This was a bucket list car for me, my favorite body style , managed to find an 04 GT with the 40th anniversary package, manual, and a cosmetic job from Roush, has the stage 3 body kit, side ported exhaust, upgraded intake, throttle body, cold air, coils, lowered 2.5", just replaced the suspension, had to drive 500 miles to get her, but she had 118k mi on it and it was the best $5000 i ever spent
@@jongordon5048 it was, they wanted 10k originally, first i asked for the roush serial numbers and they couldnt find them, price online dropped 1k online thst day, sent the VIN to roush and rhey gave me the build sheet so i knew it wasnt a clone, wheni test drove it i picked the interior and exterior to pieces, it had been i 2 accidents , no major damage but they didnt replace the roush front and rear they went stock, ran rough as hell, the stick bounced so bad i was sure the motor and tranny mounts were toast, ran the odb amd had to cylinder misfires and both o2 sensors bad, offered 4500 they countered 5000 i took it, replaced plugs, wores, and coil packs and the o2 sensors and it runs like a dream the mounta were fine just fouled out plugs, but they did seize in the block i had ti take the heads off to get them out, but while i was in there new metal gaskets, and tapped out the plug holes and put in steel sleeves so i can have a full set of theeads holding th in place, spent another 800 in parts and a weekend installing everything but still thr best money i have spent on a car well worth the month the wife made me sleep on the couch 😂
99-00 had the spoiler that connected to the deck lid on the ends. 01-04 had the other style, 01 is also when the bigger side scoops and hood scoop were added.
I’m a nearly 20 year owner of a 2001 mustang gt premium convertible triple black. Love the new edge and try and keep it looking and running good. Biggest issues in 20 years...dripping transmission from gasket leak, cracked plastic intake manifold, repainted hood scoop and spoiler, replaced hydraulic lift cylinders for convt. Replaced suspension after 100k miles. Last thought....I have learned to do most of my maintenance because only I will care the most and I know what was done and how the repair was done.
I have not done any repairs on my 2000 GT (w/$20,000+ in mods) except the passenger side window mount...of course my 20 year old car only has 45,000 miles!!
@@tacbear I believe the intake manifold and hyraulic lifts went out when I moved to FL. Car had never been down to FL and within a couple of years, had those issues. I believe the FL climate can really tear up cards. Car is out of FL now.
The v6s are actually very reliable my couzin has been owning one for about 6 years now and motor and trans still good id say they came out good depending on who previously owned it🤷♂️💯
YOUrBOIIMiGUEl 88 I’ve had two had one blow up because of precious’s owners not taking care of it had a pretty bad lifter tick when I bought it did an oil change sea foamed put Lucas in it and rode it out another 10-15k miles till it developed rod knock at 190k
I've got a 2013 GT obviously with a Coyote, and I am ALWAYS jealous of the sound of those 4.6 Mustangs. They are throaty with authority! Goosing the throttle produces a distinct bark that I love. I'm going to have to get one of those.
I agree. WTF do you people be smoking? Y'all like to claim that Coyotes sound like chit, and you exaggerate how bad they sound. In fact Coyotes sound pretty good. If you don't like your Mudstains 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2 firing order, then opt for a 5L F150 which uses the traditional Windsor 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 firing order. The Mustangs newer firing order offers up no performance advantage to the oldschool Windsor based firing order. Both make the same power, and will turn the same engine speeds when built the same. Look a Modular 2V is a great sounding engine, but they flow like chit. My 03 Lightning is the best vehicle I've ever owned, but not because a boosted 5.4L 2V Modular is some amazing powerhouse engine. My GEN3 Coyote in my 18 F150 is leaps and bounds superior from a performance aspect, but the 5.4L is reliable, sounds nice, and had a broad/linear pull, still compared to Coyote it's large, heavy, is a glutton for petrol, and can't turn close to the same engine speeds. Again Coyote is a pretty good sounding engine. People unfairly criticize its engine note based solely off seeing someone else on internetz who criticized it. You're just being a follower, and basing your critique off someone else's exaggerated chit talk. That's literally what y'all do. This used to happen back in the day with LS. It was always, "LS generally outperforms Modular, but Modular sounds awesome, while LS sounds terrible." IMHO Modular does generally sound better than LS, but that doesn't mean that LS sounds bad. To compare cars of this generation, a LS1 doesn't have the sexy rumble of a Modular 2V, but a LS1 sounds mean and pissed. A C5 or GEN4 Fbody with a LS1, and a good exhaust setup (cammed or otherwise) is a badass sounding car IMO. A cammed LS7 sounds better than 99% of all other engines ever made. But yes a Modular 2V/3V/4V with a well done exhaust sounds awesome. Hell a old Mustang 5L with an O/R H-pipe or Prochamber, and some good chambered mufflers is still one of the best sounding cars ever. Again Coyote doesn't sound quite as good as Modular IMO, but Coyote is a good sounding engine, that's made to spin, and it's willingness to turn higher RPM's is a reason why it isn't as throaty sounding as a Modular 2V that's made to ride a curve, as opposed to building speed throw spinning fast.
