After a 10 year old threatened to shoot his classmates, Florida sheriff Carmine Marceno was forced to handcuff the child to protect the students and teachers. Carmine joins Piers Morgan to say that handcuffing children is the last thing he wants to do, but that with the amount of shootings that happen in America every day, protection must come first. He goes on to say he wouldn't be able to sleep at night if he didn't do that and something terrible happened. Piers adds that at 10 years old the student knows the severity of those threats, saying parents need to be more involved. Carmine agrees and says parents need to work with the police and speak to their children about the seriousness of these issues and the importance of mental health.

IMO shame is never an effective way to stop anything. Education & consequences would be my way to go, not shaming. I agree all red flags should be reported, however how does a teen differentiate between a shocking statement & a real threat? We all know that online society is filled with anon people who say the most disgusting things for shock value, & sadly I reckon that the kids who do see _real_ threats from school shooters are so used to reading that sort of thing that they usually don't take it seriously. All kids should be taught to ALWAYS report, even if they think what they are reading could be a foul joke. I know there are many other components here, but re the red flags, the need to report asap is key.

I got perp walked out of 8th grade math in handcuffs cause I hung on the back of my friends car while on a skateboard that morning. It’s effective, and I def did not do it again.

Unfortunately, violence knows no age limit. Young offender and youth justice has not been able to curb these problems. Either America - the communities, the schools and the families, deal with the issue or the law and legal institutions will. Unfortunately lethal force can only be stopped by more lethal force. When it reaches that point, it's already too late.

@@bookwormnorway4522 I agree, but you have to minimize the risks before you can even get to that stage of helping. This is where proper police training will mean all the difference.

I agree when I was 10 I got terrified by our local copper and never got into trouble for 31 years(until I met my ex) but I always remembered that first ever scare, so the younger the better

Oh here we go again blaming violent video games for everything when it’s been scientifically proven to improve your happiness

I played Halo and Grand Theft Auto as a child and I don't want to go out there and shoot everybody and steal their cars and whatnot. I don't even have a criminal record. So it's not just video games by themselves and also their environment and if shooting is promoted and other things.

This guy is single-handedly creating dozens of serial shooters. Shaming children helps produce more, not less, shooters

Disagree, I live in Lee County and he is so amazing with our youth. He teaches all of his officers to treat young people with so much respect and spends tons of time in the lower income communities. He's a good man.
