I prefer being with the Union when I'm at a job because it helps you earn more wages and protects your wages. And also helps people more with disabilities on the job. People on unions tend to make paid higher than people who are not on umion
To Sirrippington: Many union companies have to shut down or downsize. They string beautiful words of peace and understanding and come to an agreement to keep the company alive with the union taking the "better option" that some "created" pariahs and "ugly ducklings" be ditched.
I went from a non union plumber making $13 an hour. As a Union plumber more than 3x that as well as a person with better benefits. I will take Union any day over non Union.
if you subtract the union dues from your take home pay, did it come out to the same as $13/hr? that’s my main concern, i’m asking as somehow who is in the process of getting back on my feet so every penny counts, but i do see the benefit in the long run
@@Indacouch-li8jpi was making 25hr non union no benefits..went to carpenters union here in california 62hr working 6 days a week bringing home almost 3000 with full benefits....once a retire i will have 2 checks social security and union pension as well...
And I was driving a school bus at a non-union private company making $21/hr, and got asked to interview at a unionized district a few towns over. They made salary, the yearly was $2000 more, but the bi-monthly was about $200 less. On top of that, their benefits package + dues would have cost me about 80% of my entire paycheck, meaning I would be working pretty much entirely for the benefits. I stayed at the non-union private company.
Same bro. Just got fired today over too many write ups. Foreman kept lying on me and writing me up for ridiculous stuff. I filed grievances on over half of my write ups and the manager who fired me told me the grievances didn’t matter and I was being terminated immediately. Whole time my chief union Steward just sat in the corner of the room and didn’t say a word.
depends what write ups for? someone got fired recently at my job because his attendence he blamed his kids for it. union cant defend that or personal issues. they wont defend you if you do a half ass job either
@@markmiller7529 all of the write ups I got were goofy as shit and my foreman even admitted to me one time that it was either me or him that had to be written up but he would purposely word the write ups to get out of them easily. I was filing grievances as soon as I got the write up but the union would do anything and they just kept piling up. I did extremely good work but the way the company was set up if anything went wrong management could just drop the blame on the person below them. Most of the time my Forman was the one to get the blame and in turn he’d drop it onto me
@@gabriellagodsent9012 They deduct it from your paycheck, and I was paying $75.00 every pay check. Now keep in mind, if you don’t pay your dues for what ever the reason is, your boss will be forced to remove you from the schedule until you pay your dues… that’s what my expense was. Lol as a matter fact because I quit, according to that Union I still owe them money lol they aren’t gonna get it.
@@8kigana Unions are socialist lobbying groups that do not serve the interests of workers. If they did they would not vote CCP demoRAT and support illegal immigration.
Unions are good because the unionized employers can’t terminate you at-will. So you’d have to be written up or talked to several times before they can let you go.
We had a lady in my office who knew how to walk the line between getting fired and staying on. We all hated her and she was bad for the office, couldn't fire her though. I'm currently being pressured to join one but I'm paid terribly low now, on top of dues will be too much.
The worst thing being union is when you have a boss that is a fellow brother but only sides with corporate and collects a collective bargaining wage and forgets the brotherhood 😢
Man, I just went from the most toxic workplace I have probably ever been in, and I've been through several, to now morale is actually existent and the union is forming in place and this local government division. Absolutely through the roof... altho yes, I still have no idea what this job will look like in 3-5+ years, so I'm Definitely keeping my options open... but I had a gut feeling that sticking through the pain and just seeing where it goes might pay off... Edit: Ok this wasn't literally at least outwardly my most toxic job, had one poor paying manual labor job where basically Everyone was losing it &/or indifferent, to each their own degree, just by being a part of it ... But this one, for sure had the most "damed if you do/ damed if you don't/ we are gonna get you" screwed up lack of direction fear-inducing management xD
Definitely don't save u from getting u fired, 10 years as a Foreman Carpenter and was just fired for a reason what I had no choice doing !!! My superintendent told me to do something that is illegal and I went above there head and to.d someone what I was told to do to save my job and the company reputation. UT my superintendent lied and ended up having me fired over it . Nothing I could do or say to save my job & honestly wasn't willing to beg and keep my job I had another job less than a hour later
I'm doing the reverse, I finished college and I'm going into trade school, I was working no Union, part-time, I'm about to be in a union non Union job for a bit
It really depends on the Union and how it's structured. Who's at the top? Is the union consensus-based or top-down? If there's officials appointed with authority over others, who's appointing them? What conflicts of interest are present in your union? Does it compete with other unions? Donoteat01 has a pretty good video on the history of organized labor. He goes into detail on different kinds of unions around the 18-minute mark: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3HA3S_O_yxs.html
Being in a union I can say overall I like the idea... the problem is if the other members are too poor to strike your union is powerless. Inflation has basically made most unions toothless.
