I think you need to consider water flows at different times of the year. Looks like spring so you are at maximum flows, unless the stream has changed over time. Just an idea

A claim owner has the mineral rights only, he does not own the land, therefor anybody can walk through it, camp on it and even hunt.

Claim owner of a non-patened land cannot stop you from walking ,camping or recreating. Patented land on the other side of which there are thousands of claims in Colorado, do have the right preventing you from crossing, or being on that land.

The over burden might be really deep, so you won't hit gold until you get to bedrock. Try looking for old benches in the woods to either side of the stream. The might have stream meandered over the decades and left old benches and old exposed stream bed for you to dig into.

even if this is an old clip, I think you are misunderstanding something. If the claim is on goverment land anyone can pass trough. Claim owners only own the valuables IN the ground nothing else. and if the claim owner has it on private land only the landowner can state if its private property or not, not the claim owner and it has to be marked out as private property on loads of places. Hunters can from both goverment and private landowners buy hunting rights so both propectors and hunters can have rights to the same land for different reasons.

Tom Massie said that the gold would stick to the roots. and if you saw black sand around plants in the creek pull them up and get the dirt off of the roots. I did that on the Colorado river in Columbus Texas and found a few tiny specs. I couldn't believe I found even about ten tiny specs that you could hardly see..It is hard to find gold in Texas.
@Klesh
@Klesh 6 лет назад
Yeah roots are gold grabbers but I try to avoid damaging that when I can.

Woot glad you took some ideas from other coments. I knew it would work better.It appeared to work way better. That low pressure zone that was up creek should have had gold there. My guess is you had to go deeper because you didn't find any heavies either. And where tree uprooted I would have dug deeper into the ground and tested. I have found nails shot and metals in Rappahannock River in locations of low pressure North of pyrite gold belt and was for sure certain I would find specks but nothing. I just think deeper past overburden in that low pressure spot would have revieled something.But I digress. Awesome video and for sure some VERY nice senery. Great video Shane. And liking that nugget bucket more and more. Cheaper than a sluice which I don't have either. Pan on All

I used to and still do love Gold Fever. Tom said the higher elevations in gold bearing country had the bigger nuggets. I wish I knew where he found a bunch of gold. I guess that's a secret. And it was in Colorado. Did you like his show? I like Freddy Dodge he seems to know where the gold is. It's funny I don't know where any is. I"m sorry to say my son was at school at Santa fe High School in Santa fe Tx. He is ok but I feel a loss for words for the other kids and parents for their loss. This was horrible. I wish everyone could say a prayer for the people that lost their children or loved ones, if that is ok?

You might find some gold there if you find an area of the Stream where it has migrated from that stream hasn't been following the same path all its life try to locate if you get permission to go there again where it may have been flowing 500 years ago or thousand years ago typically a stream will migrate as it takes a Bend it will move further and further and further so find somewhere where there's a nice Bend in find a spot 20 feet away on the inside Bend and dig straight down you're bound to hit Old River gravel that's where you'll find the old gold I'm sure you know this already but it's just a suggestion I'd love to see you find a nice big nugget

I think the part where the classifier sits isn't deep enough for a metal one to be useful, and even if I did have a metal one, I think the plastic piece it rubs on would eventually wear through. Cool idea though!

I grew up in Aurora but now live in Colorado Springs. Unfortunately the closest decent place to prospect for gold is near cripple creek. I just got a 50" sluicer with a recirculating pump so I will be trying some spots near cripple creek here in about a week or so. I subscribed to your channel because I noticed that you too live in Colorado and although you mine far North of me I'm hoping your videos can help me with finding gold hotspots by identifying various minerals in our Colorado environment. If you could make a video specifically on what exactly to look for when scouting out an area that would be very helpful (if you haven't already). I know you touch base on what to look for in each of your videos but I've been looking for a video that really goes in depth on that subject in particular (in relation to Colorado). I appreciate the content and keep up the good work. P.S Watch out for squatches while you're out there. lol
@Klesh
@Klesh 6 лет назад
Honestly I just check online to see where active claims are located, and forums talking about gold rich areas that are open to the public. Those areas will have gold, and that's enough for me to try finding the best spots. If I knew more about geology I'd know exactly where to look, but other people have already done that work for us. Thanks for watching

Shane when you sample in the river dig down as deep as you can. I've made the mistake of sampling off the top and left. Came back dug it out and did well. Good luck great video. I'll get you down on the Arkansas with us this summer. THANKS
@Klesh
@Klesh 6 лет назад
Ill remember that but can't promise Ill dig down very deep. Funny though you'd think there would be some float gold or some indication of gold, especially if they were pulling out 1/8 to 1/4 ounce of gold per weekend here. Thanks that would be fun on the Arkansas river, get some sody pops and dig some holes!

you need to follow bedrock bud, there has or find big boulders an dig under them. Or like those deep spots where it gets dark, could already be close to bedrock. Love watching your vids though it does bring lots of memories of Colorado.

