hey @OP my family wants to open a luxury Airbnb at our finca outside the city. They are looking for expat communities in town to promote to as a weekend getaway. What/where would you recommend??
The bad reputation of Bogotá is thanks to the same Colombians of other regions, cause in terms of idiosyncrasies and climate, is different to the rest of the country, so the province people thinks that Bogotá is a place that don't represents Colombia. But the reality is that is the cultural, economic, gastronomical, and educational center of Colombia, gives work to a lot of foreigners and people for all parts of Colombia.
right, so instead of acknoledging or accepting the wrong stuff its easier, more psychologically conforting to just blame it on others. Way to go. I really felt the cons were really mild on this one
@@diegogalvan1110 I love the weather of Bogota. Is perfect all year round. You don't get that jungle hot humid weather of some other cities in Latin America.
As an expat for a very long set of decades, I really enjoyed this video, good points pros and cons. One thing, and having travelled all over the world, is that El Dorado airport is very user friendly. It is not too big, the airport staff are always ready to help and their help is kind and courteous. Smiles go on all the time. The taxi services in the city are efficient and plentiful. The weather can be very wet, tropical rainfall in a city 7000 ft above sea level! I love the climate here, never too hot, never too cold and anyway less than two hours down the mountain and it is sweltering for sun lovers, that is by car or bus. There are so many wonderful things about this country, too many to say on a comment. Yes, the traffic sucks. Nowhere is perfect. Viva Colombia and viva Bogota.
@Khair Hello Khair, yes, I have been to Medellin many times. Though it is a nice city, Medellin is the city my family and I like the least of all the top 10 Colombian cities (and we've been to all top 10 -and more). For us, the only nice thing about Medellin is the fact that it is in Colombia, other than that, we simply don't like it at all (not to mention the fact that it is more polluted than Bogota). There are simply too many weird expats in Medellin (not all) that still think one comes to Colombia to get high -and for the women. Contrary to what the locals in Medellin may boast, there are actually MANY Colombians and expats who don't like Medellin for the same reasons.
@Khair Part II or my reply: I wish I could say it differently, but I can't, It's a shame. And I may never go back to Medellin again -becasue I simply don't want to hear another foreign ignorant tourist ask me about those sick & repulsive Escobar tours; the money from which would be better directed to cultural endeavors and talent instead of that sick ancient history. Anyway, for me and for many others from around the world AND from Medellin -who prefer living in Bogota; Bogota is a much better city in which to live, as is also the beautiful and happy (& non-boastful) city of Cali. All my best to you and all :)
@Khair Part IIIof my preply": And yes, I feel Bogota is MUCH safer than Medellin and one person (single person) can adequately live for $1000 USD -per month in Estrato 3 or 4 neighborhoods. :)
@Khair I believe you to be a nice person and I am sure that you will find someone nice too. But I also think you meant to insert the word "NOT" in your following statement: "I’m interested in drugs and chasing women." ...Please clarify, thx.
@Khair Hahaha, no worries, that can happen to any of us. So, if you have an email address or something, I can privately write to you about helping you promote / launch your endeavor -if you so desire of course. I have started seven companies in Colombia (business & culture related) and I love to help whomever I can in this wonderful country.
I spent all of Covid here. I have seen the best and worst of the city. The bottom line is that it is a deeply beautiful, authentic, strong city with a slight paranoia issue -- but hey. 2020, amirite? The cost of living is freaking fantastic. People here have way better mental health than in the USA, and the culture is super warm.
Great pros and cons man! Did you ever live in Medellin? I just did my pros and cons of living in Medellin. Totally jealous of the food scene in Bogota! It was much harder in Medellin! 🥶
the weather is calm. rain is tolerable. the #1 downside is the transport, traffic is a nightmare. no metro and the transmilieno is overcrowded and already antiquiated. certain areas are very beautiful and others just stay away.
