Another huge pro: no predators like alligators in the lakes. So many FREE and safe places to swim. Also, no venomous snakes or spiders in the Twin Cities.
As a born and raised central Floridian, this is an underrated point. The access to nature in the city is awesome. Also, no rich people mansions on the chain of lakes, which is all connected with a massive bike path.
I’m looking to move to the Twin Cities and I just got back from my first visit. It just exceeded my expectations by far. I live in Houston, so your summer makes me jealous. It’s also really easy to get around. Looking forward to my move soon!
I love to hear that!! We just recorded a podcast with somebody we helped relocate from Texas, and they echoed what you said! Our summers are incredible!
Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos!! We are making the move to Minnesota this next year and are super excited to learn all we can. This has been so great to watch. Looking forward to seeing more!!
Thank you!! Appreciate this so much! We’ve got a LOT to dive into and we keep making more! Make sure to check out to podcast as well to help you get some perspectives of other folks :) youtube.com/@WelcomeToTheTwinCities?si=_A89yAVu0HuWBJD0
Great video! I will never complain about how my 12 minute drive to downtown Minneapolis can sometimes take 18 after meeting someone in NY who has to take a car, train, ferry, and subway for a nearly 2 hour commute each way.
I'm about to move to the twin cities; its kind of unreal how my technically shorter NYC commute is on par in time with what it'd take me to travel a much longer distance btwn the areas in St Paul and Minneapolis Id need to go. Lol. Tbf, there's very little "friction" here to get the things done I need, though
Appreciate the vids. I’ll be moving out there from L.A. in a few years when I retire. I’ll probably do a short term rental initially while I do some home hunting. Contingent on the state of the housing market of course. Will be watching your updates until then.
Just found your channel 😊 THANK YOU for the fantastic videos and love the enthusiasm 🥰 Currently in the UK, definitely feels like another dimension… Hopefully coming back home to the US next year (‘25), just getting a huge head start researching where to settle after this chapter and the Twin Cities are at the top of our list 🥳 I’ll follow up with an email as we get closer but please keep doing your amazing videos while I crush through your current content 😊 Thank you again 🥰
Love the videos! Looking to move out of my parents place in the next year or two. Definitely enjoying watching your vids and looking forward to new uploads!
I thought you might mention the skyway systems, Mpls in particular. I think it's the longest in the world. You can walk for miles around downtown and never have to step outside. St Paul's skyway is no slouch either, although it's not nearly as impressive as Mpls. One could spend an entire day exploring the restaurants, shops, delis, etc. Also, the Mall of America, Minnehaha Falls, all the apple orchards and golf courses, the abundance of nature trails, and the miles upon miles of off street bike trails in St Paul. And all the summer festivals, outdoor concerts and special events, such as the rib and beer and chili festivals, uptown art festival, and plethora of live music venues. There's also a huge population of weekend people that spend weekends "up at the cabin" they own on one lake or another all the way up to the BWCA. You could make many hours of videos on popular activities here, especially with all the lakes. They're not limited to 3 seasons either. There's hunting, ice fishing, snowmobiling, tons of winter activities. Yes, it's cold, but more than half the winter days here are calm, sunny, and not unbearably cold. Personally, fall and winter are my favorite seasons here.
By the way, what band are/were you in? What genre? The 80's and 90's rock and metal scene here is lengendary... second to none. I have young people tell me what a cool era that was to experience. I lived in LA 89 to 92 and as fun as that was, it just didnt have the same energy as the Twin Cities scene. LA metal scene was stuck on pop/hair metal bands...image conscience cookie cutter GNR-type bands paying clubs to play a few songs, in hopes of being discovered. The music here was more creative and progressive...better. You're too young to have been there but I'm sure you've heard all about it. It was the best 2 decades to be a young adult in the Twin Cities music scene!
I used to live in the Twin Cities and watching this video put a smile on my face. I don’t like where I live presently. I miss Minnesota every day, I’m really hoping I can move back. My current city is an unsafe dump.
I think your channel is about to get flooded (pun intended) with fed up Houstonians like myself who are considering moving to Minnesota after Hurricane Beryl. I've visited Minneapolis a few times and I've been considering moving there for the past year. The hurricane pretty much sealed the deal. It's a great city with wonderful people! I'm a little worried about getting good Mexican food, but I can cook, lol. Also wondering how I'll be received at Target Field as a diehard Astros fan 🤣
i grew up in Minneapolis in the fifties went to Ramsey jr. High and Washburn High. the spring and fall are the best time of the year. Summers are hot and humid and winters are freezing cold. Also alot of mosquitoes!... otherwise i loved growing up here. I now live in San Francisco and everything is perfect!🙏💞🥰
I've lived in Mpls for over 20 years. I agree getting places like to the Lakes or grocery stores or other shopping ares is quick and easy for the most part. If there's construction which is all Summer long could be a problem.
