I have to monitor my blood sugars constantly so my numbers wont go too low. The problem is when I eat meals. My numbers soar. Does anyone take metformin wirh the Victoza?
If you are asking whether people are on both Metformin and Victoza, the answer is yes, there are many people that take both. If you are asking about the timing of taking Metformin and Victoza at the same time, Metformin should generally be taken around mealtime whereas Victoza can be taken at any time of the day. Some general strategies to help with blood sugar soaring at mealtime is to eat more fiber (helps decrease sugar absorption), eating less carbs, and going for a walk after mealtime. Always talk to your doctor about your concerns and what is most appropriate for your specific situation.
This medication probably won’t be an issue but you may want to double check with your doctor. This medication was studied in patients with low kidney function and seemed to be fine. There were some very rare reports of acute kidney injury, but this was usually in patients that were dehydrated or were taking other medications that can harm the kidneys.
That’s a good conversation to have with your doctor. There are a lot of variables that may impact how well it’s working. Your doctor might adjust the dose or change it to something else.
