areas, I feel like we are "in good company" if y'all have such mixed and need-attention areas!
Greetings, Laura, from Windermere Florida zone 9b 🇺🇸🌺🇺🇸 I have Chicago Cold Hardy Figs from Baker's Creek and planted last March. They are just now showing new leaves 🍃 Thanks for the info👍 Happy Gardening Everyone 👩🌾 👍 💓
I planted a little pot of Black Knowlian morning glories just to see how they'd do in my kitchen window. Woke up this morning to a bloom! The moonflower vines(ipomoea) I have sitting in my large north-facing window are about a foot tall and have buds on them, I think it has something to do with them being a bit pot-bound, as I thought it was strictly the warm weather which promoted blooms. Counting fifteen blooms so far! Can't wait to plant them in a warm, protected spot and watch them do their thing!
What a wonderful day to just clean, and have fun planting more things. I just received my yellow grow kit from GS and it is so, so pretty! The yellow makes you smile, and it will really make you smile when the plants get to popping up. This kit will last quite some time., and I plan on going back for more. Functional.
Hey Laura! I plant butterfly pea flowers every summer. I tried planting earlier and also during the summer, it will all come up at around the same time. Very late but it will show up. We use the flowers for a lot of Southeast Asian desserts. Just wanted to let you know to be patient with it. When it starts to grow, it takes off like crazy
I completely agree about clean spaces before the growing season. (Same for the Holidays) It makes my mind more at peace as the hectic of planting comes. Your space looks amazing and yeah for Aaron's new desk.
I used to tell daddy that the oxygen in the greenhouse just had to make you feel good! LOL but I totally understand being in that greenhouse and starting seeds etc. Dad had a nursery and his 'heat table' had hot water pipes that ran the distance and over head mist..I can so remember him rooting on that table and also starting veggies. Miss my daddy this time of the year the most!! THanks so much for sharing!
Hi, just a suggestion. When I store milk jugs with handles. I run a rope threw the handles and hang them out of the way until I need them. They don't seem to take up as much room
I have the same dehumidifier and I love it! We have install a hose in the back of ours and it drains automatically. If there is a way you can drill a hole on your wall and connect a short hose to it to make it drain outside it will make your life so much easier!
Laura, I think you and your mom would enjoy the gin Empress 1908!! It’s a beautiful gin made with butterfly pea flower and it’s not only delicious but SO beautiful!!! Would be a gorgeous addition to your cocktail hour in on Hartley!! 🍸 Cheers!
Hello Laura! Can you please give us some other examples of what seeds would benefit from starting in this yellow seed starting tray? I did a large order from Gardeners Supply. Including the Grow light system and other items you have loved 😍 ❤️ Thanks for the recommendations.
You know Laura, you can make rooting hormone from 1-2 yr. old willow twigs just soaked in water a few days. Using willow rooting hormone speeds up the rooting process. The antifungal properties of willow improve the success rate of your propagation projects.
Every year to keep my interest and to expand my gardening experience I pick one plant to focus on for the year. This year I am doing figs. In previous years I have had only a Celeste and a brown turkey fig tree. I am finding out there is a very huge diversity of fig varieties. Also very interesting how easily you can propagate them from the cuttings.
You rock girl. I am the same way about clutter. I feel so much better when things are organized. At Christmas my husband bought me a plastic green house. I have already got seeds germinated and growing. I hope it gets warm soon so I can plant them in the ground. I’m growing Lavender, hollyhocks Shasta Dailey, Canteberry bells, lupines, butterfly weed, Coleus and Columbine flowers. So excited can’t wait to put them in the ground.
So satisfying to see the studio clean-up! I shared this video with my sister (Alabama Zone 8a) who has a fig. She says that due to weird weather, it has pushed leaves already - and they are due for more cold temperatures. It might be a good idea to propagate a few pieces! Thanks again for your great videos!
Thanks so much for the tutorial on starting Butterfly Pea seeds...I haven't had success for 3 years trying to start these. I will try the heat mat this year!!