13:39 Yep, sounds exactly like mine, I bought it two months ago but didn't start driving it until a week ago, got ripped by a dealer, had to pay $1,500 for repairs, which is fine except one of the repairs had to do with the car taking off on it's on while at a dead stop, but I got a silver convertible and I love it, I fell in love with them when I used to rent them every weekend when I was TDY in Indianapolis, back when it was brand new, I LOVE convertibles, a loud car, loud music, the sun on your face, the wind in your hair, it's the best feeling ever.
You mentioned all the right points, and of course the sound of the 4.6 both 16 and the 32 valved engines. They're one of the greatest sounding engines of all time. At least for me. Just recently brought down just a notch by the FPC 5.2 Voodoo!!! And the Hemi engines. The 4.6 will run forever. Unfortunately, with age, issues start coming up - my PATS took a dump, that's the only thing wrong with mine right now. It's an 02, has 254,xxx miles, gears, basic bolt ons, suspension, all the essentials. Have not driven it for most of the year, when all the covid shut-downs started happening. You're right about the Firebirds too, had an '01 Formula I learned manual in, sigh* it will always have a place in my heart...
Yo guys i just bought my first car as a high schooler the other day, 1997 mustang v6 good condition, miles were 102,000, and it had a good stero with goof bass for 2,700$ it was 3k but negotiated a bit and im enjoying it
I have a 2001 GT that I bought in September of 2019, the only major issue I had with it was I had to replace the entire intake manifold due to the coolant hose connector broke like yours did. But other than that it's in very good shape for it's age
Got my 2002 Mustang GT in JR year of highschool. Had it for 8 years now and had no problems with it. Looking forward to putting some cams in it at some point. Best car I've owned so far. I've had so many fun times with it.
Cams determine a lot for engine performance. Best if try8ng to really raise the hp well above 300. However, Be prepared to spend much more money to upgrade other components to handle your new cams or you will run into issues. Also, reprogramming computer is often necessary. Good luck!
Exactly right. If you get a shop to do it, be prepared to spend $1-3k depending on what all they have to fix or change. Also the cams, springs, and new timing set come up to over $1,000 too.
@@CarGuyV8 Me and my dad are able to put the cams and other necessary parts in ourselves. The problem I'll have is tuning. How much should a tune cost?
Had an '01 myself, Dark green, now have an '04 Redfire GT. It has 72k on it. Thinking about doing a video on it sometime. Mods and whatnot. Good video. Blew the heater hose on my '01 as well, sprayed antifreeze all over my windshield at 105. Haha.
