What a coincidence you put this video up today. I found an Old Hickory knife this morning in the garage that needs some attention.

I have 2 of these... when you have the scales off I have found that if you put a really good heavy coat of of the linseed oil on the inside of the scales and let it set and soak ( I let it go overnight ) that it helps protect the walnut scales from the inside out

I have a few questions, can sanitiser be used in place of rubbing alcohol and can this be used with the steel wool on high carbon swords without damaging the blade?
@Mikishots
@Mikishots 8 месяцев назад
Problem: steel wool is coated with oil from the factory. Unless you're wiping again with alcohol after you've buffed the blued surface, you're not doing the blade any favors.

Brian, instead of linseed oil use pure tung oil from the "Real Milk paint company. It doesn't get rancid like linseed can and looks great with a few coats.

@MrByaeger

Yea linseed thrives on certain mold , especially around conifer and cedar tree. I live in rhe PNW and paint houses. Have to avoid any wood coatings with linseed in it, especially deck stuff. Not very easy to do

I didn't understand the mustard thing. What does that do?
@BrianWatersOutdoors
@BrianWatersOutdoors 9 месяцев назад
Mustard is very acidic, so you can use that instead of the bluing agent to essentially do the same thing to the knife blade.
