He initially lost his lower right leg due to a coordinated IED attack in Northern Tikrit Iraq and attempted to keep the leg for a year. Hey big daddy. First video and I subscribed. You tell it like it is. No whiney bullshit. We've lost legs, figure it out. I had mine removed September 21. Waiting to get the staples out. Honestly, it's no big thing. I've had foot amputations since last year so I'm dealing. My mantra is Process and Pattern. There's nothing that can't be done. Some things are just weird to do. I'm using an iWalk right now and my pant leg is always damp. It's part of the new life. I'll keep checking back. Thanks.

Well, usually us Big Fellows tend to sit a lot more. Diabetes is the cause to the Prosthetasist don't have to make them Xtra Heavy duty.. You will know. something will feel a little different.. You also have to gouge your activity level.. I have 3 different legs , regular walking, PT, and a swimming leg. all of them are built different. Good luck and welcome to the club. Keep putting one foot in front of the other. They make em, You break em…

My first prosthetic foot broke off while I was crossing a street. I didn't fall down, just lowered myself on my butt. A guy did try to help me up, but he didn't understand that I couldn't get up. I scooted myself back to the corner and texted for a ride home as my plans for the day were definitely cancelled and trying to get back on the bus would not have been easy.

I feel your pain. Lost one in front of a UPS delivery Girl. I felt it going, Presto /Chango it was bouncing off the side walk as I was completing the pest possible example of a forward roll that a one legged man could muster up on such short notice. Needless to say, "She lost her shit! " She Just couldn't wrap her head around what was happening. I got up and hopped over to the resting part of my property , reattached it, advised her that everything was going to be all right , licked my wounds and went about the day. What was not transferred to that fine lady was that under Normal circumstances a Bipedal hominid would subconsciously attempt to place down a foot in an attempt to prevent the fall. Much like I did. But the foot wasn't anywhere to be found and gravity had its normal effect of what at the time would have been described as a "Body In Motion" and wanted to keep it in motion. Another example of weirdness in action . One day I was on a bike ride with my daughter and due to it being sweaty as a sum Bitch standing next to the hinges of hell, the leg came off, spinning into the street, past an oncoming car and down the embankment onto the side of the road. the First time I had to tell my Daughter. " Hey, go get daddy's leg before we cause a traffic accident." Life is an adventure . You just have to keep rolling with the punches.

@@Trinityforce13 Is there a reason why you opted for clip on prosthesis over the suction one?
@Trinityforce13
@Trinityforce13 4 года назад
@@veganmikedizzle4303 Lots of them. First. My height and weight. I break everything I Frigging touch. 6'4" and 300 lbs puts me on the outer edge for prosthetics in general. My location on the planet.( the Keys) is hot, Humid, and surrounded by the Ocean, and finally that the pin system, well it has worked for me the best over time.. Just so you know I really wanted the cool ass Vacuum leg.... My first prosthetic was a high speed vacuum suction model. It lasted literally 3 days. the Seal would lose suction. the pump would continuously run and then not at all. it malfunctioned a lot. which of course is a $25,000 dollar issue.. for replacement. dealing Insurance and that whole Nut roll... and it just didn't work for me. With the Pin system. I have a walking leg, a workout leg, and a swimming leg. I can change them like I change my shoes or in this case SHOE. depending on what I want or need to do. If Im swimming, Scuba diving or Spear fishing. I add an extra sleeve over the top of my socket, plus it up with a little Duct tape and go CHeck out #Curseofthebermudatriangle . Or lets say I want to take a 10 mile bike ride. No problems. Switch legs and ride on. No muss no fuss slip, clip and go! At the end of the day, You still have to deal with pouring sweat out of the liner but you will have that no matter what you choose. Hope it helped.

@@veganmikedizzle4303 LOL,, was he Missing a leg??? IF not (How the Fuck would he know..LOL) Seriously .. It may. when I had mine it sucked on like a truck Stop hooker. but of course it let go the same way.. No Money $$$ No Honey... It did feel good, Stable, right up to the point i used it like it owed me Money. and then up and quit like i was asking it to do its job or something... Im Very Active. So I was hoping that it would work. I have seen it work on other amputees that I know. It just didnt work for me. My Stump Atrophied a lot in the beginning. I was going though 2 sets of legs every year. and snapping feet like a champ.. it just started to calm down a bit. But dont worry you will know... from the minute it sucks on if its gonna work or not. There is nothing like the old leg. but the new shit out there gets pretty close. Just take it one day at a time Brother

Hey great video. I'm a recent amputee. I lost my right leg below the knee. I lost my leg December 29, 2019. I just recently got my reseal for my prostetic. My biggest issue has been no physical there'py sonxw I have no insurance . Everything I have accomplished is hard work and forcing myself to do things. Is there any wisdom you can offer?

