I lived in California for decades...I rooted vociferously for the Bengals this year! I was upset for days. I'm a 49ers/Seahawks fan, but...along with Green Bay, and New England (I'm from Boston), I am adopting the Bengals!
Cincy is a secret, for now. We considered Raleigh - we got priced out. Cincy is where Raleigh was around 1999… by the time people know about it, it’ll be ridiculously expensive and those prices are rising. Relatively moderate weather by midwest standards, excellent school districts (in the expensive suburbs) and not a lot of traffic/overpopulation.
I’m sold. My husband and I went to the Bearcats vs. SMU football game last night, and I knew that this could be a great area to live in. We currently live in Fort Wayne, IN where cost of living is similar.
Cincy doesn’t have a subway but does have the largest unused underground tunnel that was dug for a subway. The construction was halted due to war/depression. There are a few closed stations that you can go exploring in.
@@jaspreetsingh8434 they are hard to get into and illegal but one of the entrances can be seen off the highway. Look around on reddit and u might be able to find exactly where to go
@@jaspreetsingh8434 there is a place on Vine St. 2 blocks south of liberty St that does tours. Most of the entrances are locked. There's one below Hopple st. It's on your right on i75. You would never guess that's what it is if you didn't know. It used to be unlocked.
How could you not mention the Arts? World class Symphony, Ballet, Opera, multiple theatres, music venues, wonderful museums of all kinds. We moved here from NYC and fell in love with the fabulous Art Scene.
I'm from Canada (Ontario - north, then south) have been here for 4 years. Pros: Love that it's so wooded (grew up Northern Ontario where towns are 60 miles apart with nothing but forest in between them), love the bike trails and hiking opportunities, love all of the breweries! Cons: Very hard to meet people here (most people are from here and have friends from their childhood, they even ask you what high school you went to instead of which college/university). For similar reasons, it's hard finding someone to date if you're single.
Agree. I think if you are married and want to start a family there are worse places you can do that Single folks looking for the vibrancy and social excitement will be dissapointed. Making friends is hard, too. Many people lived here all their lives as well as their friends from high school don't like going outside their boxes
We lived in Cincy for 7 years - ‘14-‘21 and want to return after being in AZ the past couple years. I think the points in the video summarize it very well. It is an amazing place to raise a family
Never been to Cincinnati but I'm planning on moving there next year. Currently in the Phoenix area but it's just a large hot parking lot that is now also expensive. Beautiful old buildings, nice city living, all four seasons and most importantly affordable. I can't wait
You will miss the sunshine, dry air, and mild temps in winter. Wife and I live well here, but the lack of open desert and mountains is crushing us with boredom. I do wish you all the best and think you'll like the change, but as I said above.
@@dieterh.9342 I'm actually from the Midwest originally. Az is a great place to vacation, but of the 7 states I've lived in across the country it's by far my least favorite. I miss my long Midwest summer days, the blistering storms that make you feel invincible, fall colors, first snowfalls, and most importantly the quality of the neighborhoods and community.
I’m from Venezuela, I came to Kentucky almost 5 years ago. I currently live in Kentucky and work in downtown Cincinnati. they are two fantastic states to live in! I think that for me what I like least about living here is the climate in winter because I come from a tropical country, however the states are prepared for each climate. your video is super educational and informative! keep it up!
Thank you! I appreciate the encouragement. I just met someone else from Venezuela yesterday. She said the same thing about the winters but is loving this summer weather.
Why does everyone think our Chilli is so unique? I always thought you had to have spaghetti underneath my chilli. And the Frischs tarter sauce thing that out of towner’s just can’t wait to eat and take back cases home with them amazes me!!
I am originally from North of Nashville(almost Rural Suburbs). I have lived in Cincinnati over 7 years and have been extremely happy here. I can’t get over how centrally located the city is to the United States. I am close yet far away from Relatives and that’s how I like it!
it maybe centrallly located based on geography, but not in terms of travel.. very few direct flights out of the local airport, which makes it a pain in the ass to travel anywhere, especially internationally
Strongly considering a job transfer to Cincinnati. Nashville has that "cool" factor going for it, but that's driven rent prices skyhigh. People look at me like I'm nuts when I say I might move to Cincinnati. That's okay though...keeps it a hidden gem.
