Hi lamp boy , really like the videos and info you give, I've bought a miners lamp but can't identify it I've looked all over the internet, would you be able to help me if I send a picture , many thanks
I,ve got a Eccles Protector lamp. There is a small handle in the middle part, you can set it on O(open) or S(shut). I tried both but to me it does not make any difference. Can you please explain the function? Thank you, greetings from Friesland!
@@laurensbeerendonk2832 Hello! The purpose of the open and shut setting is for when the miner is testing for methane gas in the mine. Underneath the silver bonnet just above the glass is a series of holes. When the middle part is set to open air can flow through these holes into the lamp and onto the flame. As methane gas is lighter than air the gas will collect in high places against the roof of the mine. If the miner wants to test for gas in the roof he will slide the middle part to shut. That will close the holes above the glass and make the mine air flow into the lamp from the larger holes near the top of the lamp bonnet. I hope this helps.