I have a 99 v6 that my grandfather bought off someone for like $500 bucks. it was just sitting there and they just wanted to get rid of it. I dont know what this person did or didnt do to it. but in the 2 years that i've had this car. ive had and have to fix/replace just about EVERYTHING on it. Brake pads, calipers, rotors, parking brake cable, truck, trunk lock, tires, alternator, spark plugs, fuel injectors, rebuilt transmission, power steering leak, leaky sunroof (Yup, they put a sunroof on the damn thing) battery, map light, interior trims, dashboard lights, ac leak, washer fluid pump, cowl, windshield, serpentine belt (that was my fault though) fuel tank, fuel pump, filler neck, fuel filter, rear differential, vapor canister, o2 sensors, driver side window motor, passanger side lock, tie rods, stereo system, wiring to passanger front speaker, etc This is also how i learned, if you need to replace your fuel tank. absolutely do not trash it immediately. take *AS MUCH OFF OF IT THAT YOU CAN* Those blue vapor valves on the top of it. one of them, the regulator, is no longer being made. so it might be an absolute pain in the ass to get a new one. i had to fabricate a method to get a similar model one to stay in place. it works, but it doesnt stay secured into the tank
Imo 2v motor its one of the best sounding engines👂🏼😍🤤 that ford made to THIS DAY🔥🔥🔥🔥 my mods are BBK longtubes headers BBK off x-pipe flowmaster original 40's with 4" exhaust tips and a mgw short throw shifter and 4:10 gears i love it👌🏼
I took "Natasha" out just a couple of hours ago and it was like the first time all over again. She is a B-A-UTIFUL White on White 2000 GT Cobra R Clone with $20,000+ in MODS...Vortech V2 SQ--Kenny Brown Full Road Race Suspension and Body/Frame mods--Cobra Brakes--Aluminum Drive Shaft--FR500 Concept car Leather Interior (1 of 94 Mustangs w/this mod)--Ford Racing "C" springs--Tokico 5 way Shocks/Struts...etc...12.5@111 and 171+ at Talladega (by GPS) on the back straight!! Lap times within 8 seconds of Mustang Challenge Race Cars at Barbers Motorsport Park Road Race Track. She is a keeper!!!!!!!
Exactly why I keep my 2000. That sound with Flowmasters is addictive. Only have cold air intake and it's not lowered to the ground yet, but in time. I'm going to get the motor rebuilt and some goodies but that sound is beautiful. Could be faster but it's beautiful and a girl magnet. And mine is silver and black and a convertible
I have a 04 Mustang GT automatic it’s a great car with a 176 thousand miles my linkage had my gas paddle 2 inch of slack. I used a pop rivit the same size as the cable and pull the rivit off and the cable and cut it and the flat thread threw and krimp down on it and the gas paddle up to pre factory height
I read.....now don't kill me in the comments if im wrong but I read that the New Edge mustang WAS going to be the last mustang. Around the time Chevy axed the Camaro and Firebird sports car sales were down ALOT. Turns out the new edge mach 1s and Bullits is what saved the car.
@@CarGuyV8 what should I buy this car for bro? 3kor 4k ima be driving a lot for work so I'm gonna beat on it but still baby it of course hope it lasts me 5 years I say.. so what mileage should I get it at?
If you’re wanting an automatic 3-4k can get you a pretty decent one, at least in my area. Look for one with less than 150k miles. For a 5 speed it’ll cost an extra grand or so.
Miss my 04 GT. It was a base model GT with the cloth manual seats, plastic shift knob and everything. LoL. But she was a damn good and reliable car. I ended up selling it bc I found a clean Foxbody and sold it bc I didn’t have a lot of space at the time and needed $$ to bring the bar find Foxbody up to reliable runner status. Yea that hood scoop looks good from inside the car. I sold my GT hood bc I found a cobra hood and wheels from a part out 5 yrs later and I still see that car around town at car meets or just on the road. Has a new owner every time I see her😢
@@CarGuyV8 yea man they are good cars and I mean they are at their rock bottom prices and they made enough of them that they’re still plenty of decent ones left. All the V6s got crushed and junked but ppl took better care of GTs for the most part
I just sold my 03 GT in the same color as yours with a standard transmission to buy my new 97 Camaro Z/28 with the automatic transmission and a brand new engine and transmission. I had the same problems with the Mustang that you had except I blew a spark plug out of it. Both of my cars had 120,000 miles on them. I like the Chevy best. I am and will always be a Ford guy!!!! I think in my opinion that the Chevy is built better. The Mustang GT interior is very cheap. And the suspension on the Mustang was really crappy!!! The Z/28 seems to be a whole lot better designed and has held up a lot better. I do intend to buy a newer Mustang soon!!! I'm a new subscriber to your channel. I love your content. There's nothing like the sound of a Mustang!!!
Thanks for subscribing! I’m a Ford Chevy Mopar guy. A rare breed lol. I’ve yet to own a mopar though. Those LT1s have tons of torque and I really miss that about my old ones.
