Oh Boy! We're gonna 'clarify' the scale by muddying the water! Leave the damn thing alone and allow the LOCAL weather forecasters to give the important detail!
I agree with this actually. I also agree that more information is better , but changing such a simplistic system just leads to confusion. Leave it alone.
@@jeffreymarra231 More information: That's why I listen to LOCAL weather forecasters. They know the are and can interpret the finer details so that it is relevant to the LOCAL conditions. They can read the plethora of information that is available and they have the knowledge of what it means and the knowledge of the local area so can better predict what is probable. The 'CAT 1-5' is a 'heads up' so that you can get more info from the experts.
Yea.. this ain’t it. Sounds too confusing. No one needs a cat 6. If a cat 3, cat 5… no person on the ground can tell the difference of wind speed. The message needs to be more clear. Anything above a Cat 5… is a Cat 5, you need to leave. It comes down to people not respecting the weather.
Agree. If they add another category people would not take CAT 5 storms way to seriously because it's no longer at the highest category. So yeah it's best to stick only 5 categories.
There are many factors to consider. How fast or slow is it moving? How much rain will it bring? It's much more than wind speed. Hurricane Ian was "technically" a Cat 1 when it reached my house, but it slowed and swirled right over me for nearly 24 hours and dumped 30 inches of rain around the Daytona Beach area. Locals said it was the worst hurricane they experienced in 60 years, yet it was only called a Cat 1. I never believe an official weather forecast.
