Great way you pointed out the screw locations.

Thank you! I have the gas version of this generator and changing the oil was extremely frustrating. I'm not due for a second oil change. That's to you, i will attach the drain hose to make all future oil changes quicker and less messy!

Quick Question. Do you add any extra oil? I ma thinking does oil go into that cavity of the hose thus reducing the amount of oil needed by the engine? So glad I found this video. Very helpful.
@jatoav8or
@jatoav8or 6 месяцев назад
That’s a good question but the volume is so minimal that the required amount of oil still brings the level up to the full mark. Just for the record, I’ve used this wesinghouse gen for about three seasons now and it’s performed perfectly. Really pleased for a budget generator.

Is cutting the connect to the generator absolutely necessary? I’m trying to find a shallow connection so I won’t have to cut but I’m having trouble finding the right combination. Thanks! Great video!

Hello, great video, great job! Question of the oil drain hose. What prevents the oil from coming out of the other end of the drain hose and or is there a cut off or way to turn off oil draining after new oil put in? Thanks again for great video.

As a fellow layman I had the exact question.

Thanks for your kind remarks. The “Drainzit” product I installed comes with a brass cap with an O’ring. That cap fits snug and secure. I also make sure the hose is oriented with the end up to ensure no oil leaking occurs. I hope I understood your question correctly?

@@jatoav8or thanks you for the response. I bought a couple last night and realized I missed the cap in your video.

Just got my 4500 12/18/2023. They must have got complaints or saw your vid of the cutout for the drain. The one I got has the cut out already.

Common sense would tell you just to get a longer propane hose... I am going to purchase this generator and that's what I am going to do....

We screw the Drainzit where the oil drain plug used to be right? Just got my Drainzit and am going to install but wanted to check if I should expect a mess when I'm installing it.

Yes, the oil will flow out quickly especially if it’s at room temperature or warmer. You can do it one of three ways. Carefully tip the generator & block/brace it at an angle to prevent the oil from escaping. Place a absorbent rag or padding underneath the outlet and do the exchange quickly to minimize any loss. Run the engine to warm & thin the oil and drain it one last time prior to installing the new hose and fresh crankcase oil. If I recall correctly I did the swap when I drained the break-in oil.

Nice video brother, thank you so much! I am having a problem getting my iGen4500DF to run on propane. It fires right up and runs great on gas, but when I try to switch over to propane, it runs really rough, and will not carry any load. In fact, the overload light comes right on when switching over to propane. I can't even get the thing to start on propane alone. The only way I have been able to make it run at all, is by starting it on gas, then switching to propane. I am wondering if you have any ideas where I might start to look for the problem? Thanks again for the great video... Ordering the drainzit right now because of this video!

I do have some ideas that may point you in the right direction but unfortunately my mother just passed away and I’m recuperating from providing 23/7 care for the past yer. When I get a moment I’ll post my thoughts if you haven’t already solved the isse

Also if its new don’t hesitate a second to return it as defective and get another one.

Once you install the drain hose, how do you get the oil out? With a hand pump or tilt the machine over?
@jatoav8or
@jatoav8or Год назад
The small notch I cut in the sill of the access door allows enough slope for the oil to drain. Obviously it works much better if the engine is at operating temperature prior to draining. Unless they changed the design the only alternative is to elevate the entire unit and attempt to drain it out the bottom. My first attempt draining out the bottom resulted in a mess of motor oil caught up in between engine and enclosure. I’ve had the generator going on two years, I used it extensively thru the winter months and it’s worked flawlessly for me. I hope you have the same good fortune.

Do you need thead sealer on the connections
@jatoav8or
@jatoav8or 3 месяца назад
I did use a gas approved sealant on the threaded connections. I’ve had the Westinghouse about 3 years. I have no complaints. I’ve used propane exclusively, the generator has never had gasoline in it.

@jatoav8or 3 месяца назад
@@MRPEVELER12 no, if I remember correctly there’s a O-ring or copper crush washer so no thread tape or compound was used but I do recall people warning not to over tighten the threaded connection.

I bought the hardware at a local farm supply store here in SW Washington but I’ve seen the exact same brand and other similar brands on Amazon, EBay,Home Depot and Ace. When I have a opportunities I’ll put a link in the comments. Not having to mess with a wrench makes setup much quicker but the drain tube for oil changes is a profound improvement too.