Another great video, Thanks for explaining the pro's and con's of Bogota. Bogota is an extremely big city much like New York City and I definitely would like to visit Bogota in the future. I personally like Medellin and the beautiful weather there. Keep up the great work on Colombia and educating people on the beauty of the country. When I came back from vacation in Medellin (Sept 2018) I showed videos to my friends and co-workers on the beauty of Colombia and the Colombian people, it is amazing the amount of misinformation and stenotypes the American media relays to the American public about Colombia. I cannot wait to return to Medellin in a few months for vacation. Jeff
Hey Jeff. Wow thanks a lot for your comment. Cool that you showed the video to your friends. We are starting to do more motivational videos so also your friends will start to see the beauty of Colombia😁🌴
Stay away from Bogota. I lived there for 14 months after I moved my business from the USA to Bogota and was not a good city to start up a business. Live happily in Medellin now.
@@htown148 False. Medellin is a city controlled by paramilitary groups on all the neighborhoods in the hills, stay away from Medellin. Some months ago an artist was murdered by a bullet that came from those paramilitary groups fighting.
Nice video. I lived in Bogota for five months. But I'm surprised you didn't mention the altitude. For me (at 20 years of age) it took a while to get used to.
thanks for the video. I'm seriously considering relocating to Colombia for retirement, Bogota just might be a good fit for me. How much is an apartment in Strata 4 in Bogota and I prefer to live with the locals more than ex-pats. Can I get an 1 or 2 bedroom apartment for about $375 - USD, that's 1,800,000 pesos.
Really like your videos. One suggestion is to give actual tempuratures. Cold means different things to people from Sweden or Morocco. At 2500 mtrs, I would expect it to get down to the low to mid 50s (based on Cuenca,EC at ~3000 mtrs.) Maybe upper 70s in the day. Is that close?
yeah i live in bogota and on sunny days it gets up to the early 70s and down to mid 40s, but most the time its cloudy so the temperature change is less noticable (cloudy days it gets up to mid to late 60s and down to late 40s or early 50s)
Where to live? Which areas of Bogota are the places to live? I think you mentioned Uber? Do they have a presence in Bogota? What would be a rough estimate of what you would need per month with your finances?
As far as I understand it is a beautiful city huge place there is no crime everybody says Miley and everybody seems to be very happy go and visit and you will be fascinated also Colombian women living in there are extremely pretty see you later
I often see people in videos in Bogota running around in clothes like in autumn is there any time of the year where you can only wear a t-shirt, and of course shoes, stuff and pants lol
The thing is that the weather in Bogotá is pretty much the same all year round. You can just wear a T-shirt during the day when the sun is out, but in the morning and at night it gets quite chilly.
Bucaramanga has the best of big cities in Colombia, great internet connection, it is a lot way safer than Medellín or Bogotá, the highest quality of life in any city of Colombia. Apartments, houses, rents, food, ect cheaper than Bogota or Medellin.
@@dinod-americaninthephilipp9238 I don't recommended you Buenaventura honestly, it's not as developed as other cities near the coast. The city has a lot of issues to get solved first like security. If you'd like to live near the beach, I recommend you Santa Marta, Magdalena, the cost of living is cheap and it has amazing beaches. You can go to Palomino. On the other had, you can live in Barranquilla, more developed and more opportunities. They don't have beaches next to the city but close in Puerto Colombia. Cartagena is quite expensive for locals. If you are looking a laid-back place, you can try Capurganá, It's a paradise. With one of the most beautiful beaches in Colombia, But you need a lot of savings, don't know about internet connection there though or work opportunities. Each place has its pros and cons. I'd rather choose Santa Marta.
Anyone that hasnt lived in Bogota doesnt fully understand just how awful the traffic is. It takes hours to get through the main highway and nobody follows any traffic laws. Theres usually three or four ambulances trying to squeeze in a 3 lane highway which makes it even more hectic. I attempted to start up my business in Bogota but the traffic made it impossible to expand due to other geographic parts of Bogota due to traffic concerns. Alot of youtubers give great content but dont understand what all it intakes for "business". Cant set up meetings cross towns in short time spans due to lack of transportation in the city. Really hampers the potential of the city due to the shitty zoning in the city. Also he doesn't mention the high amount of petty crime that occurs. Pick pocketing and petty theft is VERY VERY common to the point that the police just laugh at you when you attempt to make a complaint. I had someone in Zona T pull up on a bike and demanded my phone. Told the cops and their response was that I shouldn't have had my phone out and it was my fault and welcome to Bogota lol. In Medellin the crime is more organized so the criminals stay away in pablado/envigado versus the sparatic bullshit that occurs in Bogota. There's absolutely no reason to live in Bogota versus Medellin even for business sake.