William. Keep on Keeping on. First: You have to Desensitize your stump, Touch it, Rub it, and give it a good smack every now and again. (After its done healing) you have to re learn a lot of stuff. Take your time. Everyone including myself wants shit to happen now. regain your confidence. (2) The Physical Therapy you can do on your own for Free Ninety Free. Get a Towel and stretch your leg out as often as you can. keep the joint working. keep bending it back and forth. Your other leg is going to feel like shit because its taking up slack so be mindful of that too. (3) Depending on where you are located on the planet. Sweating is a motherfucker. Keep a Towel on hand and keep the stump dry. if you wear pants Keep your undies in the Shorts variety (Its a little less offensive when you drop trow in the middle of the store to fix your leg, and yest that will happen.) Eventually it will self regulate the temperature , but in the beginning... You guessed it. It sucks. (3) learn to roll when you fall. if you were ever in Karate or Aikido you will know what I mean. Tuck your head and take the roll when you feel yourself falling out of the prosthetic leg. Again you will put a leg that is not there forward to stop your self and that sucks too... (4) Figure out where your nerve points were moved to after the operation. Every once in a while Ill get a cramp in a foot that is no longer attached to my physical body but my mind dont believe that shit... Massage find out what works for you. I personally do not have phantom pain when I am plugged into the prosthetic. Its when I unplug it happens. Put on the sleeve roll with the foot cramp and act like your stretching out your old leg.. (5) Don't leg shit stop you. eat right, Say your prayers, Take your vitamins and keep living. Hope that helped...

@@charlesmeier6691 Hi Bro, I like your video and the no bs advice that you give, therapy didn't tell me to rub my wound or touch it to desensitize it. I'm gonna start slapping it around (gently at first). It makes sense. Thanks and God bless you

Yep. Keep doing what you are doing and do what works for you. So I apologize for not getting back to you sooner but here is BIGDADDY's Words of Wisdom for Brand new Prosthetic users. (1)Get Comfortable in the Suck.. Own the fact that your missing a leg and are not part of a select group of highly motivated individuals that can call themselves the one legged men in an ass whooping contest. Busy is an understatement. When its good its really good. When you wake up in the morning and realize your above the grass and not under it. Everyday is a Blessing, and Every Meal is a Feast. (2) Get off the Drugs A.S.A.P (3) Get out doors and get physical again. All that shit you used to to. you can still do. it just takes a little more effort and you may not be as fast doing it. (4) Massage your stump early and often. It desensitizes your stump and keeps the circulation up . Stay Clear of Rubs and HOt Spots. You dont want to get an infection started that will keep you in the Bed for a long time. Or even worse. make you have take another couple of inches off the bottom end. (5) Since you are now missing an appendage that you have lived your whole life up to the point of removal, your brain and your leg are wired a little different than normal. Find out what works for you. Leg cramps ( Pressure points) are now located at different locations on your body. (6) Depending on your geographical location on the planet, Sweating is a full time job. and keeping the leg on at time is futile at best . Carry a Towel. Hell Cary two towels (7) the Atrophy of your stump. you will find Weird at best, but nothing that you can do about it. In your first year(s) you will go through lots of shrinkage of the limb . when you start turning your prosthetic around 365 degrees. Its probably time for a new one. When you start bottoming out in the prosthetic . Its time to get a new one. When the prosthetic starts falling of for no reason. You guessed it. Time to get a new one. The Budget answer is extra Sock to take up that space. Note the Extra sock will create HEAT. HEAT CREATES SWEAT. SWEAT CAUSES YOUR F*&CKING LEG TO FALL OFF . Remember that Towel??? Fix the problem early and often. (8) Start learning how to fix your own shit. At an average of $20,000 a pop. Get you a Tool Box, for your leg and carry that around with you. ( Man purse or what ever. Because you will never know when you need it) Pay attention to how the Prosthetic guy adjusts your leg. and makes it comfortable for you to be the best version that you can be. Its not rocket science just a little tweaking of the parts here and there. Keep it clean, Tighten up the screws, Lubricate and Loctite the parts that need lubrication and locking. (9) If you need one . you have two. Get you a box of Spare parts. (Screws Bolts, Nuts, & Spacers. All the way up to used Feet.) Especially if you don't have the insurance to get new shit. I have made many of Frankin leg out of Ebay Prosthetics for Pennies on the dollar. (10) Get back to living. Own the fact that you can be a pirate 365 days a year. Never stub your tow on that foot again. accessorize your leg make it pretty. You can now get a Brand new Tattoo every year. Racing stripes to political statements. Thats the best I could come up with right off the bat. I hope that it helps. KEEP MOVING FORWARD. or You will be left behinds.

I lost my right foot and ankle due to an infection in 2015. I was in a convalescent hospital for eight months while it healed. Because I was on Medicaid I only had a little bit of therapy, mostly exercises and learning to stand up on one leg. Otherwise, I was on my own. I used rubber exercise bands to keep the strength in my legs. When finally got my prosthetic I would take small steps next to my bed using a walker. It was difficult at first. It took me less than a week to teach myself to walk again.

If I could offer you anything, it would be to direct you into reading a book my dr. William Davis - wheat belly. No joke it has nothing to do with being an amputee however everything to do with health. I came across your video because my next door neighbour is an amputee and I wonder if I can help him get back into boxing. Best wishes to u

Thank you for the advise and the recommendation on the book. I have it and have read it. I recently started the Keto Diet and dropped about 30 lbs in the same amount of days. and of course happy with the results. The key is getting to it and sticking to it. Carbs in vs Carbs out, and getting that working out it. With my hectic lifestyle some days it's tougher then others but all that is a choice.. I hope that you can get your neighbor back in the ring. great work out and he will sweat like a hog. depending on how long he has been an amputee it may take a while for his body to regulate the leg sweat again. it took me about a year before I noticed a difference . Just take a break wipe it down, put the liner back on and keep going. Thanks for the reply.

Garth, When I first got the amputation I was given the super, Duper Antiperspirant .. It helped a little in the beginning and I gradually got used to it. As you stated " it was messy" and kind of a pain in the ass. I just stopped using it. Leg still sweats, but not as bad as it used to... Stay strong brother.
