Security cameras are by far the biggest step we've taken to increase the security of our RV. Our new Reolink Argus 2 cameras allow us to connect to them with our cell phones providing a live camera view. This lets us keep an eye on our trailer and pets from anywhere we have cell signal!
We boondock and dry camp in remote areas of the National Forest and BLM land and leave our RV behind to explore and - while we hate to admit it - we do worry about our RV's safety. However, the piece of mind provided by these security cameras is incredible. They are motion activated meaning if someone is poking around our site the cameras will send a notification to our cell phones and begin recording.
Similar cameras exist like the Nest, Wyze, and Netgear Arlo, however we love our Reolink Argus 2 and recommend it to everyone.

My home system is Reolink and I like it. Now I need this one for the RV. I don't like leaving my pups and it spoils my trips worrying about them, but you can't always take them with you. Thanks for the review. People even mount solar panels with that tape and it works well.

So happy for you and the critters that you'll know things are OK. My Blink cams alert to temperature parameters but you could put a thermometer in view of your inside cam just to check. My Rottie didn't care much for high temps. Another great video!

Thank you for the video! You need wifi that's connected to the internet in order for the cameras to transmit the video and audio, correct? So what happens if you don't have a cell signal, do the cameras still record on their local SD card?

Without a doubt these cameras give us huge piece of mind. Whenever a bad thought passes through our heads we just hop on our cell phones and check to make sure everything is O.K. back home and all the anxiety washes away.

I have 2 of these with the solar panels, one over each door of the house, and 3 of their larger 5mp cameras. No monthly bill is nice. They have free cloud storage for one of these which is pretty nice.

I have an inexpensive digital thermometer that I keep in the RV in view of the security camera. That way when I check on the dogs I can see what the internal temperature is in the RV. Mine also has a remote probe to be put outside but I keep that part in the Fridge. That way when I check the dogs remotely, I can also make sure my food stays cold. I had an issue with an RV refrigerator in the past.

thanks for sharing - i have reolink cameras at home, and they seem to be great quality for the money, but the argus looked a bit pixeled to me in your video. not sure if it is the wifi connection, or the resolution on these cameras - but i would prefer a clearer picture. but great idea! loved the mounting locations.

You should point it in the direction of the hitch so if someone tries to back up to hitch at least you'll have the plate and vehicle infor recorded.

@@AmericaBound If you have wifi the video can be uploaded to the Reolink cloud. They provide free cloud service for one camera. To add additional cameras to the cloud requires a subscription with a monthly fee.

After watching your video I bought 2 Reolink Argus2 with 2 solar panels from there website looking forward to receive them.One question please, what the brand name of the telescopic ladder you are using? looks very handy to have. When you have time maybe look at the Wyze Cam and Wyze Cam Pan. Really inexpensive and the app for the phone does all of the things you mentioned. They are currently inside cameras only and are powered via USB. I have three of each and they work very nicely. I know you may not now need any other inside cameras but maybe in the future take a look because they are so inexpensive.

Can you give us an update on the Reolink cameras? Do you still use them? Did you do a permanent mount? I bought two and love them. Bought a 3rd Reolink of a different model and haven't got it mounted yet. I just turned 70 this year and still excitied about RV life. Thanks for the amazing videos.

The roof mounted camera, the stem that the cameras is that the stock stem, or did you get an extra length one. Any problem with the range of the vertical movement. Thanks thanks in advance

I am about a year and a half from striking out full time RVing and am still not sure what way to go as far as an RV. I'm leaning towards either a truck camper or trailer. A question about pulling a trailer. I like your camera idea. But, what if you are quite aways from your trailer and someone wants to drive off with it? I guess the cameras would be recording everything and where the trailer was going, provided the thieves don't notice you have them and don't destroy them before driving off. However, If someone doesn't have security cameras, what other precautions do you use or would you suggest other boon-dockers use to protect a trailer from being stolen? P.S. I taught elementary vocal music in Ft. Wayne for 31 years(I retired the Spring of 2010). My first fifteen years were at Bloomingdale Elementary, one year at Kekionga Middle School and my last fifteen years were at Forest Park Elementary. Also the first five years of teaching, besides teaching at Bloomingdale I traveled between schools; Weisser Park, South Wayne, Bunche, Waynedale, Study and Nebraska.

Howdy! How did you mount the solar panel? I see that it is screw in only and doesn't seem to have the same disc base as the camera to mount with the 3M tape...or does it? I'm on the verge of a purchase but can't figure out how to mount that panel without drilling holes.

That is a Sweet idea with the cameras it was so fun when David got so excited about them that I couldn't help but get excited too.. the camera inside will really give you peace of mind..I do have a question about the inside one will Alice or Butters knock down that one because of the cat bed and how much they like going up there? I have a question, regarding your Verizon hotspot wifi, does it use data when there’s no activity? We haven’t had a very good relationship with our hotspot - it seems data just disappears so quickly. So I’m hoping that if the camera doesn’t activate with movement it won’t use data… unless you check in to view the area. I’d that how it works?? Thanks much for all your awesome topics!! Lauri

Haven't seen all your videos yet, apologies if asked before. When you leave the pets and the trailer is interior temperature ever an issue, do you run A/C when gone, open windows, monitor remotely, etc? Would love to know how you manage temperature and pet safety/comfort. We have a dog and about to do some boondocking.

Do you keep your AC on when you leave for the animals? I know you have solar, just trying to figure out what to do with our dog when we can't take her with us. While we love all things Tesla and think the powerwall is an excellent solution for home based power distribution, it isn't practical for an RV setup. If we had a house though it would be powered by solar and we'd DEFINITELY have a Tesla powerwall or two.

interesting gadget but I would prefer something that has a loud alarm and then cashes video some place other than sd card in camera. Just pull camera off got data. Also we often boon dock beyond cellar range. I have game cams that can be set in a less than obvious place to record activity around our travel trailer.

The cameras use a minuscule amount of power, less even than our cell phones. The batteries on these can last for days, if not a full week before needing a charge. And they're only 5200mAh batteries.

Great video. Credit to you that I have decided to purchase the Reolink Argus. But, I was more intrigued by the ladder. Can you tell me what is the technical name for the ladder as well as where did you purchased with cost? Thanks.

I was going to ask the same question. I have a telescopic ladder but it is SO HEAVY! This one seemed to pop right up easily. (?) Amazon sells many just look at the weight.
