She is therefore giving her son trauma as well and no comfort or stability. It's a very sad pattern that pain and bad parenting cause individuals especially in their formative years. And very hard to break. One has to heal before they have children or it continues to be passed on to them. They also have no idea what good parenting or any healthy relationships are so it's hard to emulate / teach. They think as long as they don't do what their parents did that they are better. That's rarely the case nor should their horrible example of parents be the standard they hold themselves to. We need to do better for the kids in this world....