Thank You. Overall a very accurate report. I'm from Cincy/NKY. I received my education here. When I became of age I moved out to Denver, CO, stayed for 35 Yrs, got out during the "Great Recession". When I came back; I recognized how very reasonable the cost of living is to Denver. Yes, people are friendly here. Surprised me just how welcome(d) I was upon my return from Denver. I'll send this report out to friends and family. Thanks.
Moving from Boulder, Co will give You a kind of Culture Shock. Cincinnati is considerably more Conservative than Colorado. Cincinnati cost of living can be Very reasonable compared to Boulder. Look on you tube to find City by City comparisons. I wish You well.
I live within the 275 loop but outside the 'city'. If you are someone who is afraid of city crime, you may consider doing the same. You're close enough to enjoy the city, but far enough outside to enjoy the safety of suburb life. It's also still within the range of affordable living while moving up to Mason, Lebanon or Monroe your cost of living rises dramatically.
This. You don't even need to live in Hyde Park to have a safe place to live for a decent price. Places like Miamitown or Colt have 1k square feet for under 1,000$.
I lived in Cincinnati until abt 16 years ago. Eden Park, Findlay Market, the weather, the people, a solid economy. I live in Atlanta now and in terms of quality of life, Cincinnati is better. Atlanta is just sprawling and growing too fast for the infrastructure to keep up.
I-71 just north of downtown - been under construction for the 3 years that I have lived here and I NEVER see construction workers working on it. They have to be the most incompetent construction company ever.
Part of the issue is State rules that prohibit working on the highway between certain hours. The crews get very limited windows to get things done. Not excusing it, just an FYI.
When driving into Cincy from the airport, I love playing Jurassic Park theme song as I approach downtown. Start at Kyle's Lane. The skyline is epic this way!
Have lived on the east side of Cincinnati area my entire life… the constant gray skies are the WORST… it affects my mood tremendously, so much so that I’m moving to Florida. We visit Florida often and after a few days of being back home my allergies are back in full effect as does my depression. Although There are lots of great things about Ohio in general, it comes down to weather for me. I realize that Florida has its own list of issues, but I love the sun!
I’m personally thinking of moving to Orlando from Cincy and yes the weather is great here aside from the crazy humidity and heat in the summer haha. But Florida has 3 seasons that are beautiful (fall, winter, spring) where Cincy only has 2 (fall, spring). There are no shortages of things to do in Orlando, but cost of living will reflect that for sure and also traffic can be bad
I'm 62 lived here all my life but on my sons account wish someone had the financial ability to build a visitor hotel in Cincinnati with great marketing skills to provide great service and cuisine and transportation of tours of our zoo', parks, museums, Architecture like Union Terminal, Music Hall and the Banks. And various tours available of new breweries while describing the history of so many old breweries and the history of naming us the Queen City. Also Coordinated River Boat Cruises, Rides to Casino's and Horse Races, Train Rides to the Golden Lamb in Lebanon. Also extended tours of Wright Patterson AFB and the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton.
Cincinnati love small business! I am a Potter and I make a living off my craft. My wife and I run a small LLC, and we rely on all the amazing outdoor craft markets to reach people in the tri-state. The Off Market in Oakley and Blue Ash is one off the best in Ohio.