@@dejohnnelacy254 Stores are close by in most Communities. For example in Milwaukee you need to travel long distances to get to a Target store but in Mpls Target's are everywhere.
All my fave places! I haven’t been on the St. Paul side during the fall yet. I’m excited to walk around Summit Hill and see pumpkins in front of the beautiful brick townhomes. 😂 Jesse killed it once again.
You: "Our taxes are quite high" Me in California: "It could be worse" Jokes aside. Loving the videos I have seen from you, super helpful. Would love it if you had a video or segment in videos regarding job market. I know it may not be your area of expertise as someone in real estate, but as a long time local you might have some insight into how things look there and what industries have been on the rise. I know you mentioned the economy and the presence of big businesses in the area, but I'm more referring to thriving industries (like the Healthcare industry in MN) or what fields you have seen growing. I've done my own research but always better to hear from locals than the internet.
I've been to the US twice and one of those trips was to Minnesota. It was january 2015 and it was cold as fuck even by local standards. Almost froze to death. And i'm from Russia! But what struck me most was that locals would never wine about how cold it was, how they would want to move somewhere south etc. If one lives in Minneapolis he enjoys his winters. That's nice, i like that attitude.
I don't think warm summers is a con but then again I CAN'T STAND winter. I'm looking to relocate from Fargo, ND to the cities at some point. Do you guys help with apartments too? Or just houses? I'm sure it's just houses but thought I'd ask.
Hahah that’s fair! Fargo winters are not fun, either! In Minnesota, Realtors don’t really have a role representing renters, so typically you would work directly with a landlord or property management company!
As someone who lives in NYC and is looking to move, I have to say it's a little worrying to see downtowns of other cities with no people walking around. I like that the city is clean, and easy to get around, but where are all the people?
Seems to me the supply supports the demand! According to LibertyPlugins.com there are 529 public charging stations in Minnesota, 147 of which are in Minneapolis and 123 of which are in Saint Paul!
Another talking point for you. Minnesota High School hockey IS bigger than Texas football. There’s a few metrics but the mainly the state tournament is a much bigger event
In the taxes section you gave away the story. Yep, 6th in income taxes... 26th overall in taxes? That tells you right there that while incomes taxes are higher than other states, property taxes and government fees are a lot lower. You've got people paying higher property taxes in a small town in Wisconsin than some almost bougie neighborhoods in the Twin Cities (slight exaggeration).
I’ve lived here for the last 25 years and I think we have an extra million people in that time. When I moved here it was harder to get to know Minnesotans and it seemed very cliquish but it has changed.
Incredible vibes in this one. Love MN. Pro tip to make the winters a little easier, find a winter activity. A lot of parks have outdoor ice rinks for hockey, a lot of trails are groomed for cross country skiing, there are also fantastic sledding hills just to name a few.
I lived in Minnesota for 5 years I'm glad I moved to San Diego California cuz Life is too short to freeze your ass during winter and sweat during summer.
Yes, we have very humid days, but oftentimes, it's hot and dry. This whole month of june has been in the eighties and nineties with very low humidity. Surprisingly pleasant!
Totally agree. I don't live there, but hope to someday. Some neighboring states have slightly lower temps in the summer, but the humidity in the Twin Cities is notably lower. There are of course days where this isn't the case, but I totally agree with you. Overall the humidity in the summer is decent.
You confirmed why the Twin Cities are on my radar. The "lack of friction" with a lot of amenities like useful transit, bike infrastructure, good healthcare, and decent schools are the reason the Minneapolis is on the list. Thanks for posting.
So my partner and I are looking to move up from central texas within 3-5 yearsor so, enough time for us to get on our feet, save up some money, learn how to adult, etc... But what are some things that we can do and steps we can take to prepare early for this?
I think you’re on the right track!! Keep putting money away for the move! Look into job opportunities here (and pursue similar work down there if possible), and keep researching and watching this channel!
The aerial footage looks incredible. I live here, BTW. Only 6 weeks of the coldest temps. I enjoy going to a different lake every day. My 3 favorite cities are Stillwater, White Bear Lake and Excelsior.
Born and raised in Mpls, but you fail to mention that Uptown is as dead as a doornail...most shops are closed and there's crime. I live along East Lake Street and there's tons of empty lots and few good convenient services. Northside is crime ridden too. I like living here but the bad stuff is bad.