At least you made it outside! Have a nice creek in Michigan that I get flour out of. Had a couple spots that should have had lots, but alas, only a few specs. Found a hard turn gravel bar short way upstream where all the gold was falling out. Also found a a couple natural riffles (rocks and a log) on a straight shot after a bend. 1st pan had over 20 colors. That's great for Michigan. Keep up the effort. Audio was great.

make sure until you are good at panning that you pan into a catch container...throw some bbs in with some dirt from your yard..when you can pan all the dirt out with leaving the bb's in the pan..you are ready..make sure to use jet dry in your water..It keeps the very fine gold from floating........good luck..and personal preference- buy a GREEN pan....

Hey brother. Didn't you score one of the large rucks from US Calvary? You know.....the ones they gave us the discounts on lol. I bet you could haul all your gear in that one pack, plus have the detachable assult pack to carry small shit in when scouting smaller areas. Couldn't help but notice you where humping in two bags.
@Klesh

I got this pack from a Green beret, traded for a spool of 550 cord. One of our Warrant officers gave me a whole box of 550 cord because it had water damage on the bottom, so I actually still have a couple spools left 20 years later LOL. I lost my assault pack a long time ago otherwise I'd have it hooked up.

A claim isn't private property unless it's patented. A regular claim is a claim to the minerals located in and on the ground at that location. Anybody can hike through, camp, or hunt. They just can't take any minerals.
@Klesh
@Klesh 6 лет назад
Thanks Stan Summers for watching!
@PastorRob77
@PastorRob77 6 лет назад
It could be the foot prints belonged to a hiker. Not necessarily means someone was a claim jumper. The guy who owns the claim owns the mineral rights but not the land. People can move across the land, just not mine in someone else's claim without permission. At least, that's my understanding.

Unless the claim is a patented claim (giving both land and mineral rights), then it is not illegal be on the land. It is illegal to remove minerals from someone else's claim.

A Claim in most places only gets you the rights to prospect or mine the claim. It in no way is owner ship to the land. Could even have be a claim inspector walking the land. Forestry agents, fire line inspectors all walk lands when spring gets here. My bet is a hunter scouting out where the animals spent the winter.

Yep. It's usually just Mica or Pyrite. If it only shines in the sun, it's probably not gold. If it shines in the shadow, good chance it is. Thanks for watching
@peternelson3433
@peternelson3433 6 лет назад
Ya it's just on your camera it doesn't pick up gold that well or that small of gold that well. But you can most of the time see sorta what you are looking at but reflections really don't help.

So im layin around just chillin after work and watchin sum of yur old vids. Then i came up with an idea for ya. I said self. I think it would be cool to put some of yur gold on a guitar pick and give it away. So i thought. Grab a pik, hit it with spray glue, sprinkle some flakes, then put some kinda clear coat on it. Kind of like some shellac. Think it would look really cool. Anyway. It's just a thought. Rock on dude! ROCK ON!!

As soon as I touched it, the shine went away because I moved the angle. Gold always shines no matter the angle. Thanks for watching!

That's prospecting it can be ruff sometimes if this Colorado this claim could be loaded but it would probably be in bedrock or in the side of the mountain most of the million dollar claims in this part of the country chased hard rock and they got filthy rich look for the darker color ore black or greyish colored rocks chase them down or sideways into the mountain that's how they got rich in Colorado just a prospector tip good luck guys there can be placer deposits there but the elevation would be lower I would suspect :)

What if the gold is 10 feet under the ground?
@Klesh

Then you need to dig that deep to get it, right? Thanks for watching

if the gold on that claim was under the ground 10 feet deep down how would you mine it? Could you use bull doziers and machinery? what repair to the area would be required after the gold was mined?