I grew up in Cincinnati, I left in 2012 to move to Seattle where my brother was living, and he convinced me to move. Seattle is great but it's no Cincinnati. I was 41 when I moved so Cincinnati is a part of my genetic makeup. The one thing I always tell people, who after finding out I lived in Cincinnati (and once they stop singing the WKRP theme song) is what was the best part about it. I would say that it was a mid-sized city with big city amenities. It's great, because it's not too big, but we are not left behind when it comes to the latest and greatest things a big city usually has. We are like a big city that wasn't full of itself in a sense. The people are great, always will be. It's beautiful, the river is great and my trips to Newport and Convington were great as well. The Bengals did make it to the playoffs in the 2000's but the QB got sacked/injured early on. We had high hopes, but the fill-in QB wasn't as seasoned as he could have been. I am not a huge sports fan, but I do enjoy going to games, but I'd be lying if I were to say I knew all the names :) I did sort of at the time though. After I moved, they started getting better, and like you said they made the playoffs like five years in a row. Seattle is a huge sports town, in the same vein as Cincinnati. They are diehards and sometimes it's tough being a fan here as well. Though they did go to back-to-back Superbowls when I first moved here (or around then). I always say that when Seattle plays, I root for them UNLESS they are playing Cincy. However, if Cincy loses, then I am not as heartbroken as I would have been when I was living in Cincy. It's kind of like my team didn't win but my second team did, if that makes sense. So, it takes some of the sting out of things. You forgot to tell everyone that we put the chili on spaghetti. Everyone thinks I am mad until they taste it. Until Amazon Fresh started carrying Skyline Chili, I had to make do with Hormel. Not the same, but kind of made it less unbearable. Also, I remember in grade school, and we would all love it when we got chili spaghetti for lunch. Though it was a bit crazy hearing a bunch of fourth and fifth graders getting excited about a three way. lol. It's like "awesome, we're having a three way today!!" Oh, to be young and innocent again :) I do miss the main Public Library location. I used to do a lot of writing there and I did a lot of reading/researching things just for fun. I learned a lot about history and old Hollywood and old Comic strips that way. Cincinnati had so many options and so many activities you could do even if you were broke (which is how I grew up). I lived in Over-the-Rhine back in the 70s until about 94 then moved to College Hill and then off to Colerain Twnshp. So many great memories. And going to Sawyer Point and walking along the Serpentine Wall are memories I will always cheris.
I love Cincinnati. I miss Cincinnati. We lived there 4 years and our landlord sold the house we were renting. We made a big mistake and moved to Kansas city. Sux. Trying to get back. But can't find a house. Love oakley norwood area. Lovu Cincy!
We have lots of honest good people in Kentucky Indiana Ohio. One Christmas I went To Florence mall spent two hundred and forgot my bag in the bathroom went all the way home call them backup and someone turned it in unbelievable good honest hard working people.🍻🍻🍻
The restaurants! People who visit here from out of town can’t wait to eat at Frischs, Montg. Inn, Skyline, Aglamessies, etc.. Family in for visits want to go to Frischs before they even unpack!!
Perfect North Ski slopes not mentioned. I agree, a con is the gray overcast days we have. I've lived here over 25 years and it still bothers me. But overall it's a good video you put together and a decent place to live. I think it's really weird when someone asks you what school you went to and they mean high school...that is so weird
A con for me about the weather in Cincinnati, is you can literally never tell what the weather will be because it changes every minute and does some drastic things, lol
There's a reason so many people move to Cincinnati (regular joe's and retired major leaguers/pro athletes) that continue to make Cincinnati their home. Best city I ever lived in. Love the small town charm.
I live in Covington, but have lived on both sides of the river. I’ve moved away but somehow I always find myself back in the Cincinnati metro! I love our city, it’s a wonderful place to live!
My interest in Cincinnati I'm going through a divorce a very horrible divorce and I'm looking for a fresh start my sister lives in Cincinnati Ohio she's invited me to live with her so I'm strongly considering moving to Cincinnati
From LA too, sames. Their parks and downtown architecture, and ice cream are much better than LA. Other than that it lacks diversity in its people, food, basically everything. It's a growing city so I have hope for it.
100% LEGIT. Cincy, coming north on 75 is the greatest skyline in the US. No disputing it. Great city, people, culture. The indie music scene? ...just can't do goetta though.
Moved to Florence KY 2 months ago from Pennsylvania... the jury is still out on this place and I'm convinced NO ONE knows what real Italian Food around here!
Yeah ... that's not going to be a thing in Florence. I grew up there. Try Pompilio's in Newport, or if you can save up and splurge, Sotto downtown is amazing.
4 down sides. 1) Allergies 2) Tornados in spring. 3) Getting snowed in for days. 4) Serious sog alert days 2 up sides 1) Beautiful in Fall. 2) Mild summer temperatures. I lived in the Delhi area for a few years. 3rd spring I was headed back to Texas
Went to school at UC. Lived here 5 years. Pros: lots and lots of bars Cons: I've seen so many shootings I don't remember them all. And I'm not talking on the news
the public transportation is so old, the street car goes to no where, the weather is terrible, depressing on the winter and so hot in the summer, not really like it but l was there for more than 30 years. I have a business there and just going to visit some friends and family, but love where I am now.
