As part of my London universities series here on my channel, I thought we'd talk today about the pros and cons of studying in London. It's a pretty different student experience to many other UK cities and universities and trying to get your head round whether it's right for you can be tricky. Hopefully this video will give you the essential considerations so you can establish whether studying at a London universities is right for you!
I upload roughly once a week, normally on Sunday at 6pm. Be sure to give this video a thumbs up, subscribe and turn on that bell notification to hear so you don’t miss my uploads!

Jane Oh Jane I was young and innocent With euphoria at heart I touched down at Heathrow Only to be apart. It was summer in London Beautiful sunny day Gentle breeze mingling with fragrance Took my breath away. I board on a bus Full of fellow travellers We were going to Victoria The journey was tremendous. At Victoria junction I board down Heading towards a B& B I was new in the town. There she was standing Right in front of the motel With blue eyes and blond hair She was more than a fairy tale. With a smile and a nod She asked my name My heart started pounding Her beauty was to blame. With lots of courage And tremor in each vain I introduced myself Her name was Jane. We went to London Bridge And walked by the Thames I bought her flower bouquet And a purse made of gems. Jane took me to Trafalgar Square I fed the pigeons We took some photographs And giggling without reasons. Right after the sunset We hit the Leicester square She was a prolific dancer Set the stage on fire. Then she took leave With a promise to meet tomorrow Alas she never came back My heart was full of sorrow. I roamed about the city With a heart full of pain Sat on the corner of Hide park Waiting for Jane. Jane never came back Not even a word I had to leave London Like a wounded bird. Twenty years passed by I never flown to London again If I ever go to that city Should I find my lovely Jane.

Loved the video. One of the concerns i had was that since accomodation is so expensive people tend to move further from the centre which could lead to less social interaction since other people can be halfway across the city. Is this something to think about as I'm a very social person?
@HashimAziz1
@HashimAziz1 Год назад
Hi Imogen, thanks for a great video, one of the most comprehensive and well informed I've seen on the topic, really appreciate the cons in addition to the advantages. You mentioned something about sorting accommodation in July/August time compared to October/November time - how does that work? Where do you live between Sep-July if you haven't yet sorted your accomodation? Thank you!
@ImogenWhite
@ImogenWhite Год назад
Hi Hashim, thank you for your kind words. Most students go home for the summer so do not need accommodation in July/August in London. Many go travelling but some will stay in London to do internships. They either sub-let a room or stay with friends short term. International students tend to live in Halls with a 52 week contract rather than a 30 week contract which UK students might choose.

Hey Imogen. Thanks for your wonderful videos. I respect you so much and you have been so helpful as I am moving to London this fall too to study at LSE. I have a question about transport. How beneficial is the Student Oyster card? I heard that it gives discounts for certain kinds of travel plans, but does it provide a discount each time you use public transport? Like for each fare? Do you think it is worth it?
@ImogenWhite
@ImogenWhite 2 года назад
Oyster Cards cost £5 (refundable) and you can add your student rail card discount to it to get a third off travel. What this means is for a short journey in zones 1-2 the cost is: Cash: £5.50 Contactless card:£3 or Oyster card with student discount: £2.00 A longer journey Heathrow Airport to central London (1hr): Cash: £6 Contactless card:£4.80 or Oyster card with student discount: £3.20

This was a really helpful video, thanks so much! I have a lot of questions about shared accommodation though (like a whole videos worth of questions!!) Do you find it difficult to relax/wind down after a long day in shared accommodation? Is there another place where you can go if you just need some privacy? How is sharing a bathroom with a lot of people, like can you take your time in there and is there a rush to get ready in the mornings? It’s more of a general question but what’s the noise like in student accommodation, can you hear people in other rooms late at night, etc. Are there rules or restrictions in terms of having friends visit in your accommodation since you’re sharing with another person And I know it’s a more extreme scenario but what are your options if you don’t get along with the person you’re sharing accommodation with?
@ImogenWhite
@ImogenWhite 2 года назад
Thanks for the questions: Do you find it difficult to relax/wind down after a long day in shared accommodation? Our schedules were quite different so often the other sharers were out when I returned home. However, it was always lovely if someone was in as we could catch up on each other's day. Is there another place where you can go if you just need some privacy? There are lots of places around Halls if you need some space - computer room, laundry, garden, common rooms etc. Bathrooms are the only truly private places if you share. How is sharing a bathroom with a lot of people, like can you take your time in there and is there a rush to get ready in the mornings? Everyone is on different schedules, so I never had to wait or felt rushed in the bathrooms. It’s more of a general question but what’s the noise like in student accommodation, can you hear people in other rooms late at night, etc? Noise varies. Halls are noisier during Freshers when everyone is new and excited to meet each other, then it settles down. You can hear people in corridors and other rooms if they are playing loud music or shouting. Halls tend to have quiet hours so noise settles down after 11pm. Are there rules or restrictions in terms of having friends visit in your accommodation since you’re sharing with another person? Due to covid, no one who did not live in the hall was allowed to visit. In normal times, you and your room mates draw up an agreement about visitors, noise, etc at the start of term. And I know it’s a more extreme scenario but what are your options if you don’t get along with the person you’re sharing accommodation with? People do swap rooms, move out etc. My friend had a double room, but her roommate left uni so she had the room to herself for the rest of the year.

Getting admission in LSE(London school of economics)is very difficult. You must have a good score in gmat and the principal of your school must write a recommendation letter so you can get admission. Since youre a british citizen so it is easy i think so for you to get a job. For international students i think so it is difficult to get jobs ?
@ImogenWhite
@ImogenWhite 2 года назад
You are correct. To get a job in the UK, you must have a 'right to work' check and the correct documentation. I am not sure if this is part of an international student visa.
@abdulrehmanmemon1972
@abdulrehmanmemon1972 2 года назад
@@ImogenWhite Well i think so not that difficult for you ? You after completing your under graduation will definately get a job. The plus point for you is that you're and under graduate from LSE which is no doubt top ranked university on qs ratings as well as employer rating. I wish that I could have got admission in LSE. You're a hard worker and you will definately be successful in achieving your goals.

Hello Imogen, would you say that if your parents cannot comfortably support you, is studying at lse is worth it?
@ImogenWhite
@ImogenWhite 9 месяцев назад
There are lots of jobs in London, so it is possible to support yourself through uni. Also LSE offer shared rooms, so your hall fees can be as little as £120 a week for 30 weeks. I worked on the Reception in my hall of residence and earned £14 an hour. Other friends have worked in hospitality or tutored.

How to get to heaven❤️: We've all sinned and if God gave us justice we would end up in hell but we have a way to escape this punishment because of what Jesus did on the cross: 1- Believe that Jesus is God who died on the cross for our sins and rose again 2-Know that you are a sinner in need of a saviour and can't get to heaven by doing good or by any religious works 3- Turn from sin and obey God out of love for God and truly love everyone (reading the Bible will help a lot) (Read the Bible verses too 💗) 1- John 1:1, John 1:14, 2 Cor 5:18, 2 Cor 5:21, Acts 3:15, John 3:18 2-Luke 23:39-43, Eph 2:8, Rom 3:23 3-Matthew 25:32-40, 1 John 3:18-23, Galatians 5:6, 1 corinth 6:9-10, Matthew 25:14-30 Thanks so much for reading, God bless ❤️