Are you Colombian? I guess not Maybe your business was bad implemented, cause I know a lot of foreigners who stablished businesses in Bogotá, and the traffic isn't a total inconvenience. Plus, Bogotá are the economic center of Colombia and one of the most attractive places to invest in Latin America. The crime in the capital is low compared to cities like Cali, Medellin, Armenia, etc. So please, your bad experience dont represents how are city is. Some people prefers Bogotá, others Medellin, Cali, Cartagena, etc.
Thanks for telling another side of Bogota, and as Foreigner you might feel you wasted your time and money doing business in Bogotá. Total understandable for someone who knows time is really important and set up meetings without no issues is the best option anywhere. I highly recommend you doing business in Bucaramanga as well. We are the fifth most important city in terms of economy in Colombia. No traffic junks like you can see in Big cities. Just regular traffic at rush hours. And you can find a good commuting system. You can meet up with someone in less than 15 minutes in the closest areas at your work or about 30 minutes from Home. You can find pretty much everything you need such cafés, restaurants, Office buldings, ect by a 10 minutes walking. Also weather is similar to Medellín. The Best part is that the city is safer than Bogotá and Medellín. We also have more safe zones than Medellín. I encourage you to look for it at anytime. I'm sure doing business in Bucaramanga would be more interesting than Bogotá. Wish You the best Sam, take care!
@rusty Construction of the largest & fastest metro in Latam has already started in Bogota -and internet service depends on the carrier you choo$e. Mine (in Bogota) is faster and more reliable than the one I had in NYC. Bogota is the best wired caiptal in Latam and 5G is nearly implemented. I moved here 13 years ago from NYC & Paris and I've never been happier ...I truly wish you all the best here :)
In Medellin you get killed by the paramilitary armies fighting with each other. They control the city. On the other hand, Bogota has pick pocketing, and so does Medellin, but Medellin is worse because in that city there is a war going on daily on its neighborhoods.
Hi guys your channel is so helpful and informative..i am a sales professional now works in Dubai ( UAE ) is it any chance to find a job by learning spanish.
Good evening my husband and I we are moving in the middle of April to Bogota and we are looking for a two bedroom Apartment furnish rental and a safe neighborhood any info thank you
Bogota's temperature is very cold 6:00 AM = 6 ° C (COLD) 7:00 AM = 8 ° C (VERY COOL) 9:00 am = 13 ° C (cold) 10:00 AM = 16 ° C (cold) 12:00 noon = 18 ° C (Comfortable not cold or hot) 1 Pm = 17°C ( a little cool) 3 pm = 15 °C ( Cool) NIGHT LIFE 6 pm = 13 °C ( Cool) many women wear thin clothes and sexy shorts 9 pm = 11 °C (cool) many women wear bikini shorts ( its hot sexy lmao...) 11 PM = 9 °C ( very cool) 03 AM = 8 °C ( very cool) That you can get hypothermia .... if you are accustomed to temperatures of 24 degrees to 35 ° C bogota is not suitable for tourists coming from tropical beaches
I'm looking at the temperature for this week (end of Feb) in Bogota. The highs range from 21 to 24, which is perfect. The lows range from 9 to 11, which is chilly. Sounds a bit like San Francisco, California, in the summer and early fall. The hypothermia scare seems a bit much.
@@AscendedWarriors Sorry, but Bogota, Bucaramnaga or Cali are much better than Medellin (and less polluted). From my perspective and the majority of real Colombian connoisseurs, Bogota is where most exptas actually choose to live :) . Medellin just advertises itself better ...but Bogota is the ultimate; especially if you like culture and a truly sophistcated metropolis.