"I always remain on the fence" because of the duality of other people's reactions. So he's a man with no opinion or original ideas, and would make an excellently labor-friendly and highly corruptible politician. Just like Grandpa Joe.
Beach&BoardFan I’m just stating pros and cons. I’ve been a part of many unions and been in some toxic work environments so I have an understanding of most things I talk about it in the video ,listen to me
I think your expectations were too high for the video, this is more like someone talking from experience, so in the end you have to make a choice. Some unions are good some are bad, but you have to decide
- Knjn - As I have stated in the video at the beginning I think you missed it I am not for or against unions, I have been part of many unions in my time, and yes a lot of what I talk about comes from experience but it is also the truth, you need to re-watch my video and see what I’m saying, I’m trying to be unbiassed
@Justin space I'm just trying to find out where ppl find data to decide on a union, I work at a company that is not unionized, but, is looking to unionize, and I have no clue where to find independent info about the unions to chose one.
@@justinbarone57 I think you meant to reply to the other person or misunderstood what i said. I'm basically saying is that they were expecting a in-depth video with case studies, but this is more of a casual style video like someone sharing their experience with a friend vs a scientific analysis. I didn't say anything about you being biased or not, I understood what you said in the video which is why I said some are good, some are bad, it's up to you to decide, which is essentially what you're saying.
My brother joined a union a while back and absolutely hated it. He was working MORE hours. He worked for a warehouse at the time. Once he started, he was working four days a week but 13 hour shifts
Daniel Miles yes money gets taking off you pay cheque look at your stub, Union dues Pay towards benefits every pay Some companies have pension matching through your insurance provider so say you Contribute 5% every pay, your insurance provider matches that and it goes into the pot. You must be from the states? I’m in Canada
They have brainwashed you like the rest. Professional bilker conman is todays union worker. Nothing to do with treating workers fair. Embarrassing the men that raised you is todays union member. Con men grifters floppers
@@mikecapone6698 the 5% extra you bring home every month isn’t worth the bullshit and 90% of the time the union will side with whichever is paying them more let that be your 5% or the corporations 35%
I know exactly what you mean i use to work for parking company made it to supervisor within 1 yr and got fired on my 2nd year while bring the supervisor with most parking garage locations most employees most profit and when i got fired for not wanting to take over any more garages because I'm already doing literally double the work as the 2 no guy and not making anymore on my salary or bonuses and the union told me they couldn't do anything for me since its a upper management issue ..... which its just the owner was most definitely lining up the union peoples pockets so it more of a scam but now if you become a union electrician its a huge difference you get pension benefits for free a raise in pay plus you get to get more more every year because you grow to be a journey man to a master electrician and making well over 125,000k a year without overtime
For me it’s a hit and miss at my work most of the union reps side with the company on most matters. I got hurt at work a few days ago they give us 5 days to file paperwork for worker comp but the person that handles that doesn’t finish her shift and leaves early so I got to pay my medical out of pocket and they wrote me up for unsafe work place activities. It was a middle finger followed up with a slap in the face
To Apphus 144: The real brutality is when a worker refuses to pay -- huh! -- See if they're still sweet then. People's blood, sweat, and tears to work for a wage is *NOT A FREE RIDE.*

To Justin: I didn't watch the video: Write a narrative. At 0:24 seconds: Are you on both sides of the picket line when it's time to strike and forfeit beaucoup big bread for the unions' greed and sucker promises of job security?
I was forced to join a union and I hate it, we're on strike for a wage increase plus benifits etc which I can understand but unfortunately the company will not budge, me personally I'll work for whatever I'm being paid, I'm just happy to be employed at the end of the day and to make matters worse, our company has been working with a agency for years but now we're on strike, they have taken over our positions temporary, so not only we're outta work but we don't know when we'll return because the company is still running normally, tons of meetings and nothing has been resolved, I believe we were better off without the union because the future is uncertain now, this strike could last for months or even years, how do we make ends meet when no money is coming in?!
