Propagating POTHOS With FERTILIZER Experiment ( AMAZING RESULTS )

I did an experiment with pothos to compare normal water to water with fertilizer in it to see if it makes a difference when propagating pothos. It made a huge difference. The pothos had almost 4x the amount of growth than the regular method produced. Propagating Pothos with Maxsea is crazy.

With having fish as well, I have seen pothos grow like crazy with its roots only in the fish tank. Fish water is basically a dilute fertilizer, so maybe it makes sense. Either way, I love these side by side experiments!

I think it would be beneficial to delay adding nutrients by a week. Start in clean water, then add nutrients after 7-10 days. That would decrease the competition with algae.

A good way to prevent algae growth in the water is to cover the jar with aluminum foil after you start to see new root growth before your water starts to turn algae green.

I would definitely let the roots occur naturally in plain water, than by the 5-7th day add the fertilizer giving the roots a chance of growing naturally the fertilizer will add a boost, + delaying the process more will hopefully stunt the growth of the algae.

@lchaddy9013
@lchaddy9013 2 года назад
@@bobrobertsNotUrBob you’re probably using potassium nitrate, which is a common fertilizer. They are talking about potassium metal, which is pure potassium. Potassium (K) will displace one of the H’s in water. Water is made of 2 H’s and an O. Water is set up like H-OH. Adding K, like KH-OH will kick out the first H. So it’s now H2 (an H from H-oh and an H from K) and KOH separately. This reaction forms hydrogen gas (the H2) and it creates a lot of energy, and it causes an explosion.

Wow that was definitely extreme! I'm gonna have to get a hold of some of that. I wonder how it would be with added nutrients as it did seem to effect the original leaves a lot negatively, although it could be because it purposefully shut off the flow of nutrients to the original leaves to concentrate the growth to the roots and new growth. Definitely worth adding to my existing potted plants too.

That makes sense. All plants release hormones, most of which can interact with other species. Since pothos are notoriously fast rooters, they would be able to release that hormone into the water faster than other plant cuttings. Random thing: I remember a study done on some plant that releases a stress hormone to other plants nearby when it got munched on by beetles. They played the noise of the crunching to the plants are they still released to hormone! Plants are awesome.

Personally,the clones I have went directly into dirt,and it was premium potting mix with fertilizer added.and I have had complete success so far,with all clones surviving and producing roots.and thinking on it,only thing that I can say is the main reason this worked is those roots had like this video, nutrients to help produce roots,moisture and also the air I mentioned from the airated soil.i really think the right combination of those three things is key to cloneing plants,even if it's useing water as a medium.

Some people grow pothos is their fishtanks with fish. I think I might take a clipping and add to mine. My sweet potatoe vine did amazing in my fishtank too

I converted/repurposed my basement bathroom to a plant nursery. The temp is set at 75 F and lighting is four100 watt equivalent LEDs over the mirror. A dilute amount of Ortho fertiliser. My results are good. Following this video I will very likely do even better.

I was specifically looking for info on using a fertilizer to propagate because I've decided to try something new. Usually I will put cuttings just in water until I begin seeing roots (maybe about a cm) and then transfer it to well watered soil, trying to avoid the problems with acclimating water propagations. They still end up very droopy and shocked for a while...my new idea is to start the same. I'll use just water until I see roots (because I've noticed the START of roots goes much more quickly in water props) and then transfer to a prop box I am setting up with perlite. I wasn't sure if I should add fertilizer and after your video I think I'm at least going to try it! We will see....

I like using my fish tank water from all my aquariums to water my plants... And it makes me feel like I'm not wasting my water when I do my frequent water changes to my aquariums.

I would love to see something like this with other plants as well, not sure if they would all be taking it as well as pothos. I'm currently trying to root a rather old part of my M. Adansonii, as it was such a nice long vine, but the bottom was quite naked. But I'm still waiting for some roots, maybe they were just too old and try. Not sure whether I shouldtry some diluted fertilizer.

i almost have enough where i can start experimenting with them. Usually it takes me like a year to build up stock if that makes sense.

I've been trying to combat root rot with my monstera, so I've got them sitting divided in 2 opaque buckets and change the water every couple of days. At times I add a bit of peroxide and others, cinnamon powder. I was thinking of trying your Maxsea but not sure which concentration to choose. Any advice? I LOVE your shirt, BTW!

I use kelp and humic acid. You can buy gallons for like $20-$30 on amazon. It also works as a foliage spray at 1 tablespoon per gallon rate and then misted. If you feel up to it, try kelp/water or humic acid / water to compare? Good video. Thanks