Yes. I visited here and considered making it home, It was a minute of insanity. I can't afford it. I have to use a service dog and if I can't take her with me where I need to go, then it's not a place I can be. I'm an epileptic and she's been trained to assist me so I can live independent. I have multiple skills so I could work part time in different area of employment. I was also looking at going back to college. I was interested in a degree in either Law or English. But it's not affordable for anyone older middle age widow who is drawing disability.
My husband and I are contemplating moving to Cincinnati …. We have a pet domesticated mini goat (she really is quieter/behaved better than most dogs) and have read that there is no ordinance against having goats as backyard pets…. Do you know where I could find more information on that?
Commenting here on February 3rd, 2023 feels awesome knowing what the Bengals would begin doing in just a few short months. I get that y'all lost the AFC Championship this year, but come-on, the Bengals have been an objectively fun team to follow the last 2 seasons and have massive potential for the near future. And I'm not even a Bengals fan!
We have been shopping for a building lot and it seems like they sell at a real premium. Either the production builders buy up big tracts and throw up cheaply built houses, or the lot is an individual one where you have to spend more money to tear down the existing house before building.
Cincinnati is a cool town kind of a little secret there's a couple of them Buffalo Omaha Kansas City Minneapolis. They'll have a great vibe something is always going on. And unbelievable food scene and the people are super super nice which is completely underrated I've been to all those cities many many times and they're all fantastic and kind of a little secret
I spent a day in Cincinnati and loved the place. Part of it was it was April and still cold and crappy in Minnesota. We came down the hill into Cincinnati and it was green and warm! I did love the downtown and the people seemed so friendly. I also loved the old architecture downtown
Many great suburbs, townships, and villages on the 275 loop. So many things to do around and inside that loop, as well. Many great golf courses to play.
Baby if you’ve ever wondered Wondered whatever became of me. I’m living on the air in Cincinnati. Cincinnati WKRP Got kind of tired packing and unpacking Town to town up and down the dial Maybe you and me were never meant to be Just maybe think of me once in awhile I’m at WKRP in Cincinnati.
I was born & raised in Madisonville… Moved to California after high school graduation… Lived in San Diego for 28 years… I can tell you that San Diego does not have the Character that Cincinnati has… Cincinnati is a wonderful city…
If you plan on buying a home of any significant value, highly recommend NKY...real estate tax is substantially lower if you avoid Ft Thomas/Ft Mitchell Anyone that thinks Cincy has bad traffic has never been to another city literally anywhere
You forgot to mention the Western Southern Tennis Tournament if you're into it. All the players in the world that play in the US Open, French Open, Wimbledon, etc.
We really do mean which high school. It never occurred to me that may seem odd. Besides, if you start talking colleges around here then you're just setting yourself up for your 1000th NCAA Div 1 basketball debate.....and I use the word "debate" very loosely.. 😅
I was born and raised in New Jersey. I was homeless for 2 of the 5 years living in Cincinnati. Now, I have my daughter and my fiancée with me. I wonder if I could thrive in Cincinnati...
I watched this video 2 years ago before moving to Cincinnati and now that I've moved and lived here 2 years, I'll have to say overall, it's very nice, but there are a few things I DO NOT like. 1. Taxes are really high. 2. There is zero food diversity. Locals THINK there's a great selection of food, but it's basically all burgers, fries, and pizza. Case in point, nearlly all Thai restaurants also sell Sushi... enough said there. 3. People are generally really nice, but they are really unaware of life outside of Ohio and US. It's hard to have a conversation with someone unless you're talking about sports. All in all, the pros listed above are all true, and is a good place to live.
@@TeamSztanyo I've often heard Cincinnati as being very similar to St. Louis in terms of architecture and overall city feel. What is your take on this?
@@loaferfetish I haven't spent a ton of time in St. Louis, other than a few Cardinals games over the years, but from what I can tell, there's some truth to that. Both midwest river cities. We're just ... better? ;)
@Jeff Bruce they’re a little higher, but it’s worth it for the way better roads and not have to carry an AR and full battle load everywhere lol I’m retired so the taxes don’t bother me much.
The old part looks really nice and kind of European to me, but the newer buildings are like any other modern building in the US. I wish they would construct more classical architecture again. And they need to get rid of all these parking lots and create more green spaces. American cities have too many parking lots. I have never seen that in Europe. People should use more public transport instead.
