Got out to look around at the sunstone spot for a bit and ended up finding a new source!! The material from this vein isn't the highest quality but there sure is a lot of it. I'll definitely be back soon to see if I can gather up some more!!

Mind blown. Congratulations! Looks gemmey. If you haven't done so already you should set up a claim on that spot.

Thanks!! It is under claim at the moment!! I'm hoping to do as much work as I can out there this year so I can write it off on the SOW😁

Thanks!! It was a great day out, lots of mosquitos and black flies out there but that's what you get when you're in the woods, right!!😅

Successful diggings right there! Love that flash in the Sunstone.
@NWRockExplorer
@NWRockExplorer 2 года назад
There's really nice flash in that material coming from the seam but unfortunately very little of it is lapidary grade. That's the way it goes sometimes, might be able to make some nice specimens though🙂

@@NWRockExplorer darnit, but raw specimens are nice to have too.

This new seam holds some of the best schiller I've seen in the area so far!! Hopefully I'll be able to work some of this material into some cabochons!!😁

I love your videos! The beautiful schiller in your sunstones, is so exceptionally pretty. The moonstone is gorgeous too, but that schiller is really gorgeous! Our sunstone here in Oregon, doesnt have that schiller. Ours is basically just transparent with maybe a transparent color of red or green inside. And that piece with the biotite mica was awesome. Really super gorgeous stuff! So jealous! Canada has some of the best minerals! Awesome video! Thanks for taking us along!

Thanks!! I really like this sunstone material, some of it works great for jewelry making but for the most part its specimen grade material. Some Oregon sunstone actually does have schiller but its quite rare. what's unique about the Oregon sunstone is that it has copper schiller rather than the typical hematite or magnetite that forms in my variety!! Thanks for watching my videos by the way, it's always awesome to see some familiar names in the comment section!!😃

@@NWRockExplorerI always watch videos! I have been a fan for a while now! It was great to see you in the chat of the podcast! Jarrod joins us every friday! We have quite a few from canada. Did you join the discord? There are two that are frequented by all of us. The rockhound podcast you just email them and the will send you a link, also geode cracker and collector and rufotris-rooted rockhound have their own discord that anyone can join without an invitation. There is people from around the world so someone is always lurking around. But you can promote your channel, show your finds, ask questions of the group, and basically just chat. You dont have to chat. You can reply to whatever you want, or not reply at all. Participate however much you are comfortable with. Its all fine. Let me know if you want the link.

I have a couple nice samples of sunstone from Ontario!! I'm not sure where its from exactly but a friend gave it to me. It's really nice solid material and honestly is way easier to work than the material I've found in this spot!!🙂

Dude what the heck ive literally been researching how to do this and even posted in the BC rockhunters group about it days ago.. its like you read my mind!!! Lol!
@NWRockExplorer
@NWRockExplorer 2 года назад
Sunstone can form almost anywhere potassium feldspars are present!! Generally sunstone is formed when orthoclase feldspar is included with hematite or magnetite. Oregon sunstone is an exception because it forms from an anorthite albite mix which is in the labradorite family and has native copper inclusions!! Best of luck out there and keep an eye open for any other interesting minerals while you're out and about!!

Definetly!! I'd need a come along for that one or a really big bar!! Who knows maybe with a bit of angle I might be able to figure out a way to do it with the tools I have. Next time I'm out there I'll have to give it a try!!