The only way I could see non union being better is if you are guaranteed prevailing wage your whole career and able to have better insurance. If you look in the long run when you retire with the union, you will have around 1/2 a million dollars in your 401k without adding any extra out of your check and a pension that could range you to about $5,000-$8,000 per month for the rest of your life. If I was to continue to non union I would only have social security.
By watching videos on people's opinions about is to me, considered research. So I am doing research by watching your video. Why would you tell me to do my research on unions when I'm already doing research on unions? What I'm trying to say is, I want your biased opinion on unions I want to know what your biases and I why it's your bias and I think that all opinions are based on biases so why don't you do your research on how to give advice.
Union pay wages and Benies are better that is a fact you can look it up let’s get to the details . At the end of the day it’s about money heatcare pension , annuity . Union pay offers higher wages and better benifits non union can not compare or come close . Yup!! Depending on where you go and what job you apply for. I worked for SD Padres for 5 seasons and I was forced to join a Union, I told my boss I don’t want to join I just want to work. Nope I had to join in order to work for them. It’s absolutely absurd. Don’t believe anything the Union person tells you honestly look at it this way. why would you want to pay someone to go to work? you’re already paying for gas do you think the unions gonna pay for your gas nope. Hell no!! Lol they expect you to punch that clock every day go to work and pay them monthly and if you don’t pay them they will take you off schedule. Fact… it’s bullshit
@@SDGuy1981 Why do you have to forcefully join a union, I don't live I a country where they are commonplace so I don't know. How does a union employer contract work?
GL with that in most businesses where I am they hire foreigners because they get away with way underpaying them. You have no leverage as one man and minimal as a group.
Dear G Juice Pttp: This would be more constructive. However, as a union monolithic entity, no. When one tries to stand out in his union shop, going the extra mile to impress their managers, they get laughed at by *union* co-workers. ------------ Ironically, the supervisor gets scared and spooked regarding the heat around this goody-two-shoes, doesn't want to help -- then TURN AGAINST *the same meek and docile worker who wanted to impress.*
So stay non union and don't be a union member and don't reep the benefits and healthcare and Benny card which pay for most all deductable is what your saying
Dear James Grove 3042: It's so sweet when you forfeit oodles of money to sorrily walk off the job and be forced to *turn your back upon the hand that feedeth;* Expecting to come back to the management's open arms without requite! @@eddyvideostar i don't really think people have any business claiming the labors of other people. I don't object to leadership or fair compensation for leadership, but leadership is service, it's not supposed to be about exploitation - and when working people are getting squeezed out of their communities and unable to live reasonably as they're squeezed by their bosses and corporations that are bilking more and more out of their wallets while adding less and less value, i don't think the common man owes any loyalty to a society that arguably views him as disposable. Society shouldn't work for the 1%, it should work for everyone. If it only works for the 1% or even the top 10%, you cannot expect the bottom 90-99% to be super jazzed about it all.
@@tomspettigue8791:I appreciate your dedicated paragraph. Management or "leadership" needs to *build* and steady the ship. A homeowner will *sign a contract for repairs* for a fair price. Unions suck…. My first shop was IAM. I was 25. Paid the same union dues and insurance as the guys who made 15 more dollars an hour then me. All of the 60 and up guys took all of the overtime and holidays. You make the same pay. I was eating ramen while these old farts took the overtime and would brag about their new 5th and HD bike. My second shop I made sure the union did not come into the shop. Once I told everyone about seniority they said no thanks. My current shop I get paid 3 more dollars an hour then our sister shop who is union.. As mechanics we have a shortage the last 12 years. I can find a job the next day. With my 22 Years as a Diesel mechanic. I am not worried about being let go.
I took a UPS job as part time with teamsters, and ask the guy how to get promoted and he told me not to aim for it. That is 100% a reason to tell him to go to hell.
To Alphuszero: The unions will hold one back with their nasty psyche and pariah-creating tricks. Shunning strife when you are striving for success. Ironically, after the acting management phase, one is over the other side as a real manager -- union workers will kiss their arse and paint their noses with the supervisors' sweet texture.
We need Unions. Unions make a difference. Unions are the workers. It’s the employers that manipulate the workers action on issues. Unions have resources to help inform workers and create media outlets to share to communities the problems the employer is doing. THATS NOT TRUE ABOUT UNION DUES. Your the problem. Union dues help with cost of education and right of representation and secure our contracts on the language to protect employees from being fired.