@@CarGuyV8 I have owned several Mopar vehicles too. Mostly 4X4 trucks but I did have a Coronet 440 quite a while back. I do love Mopar too. My wife has a Chrysler 300 SRT8 that she loves. Like I said we have the same tastes in cars. I used to take the Mustang to car shows in San Antonio. Can't wait to take the Z/28 soon.
My 2002 New Edge 3.8 Litter V6 with K&N cold air intake upgrade Zink Yellow/black mustang is my Daily n I also have a 2015 S550 2.3 Litter Ecoboost with Roush cold air intake upgrade black mustang is my once in a while drive I love both for there own style, what they have as features, power n handling
I own a 03 dark shadow grey and it has everything mach 1000 sterio ,5.0 shifter accel coils 320gph fuel pump 78mm bbk tb,cold air intake, outlaw series mufflers and o/r h pipe and all leather black interior and a predator 93 tune and full funtioing scoop, and she flys.
the wider rims on the back do look good on these cars but im not feeling the wide cobra rims, i think the cobra rims look the best if they are the same all the way around the Mach1 rims do look better with the wide afs rims on the back tho, great looking cars man
Not sure I could ever be happy with the v6 version . I got a 96 gt soft top. Happy with it coming from a ownership of all gens of the MR2 and Supra turbo. Its quick , light and sounds fantastic bummer its a Ford but we will give it a try.
@Lobster Johnson fuck no they don't last for shit. I had one for a first car. Coyote swap that trash ass 2v. Probably one of the worst motors Ford had ever done on these mustangs.
I got my first 2004 GT at 17 I bought it with my own money and still have it at 20 years old it had 69k miles it's a great first car just give it preventative maintenance and itll take care of you I promise
I deleted the spoiler on my last Mustang GT. I think it looks cleaner like that too. I did take it off of this car and for some reason it looked bad on this car. It must be the color.
@@CarGuyV8 It looked bad without the spoiler? huh. I have a 2010 GT that luckily didn't have a spoiler. To me that was a plus. Reminds me of the older notchback Stangs that didn't have any. Different styling of course, but zero spoiler. Anyway, sweet ride man. I do like the new edge styling. I just don't care for the 2015 to present. They don't look like pony cars anymore. Once youtube lifts the ban on me, I'm planning on uploading my primitive walk around vid. Cheers man!
It’s been awhile since I’ve made this video and so now that I’ve owned it awhile I’m back to thinking the 4th gen fbody is better lol. Whichever one I own I seem to like the one I don’t own more haha!
thinking about 4valve swapping mined i have stripped spark plug hole and broken intake manifold and possibly spun bearring and maybe bad head gasket. probably would spen just as much on the swap as to fixing it
I have a 2004 GT stock like yours. I bought it because previous owner blew head gaskets. I had mechanic to install 2 rebuilt heads. Timing chain and guides, lifters, water pump, new plugs and plug boots. It is running good, passed inspection, however I can still hear ticking. Sounds like lifters. I am thinking maybe cam. Any suggestions? Thanks
4.6s don’t have traditional lifters since they have overheard cams. If the mechanic warranties their work I would take it back and see if they can figure out what it is under warranty.
Very goodlooking newedge. What tire size is this and what exhaust setup ? I only have a borla touring on mine. Ur soubd is awesome on that thing. But very lound boyyy
Yes it is safe. Just make sure it’s been maintained. I bought my first one with 258k. The one in this video had 140k when I bought it. Maintenance is key.
Yep that’s right that’s what I did I put them chrome bullit deep dish on my 04 mustang GT automatic dark shadow gray and I love it the 18 inch staggered mt from American mustle
i own a v6 2014 mustang but would it be dumb buying a 2001 v8 mustang lmao. that thing was my first car in a v6 edition. you think its worth the time or nah coming from a beginner in cars
Had 4 new edge mustangs so far. 8 total mustangs in my lifetime. 00, 01gt, 04 gt, and my favorite my 03 cobra. Definitely my favorite body style. My current car is a 2017 5.0, but I miss my cobra. Is your car dark shadow grey or mineral grey. My cobra was mineral....edit...I see u answered that in the video
They have them for sale on American Muscle’s website. Search for Cobra replacement rims and there’s a decent list of them so you can find which ones you like the best.
