Wanted to thank you for the information! I'm a relatively new amputee (since 12/26/21) and got my first socket in April of '22. My residual limb is short like yours and I've been having a tough time getting the right fit for a socket. My prosthetist suggested the hybrid system and I found your content. This such good info!

I appreciate your video. I was recently fitted with a VASS and it was a terrible experience. The day I got the test socket, wearing it was painful right from the start. After I lost the leg it was two years before insurance kicked in but when I went to try out my very first temporary pin locking socket, I stood straight up and walked like I never missed a thing. I did in fact, come home and you've never seen a man so excited and happy to mow his front and back yard. Yes, I over did it but I was happy as could be. Now back to the VASS...when I took it off at the end of the day my limb was painful and there were three HUGE blood filled blisters due to a vacuum leak within the socket. For the last three weeks I have had to be on crutches or a wheelchair. Needless to say, I will NEVER use anything that has a vacuum pump or vacuum assisted suction socket. Have you ever had any problems like that?
Just found your channel and I love it! I am learning so much! I am still a fairly new amputee and haven't gone beyond my first "training leg". Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience with the rest of us!
Need to watch this a few more times. I have the same prosthetic had it for a month and having a default time. My hanger guy is Just to busy lately so I must be my own advocate and figure it out.
I have lived with a crushed ankle for over 30 years and had it fused 20 year ago. Contemplating BKA. Trying to learn. . .I have thought about it off and on for 20 years. . . And the thought of running again would be awesome. If people have "warnings" I'm open to hearing.
Hi my dad use tochange my mom’s linner for her. He recently passed. How do I get pin/ screw out to change the liner? What tool do I use todo so? At one time my dad showed me and I did it. However, I forgot what tool we used?
I’m an RBK for 7 years, started with a pin lock then went to a simple vacuum. Time for a new leg. I’m thinking of a socket with an assisted vacuum it’s a Rush foot. Have any other suggestions?

That's great to hear! I'm really digging it. Due to my short resiual limb, I'm using two of the outer seals instead of one, and that made all the difference in the world. That way, instead of 3 rings to seal it in, there's 6. So even if movement in my socket breaks the bottom three, the top three keep the seal nicely. For sports and high-impact activities, I'd still add a sleeve over it for extra security, but it's definitely my favorite system I've ever had.

I just got this leg, it is my first one since my amputation. Thank you for all of the info because my prosthesis didn’t tell me what anything did or was for. Same leg and same shoes!!?? Are those hey dude shoes?

It totally depends on your location. Mine is in Denver and has been great at always going the extra mile to get things just right. With my new system, I'm actually using two sets of the seals so there are 6 seals instead of just three. It's not perfect, but it makes a huge difference in the fit.

At minute 5 you talk about buying "a pump" off of eBay. Can you clarify? By a pump I assume you mean an active battery -drive pump as opposed to the passive mechanical pump that Ossur has integrated into its Unity system pump. A few more details on the snowboard foot would be great. I have a BioDapt alpine foot and am looking at the same scenario. Also, you have a link to Ossur One Fit Direct Socket. Have you found that to work? I'm in Colorado also and curious what clinic you worked with.

Unfortunately, I don't have any advice on that front. My running foot is still set up on my older sockets with a suction system. I would imagine that you should be able to add a sleeve to this setup and it would work. You'd just lose out on the vacuum. Otherwise, I'd think you'd have to have the vacuum attached to the socket somehow. For my non-vacuum foot, I found a used Ottobock P3 on ebay, and I use that. But it's too tall to fit with my running foot.
@@AdaptableOrg appreciate the quick response. I'm going to look into the p3. I'll comment back if we find something that works with the hybrid system. It has been a game changer so far.
I have a vacuum BLK and I like it but I feel the liner alway crunches up or my leg gets sweaty and I feel I’m falling out of it. I used to have the pin and felt more secure.
