Prospecting For Quartz And Feldspar Crystals!! New Pockets Found!!⛏ 

That's awesome!! I try to share as much as I can as I'm still learning myself. I'd like to go more in depth in the future. Every winter I put a lot of effort into researching so I can put it into practice in the summer. Now Is the time to get some boots on the ground again, I'll be back out exploring soon🙂

Thanks!! I try to be careful, honestly what I'm doing in this video is quite mild compared to what some of my friends do. There is still risk involved though so it is always good think it through and find the safest route. That's basically why I ended up making that tree ladder🙂

Thanks!! Yea it was a little sketchy on that ledge, I wasn't too high up but still it's best to be as safe as possible. I'm quite happy with the finds from this trip and I have high hopes for some even better pockets in the future🙂

That is probably the way to do it. I will probably return to these spots in the future, just takes time to dig around and find those larger pockets. It's also good to explore these areas just incase over the next hill there could be a better deposit or a more valuable mineral😉

Thanks!! The rivers are going to start flooding soon, we had a fairly cold spring so there's lots of snowpack still up in the mountains and it melting quickly!! hopefully I can hit up a couple creeks before it starts to really rage😁

@@NWRockExplorer I forgot to mention that when you said you were going to build a tree ladder, I thought you meant one of those special ladders that is used for picking fruit trees. I didn't realize you meant an actual tree! That was a really great idea!

Thanks!! A lot of the time I just go use my best educated guesses when I'm out in the field!! I'm still learning a lot myself and I've caught myself making a few mistakes in the past but that's how you learn right!! I'm always happy to throw a few tips out there if there's ever any questions you might have😉

@@NWRockExplorer definitely, I will let you know. Anything you search online is like the best version of that rock or mineral so its typical not the grade I'm finding out there, so most I struggle with unless it's hands on learning and seeing it in person kind of thing.

@@CityRockhounding I struggled with that a lot at first too, I find if I search for minerals on sales pages like etsy or ebay there's lots of realistic examples to look at!!😁

Thanks!! Tree ladders are a nice thing to have especially if you're digging in the same area a lot. you can always just stash it in the woods and use it at the next spot!! Hopefully I'll come across some more pockets in this area with some even better crystals in them, really it's all about finding one big enough and that didn't get filled with too much feldspars. Usually the Pockets with a nice grey or green clay hold the best crystals!!

Thanks!! I'm thinking about getting a roll of high vis reflective tape that they use on trailers, that stuff is fairly strong and is probably brighter than any paint I can get. Hopefully It works out and I can even put some on my other tools that can be easy to loose😁

I should really make a video on that topic!! Just to simplify it a bit, I start by looking at geological maps and compare my area to the geology of mineral localities around the world. After that it's all on foot and searching for indicators of the minerals that might form in those rocks🙂

@@NWRockExplorer okay, I thought it was something along that ways, very cool, and I would love to see a video on your process

I do like to break open some pegmatite whenever I can, sometimes the dykes can be just too hard to break into with hand tools. Generally I like to look externally for indicator minerals, corundum generally forms in rocks that are low in silica around sillimanite, syenite, and amphibole. Lithium Tourmaline will form around lepidolite, clevelandite, and schorl. Samples are always a great idea for future reference too. When you see the right situation with indicators for the mineral your searching for then it is time to start spending some time breaking up rock.

Florida seems pretty nice!! That agatized coral you guys get out there is awesome too!!

Watch out for the tree climbing iguanas if the weather gets unusually cold. They've been known to fall out of the trees and conk people!

Tessin habit is a type of quartz crystal, It just describes the formation. Tessin habit is where the quartz crystal is basically tapering from the base into a point looking like a six sided icicle😁

I'm not to sure how to describe it so here's a little copy and paste from wikipedia, there's just too many different varieties to give a simple description that covers them all🙂 "Feldspars are a group of rock-forming aluminium tectosilicate minerals, containing sodium, calcium, potassium or barium. The most common members of the feldspar group are the plagioclase (sodium-calcium) feldspars and the alkali (potassium-sodium) feldspars."

I am a miner. Why should anyone spend such time and hard work sourcing an area just to give it away to others? No chance!!!!

I'm in BC Canada. NY has some pretty awesome minerals though, what do you usually dig for over there? Always really liked that subway garnet and all the Herkimers from out that way🙂

@@NWRockExplorer I started really actually “getting into” minerals a few weeks ago. So far I’ve found garnets of course, lots of Corinthian agates, regular agates, Schist, a pretty piece of calcite, and this awesome quartz rock that has several crazy iron stained crystals all over it. All here in “the woods” of Yonkers, NY. Watching your video has given me an idea of what to look for, thank you
