The chickens had a great space and now they are limited :( because of the hawks... Stream fish lines all around (above) where the chickens usually are and hawks won’t bother much coming. That has so far work for me. If they cannot get their wings fully extended, they won’t land to attack. Fences are expensive compared to fish lines . I also read that having black chickens keeps hawks away because they confuse them with crows and hawks don’t like crows. Crows have a tendency to “give away” the hawks location and hawks get so mad; kind of funny to see actually. Get some patio decoy birds, owl, eagles and place them around the chicken yard.
Thanks for your comments! What is the typical maximum distance between the fish lines you would propose? It is quite some span from one side to the other. I am also thinking about enlarging this structure so they have more space again. But there aren't many companies that provide this kind of materials.
I've heard fishing line up high across your property will deter them and that they won't fly below it.I've got that started on my property with a bunch of cds too. But I also have a large extension ladder so it helps. Stupid hawk lives in a tree within sight of my coop.
He's not that stupid then. Free chickens at the neighbour. ;-) I have the same problem. A few days ago the hawk pulled out the bars of my smaller coop and took out a chicken. These birds are strong! In this video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yABelfCXeDII.html) it wasn't successful, but now it was. I have now created steel brackets to reinforce the bars to prevent the hawk from pulling them out.
@@OutdoorsintheLowCountries yessir. We’ve only lost one over the last year. So far our 2 roosters and our all black German shepherd keep the hawks away. We did order a couple Black Ayam Cemani chickens. I heard the hawks stay away from them, as they look like Crows. We’ll see 👍🏻
@@gruntsffs1 Good luck with it. I had three very large Brahma Partridge roosters in the coop. These are even bigger than a hawk. But still they were attacked after a while. And a fox came to clean up the rest. I now have a much smaller coop with a top cover (see my video on marten attack ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bLB4jVzIGKo.html).
