I have worked & lived in India, Taiwan, California, all over Alberta, all over BC, travelled extensively in Asia, South Asia, Canada, the USA and Europe. I have lived in Nanaimo for ten years. There is NOTHING good about Nanaimo. It is the worst place I've ever lived, nay, the worst place I've ever even BEEN. FILTHY, excrement, needles, garbage, Fentanyl Zombies, crack and meth heads, homeless EVERYWHERE. The downtown is a hollowed out core. The RCMP do not do their job, rather they engage in racketeering and other nefarious crimes. Nanaimo is DANGEROUS. I'm a senior male, still strong and fit and I'm afraid to go outside. I used to walk 5 or 6 miles per day 5 or 6 days a week but I only go outside when I have to and only to walk to my truck. When my truck is broken down I carry pepper spray and a few other things. I know from experience it takes about half a 20 gram bottle of Dog Repellent pepper spray to get a Junkie to back off, a bit more to repel a meth head. Like I said I've travelled and engaged in adventure sports and Nanaimo is the most dangerous place I've ever been. The Hillbilly Savages drive like they are trying to kill each other and every pedestrian they see. I could go on with many of my own stories but I will close with - the elderly women in my building are terrified and everyone I meet wants to leave. DO NOT COME TO NANAIMO - IT IS NO BETTER THAN WHERE YOU ALREADY ARE unless you want to enter a real life horror movie.

I'm on Gabriola Island - only a 20 minute ferry ride from Nanaimo, but a completely different world. Nanaimo is handy for shopping, but I would never live there. I prefer the Comox Valley if I were to move back to Vancouver Island; it's cleaner, friendlier and less busy
@Dbodell8000
@Dbodell8000 Год назад
The Comox valley sucks 2 hr drive just to get to a major ferry 3 rate hospital the list goes on and on. Absolutely nothing to do.
@suddenlysolo2170
@suddenlysolo2170 Год назад
@@Dbodell8000 The Comox Valley is the recreation Capital of Canada - if you can't find something to do, you don't want to. There are 2 major ferries within 90 minutes, Departure Bay is one hour from Courtenay, not 2. The hospital is brand new, state of the art and ranked among the best on Vancouver Island. I bet you also complain about where you live now -
@Dbodell8000
@Dbodell8000 Год назад
@@suddenlysolo2170 There is great recreation all over the Island. The Comox valley has not cornered the market on that despite what they might like to call it. As far as Hospitals go yes both Comox and Campbell River have new Hospital buildings. That said unfortunately that alone does not make them great hospitals. Both hospitals lack the ability to provide a higher level of care available at the Island's 3 major Hospitals those being VGH, NRGH and Royal Jubilee. Lastly if I'm catching a ferry the last thing I would want is a drive before even getting to the terminal especially in the winter months. I'm not complaining just stating a fact that the Comox valley lacks things the the Island's two major cities have. The Island is beautiful no matter where you live on it I just prefer larger centre's.
@suddenlysolo2170
@suddenlysolo2170 Год назад
@@Dbodell8000 I prefer smaller communities - I currently live on a Gulf Island. I've lived in big cities before but never again. My commute to work consists of a leisurely 5 minute stroll from my yard through the rainforest. There is no litter, no traffic (or traffic lights) and life is just more relaxed. I don't get the attraction of a city....

@@6highyouss9 Well, before I found my place I stayed in an air b n b and found monthly rates. Air B n B is a great alternative to a hotel. Bring your hiking shoes/boots because if you are into seeing waterfalls and rainforests there are so many trails and parks but stick to the main paths if you are a beginner like me. Always bring someone with you. Everyone is super friendly here for the most part so if you have questions don’t hesitate to ask a local. Just like the parks with waterfalls, there are many seaside parks as well with amazing views of the ocean. Enjoy your visit bro.
