I've been on and off CG for 10 years and only just realised what my issue has been and why I've been going off CG... Because my hair is so over moisturised 😱
I have fine hight porosity hair i've been following the cg method for a 9 mounths and i've had moisture overload twice now i do what ever works for my hair (no co washinh i use silicones...) the cgm isn't for everyone 😁
Thank you SO MUCH for recommending Aphogee. My hair was a proper mess, like a big ball of fuzzy cotton wool. I just finished drying my hair and it's worked! I have curls again! I think I could have gotten even better results but I was in a bit of a hurry. Next time I will include more styling products and leave my deep conditioner in another 5 minutes. I wish I had known about this a long, long time ago and saved myself some hair horrors. I discovered the curly method through you and your blogs and videos are really informative. I never watch beauty videos, but I really enjoy yours. Thanks again.
Finally, an internet rabbit hole is a good thing! Saw a photo of you on Pinterest (someone's "curl goals" board😁), which brought me to your blog, which landed me here. Thank you for the very helpful information! Love that BB shampoo, too. Btw, if you've not yet discovered, it's pronounced "key-late."
Wait- so I could have found ALL the protein knowledge I've gathered, on my own, from multiple places, right here, on your channel, ALL in your ONE video?? Oh man, I could have saved myself MONTHS of research! 🤦♀️Lol! But seriously- excellent, accurate and absolutely helpful info. Thank you!! 👍👍
This video was so informative! I'm so happy I realized I have hydral fatigue. I just thought my hair was getting less curly over time. Thank you for this!
Thank you! I’m a newbie and saw people talking about “listen to your hair”, but was frustrated because I had no idea to know what it might be telling me. Your explanations of what your hair is likebw too much moisture or too much protein helped tremendously.
I thought it was a good thing that my hair is never greasy, but my ends are so dry no matter how much I moisturize and it tries to curl but never successful. Glad to come across your video! Will definitely try this!!! 😃
Make sure you're clarifying regularly. And try using a heat cap as that will help open up the cuticles of the hair shaft so it can better absorb moisture. I sell them here: bit.ly/2V5oUCS
Thank you so much Sue! Yes, I'm definitely going to do more videos. And of course there's always new content up on my curly girl blog, www.curlycailin.ie
I needed to see this….I have loose curls and wave, high porosity hair and find myself struggling with moisture/protein balance. I’ve been doing apple cider rinses and deep conditioning with added protein drops the last 2 weeks and my hair is finally recovering. Im learning that I need to keep up with a regular routine. I’ve been cgm for 5 years.
This is the most informative video i have ever seen on moisture-protein balance! I had to subscribe! Thank you so much! I am pretty sure i am in moisture overload, i have all of the signs! Aphogee is in the near future!
The Aphogee made my hair more straight.... never wanted to use it again. No idea why but glad this wasn't the case for you. I must say I adore shea moisture products, a little goes a long way, and especially the line for fine hair is bomb, as is the gel for "thick wavy hair" that works great on my fine 2c spiralls and swaves....
I suspect that's because you maybe didn't need to do a protein treatment if that's what it did to your hair. Great that shea moisture products work for you, but I will not recommend or use them on my hair or my channel. I do not believe they are good products and damage the hair in the long term.
Can you elaborate on how can organic products damage hair? I'd think if anything they can create build up, is that what you mean? Or moisture overload? Must say they are my holy grail for 6 years already, though only when applied the right way, in tiny amounts stretched with water and in accordance with dew point , etc but I guess that goes for all products really. Which products are your holy grail?
Organic products damage hair? Are you referring to Shea Moisture? They are full of cheap quality, heavy oils and butters which damage the hair and cause lots of problems. Great that they work for you, but as I said, I don't use them and don't recommend that brand on my channel or my blog. I have a couple of posts of my favourite products on my blog, www.curlycailin.ie
I tried to leave this comment on your blog but I wanted to say your modified rice water treatment is magical. I just discovered CG like last month, always wore my hair natural but never did anything fancy to it like styled or treatments, and no protein in the shampoo and conditioner I had been using. My hair was feeling so bleh this winter, really stringy, barely wavy anymore. But that rice water + briogeo really brought SO MUCH bounce back. I actually even found a couple of little skinny ringlets which I haven't seen in like 10 years.
Thank you so so much! I thought I was doing everything to revive my hair, moisturising and moisturising and letting it dry naturally and had started to think my curl pattern had just changed. I have low porosity hair so I didn’t think I needed protein - Your website has the best information out there! I looked at my routine and there was no protein in it at all. I bought a protein conditioner yesterday and already have a few ringlets back. I’m going to try rice water and might buy the aphogee for the future. I’m so so happy, thank you!!!
That's great, thanks Emma! How has your hair responded to the protein? I'm going to try the rice water today (without any added product) - wish me luck! 😁
@@tattie33 It’s been pretty good since and I try not to go overboard with protein because I know that’s just as bad (although I was very tempted to when I found out protein worked!). Good luck!
For about $50 you can get a filter for your shower. These remove chlorine and lime etc. Im a curly girl and have noticed a big decrease in frizz aswell as my skin being less dry.
Thanks for this video. It is really good. Sorry if I missed it in the video but I have heard that aphogee isn't cg friendly. Is that true and if so do you use a sulphate shampoo next time you wash your hair? I would like to give this a try.
Gabriella, Josh said that your video was awesome. And your hair is very pretty. He noticed the Aussie gel behind you and said, hey that’s the gel we sent to Gabriella. Lookin good cousin keep it up I learned so much in this video to take care of my hair.
Ahhhh ha ha ha ha ha ha! Awww that's so sweet that he remembered! And yes, those are the very bottles of gel you guys sent to me! I love that he noticed that! Also, SUPER glad you know how to get that protein moisture balance right in your hair now! ha ha ha ha
Thank you so much for this and your blog, your detail for information is amazing! If you have moisture overload do you completely stop products with moisture and only use protein products until you have a balance?
This video is so helpful! I think I might need to do some sort of treatment myself and look at adding a protein product into my routine! Out of curiosity which of those AG products do you recommend? They're some of the few which i can easily access in store in Australia so I was wondering if you recommend them
Thank you for all your content! I'm just getting into CG (benefits of quarantine free time!) and found myself reading tons of your blog posts and watching your videos. I want to start small and not buy too many products so my question is: What CG-approved/silicone-free conditioner is good to use after the Aphogee Protein Treatment that is also good for regular use? AG Boost Conditioner is $30 so I don't want to buy it just for this, if I can use something else I'll be buying for regular use. Namely, I'm thinking of purchasing: As I Am Coconut CoWash, Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Shampoo and Hairfinity Strengthening Amino Masque. Can I do J&J -> Aphogee -> Hairfinity Masque (-> OUAI Rose Hair & Body Oil?) and be ok? Thank you so much for all your help in educating us/me!!
Great video! Learned a few things I did not know, which I always love! Question for you; the Aussie Instant Freeze gel... now that the formula has changed do you still like it?
Yay, so glad you found it helpful. The Aussie Instant Freeze formula COMPLETELY CHANGED! It's not even the same product anymore. I don't like it as much, but it's still not a bad gel. It's just not instant freeze gel.
Hi friend, I was very much confused about hair porosity, I thought that I have high porosity hair because they are damaged from roots to tips due to chemical straightening and I had started applying oils daily ,and the new growth that is coming is also becoming dry frizzy and crispy one day I had read about hair porosity on ur website from that day i had realized that i had low porosity hair ,because whatever oil i apply ,whether it is argan oil, grapeseed oil,or any light oil but they are not responding to any oils ,so i had stopped using oils on my hair and they are behaving fine now ,I only do shampoo now and benefits of not using oils are they dry fast in comparison to when i am using oils and when I am using oils ,oil don't come out of my hair after washing completely, I can't use any protein masks on my hair because it become hard heena ,banana mask , rice water ,aloevera gel everything that is containing even small amount of protein and my hair hates silicones also ,what would be ur opinion about my hair condition ?I also want to know ur opinion for my satisfaction?
How does someone with color-treated hair clarify? Does ANYONE manufacture a shampoo that will clarify but not strip the color? As you are aware, coloring one's hair (for gray rather than excitement) is very costly.
This is fantastic! I have been dealing with this problem for a long time and thought I needed more and more moisture. Didn’t know I was ruining my hair. What you you recommend going forward to make sure this doesn’t happen anymore? What do you recommend a good protein/moisture balance? Thank you!
Good info. You’re always thorough. I appreciate it. I have the same type of hair as you. Low po with similar curls. I only use protein in a conditioning treatment form as well-so I have better control. All of my products are protein free -(Or have small proteins like silk). Wheat is the worst. Too much protein and my hair is like straw. I’ve heard that Spirulina masks work great. Much like the rice water. Going to try both eventually. I was afraid the rice would be too harsh on my low porosity hair. Thanks for clearing up the rumors about low po hair and protein- Yes all hair needs protein, some or all of the time.
Hey, great video. I also bought the treatment, but not really sure if i should use it already as i happen to have hygral fatigue. Now for 8 weeks.. next month ill go to a hair stylist but do u might have a tip for me? U mentioned Rice water& modified mask, been doing that for couple of times now. So including mild proteins and wait until it gets better? Did u use ANYthing to style ur hair? Thankyou🙇♀️
Great video! I was wondering how this compares to doing a home gelatin treatment. It seems like you get a similar hard cast? Are the results much better from the store bought one?
Personally I've never found any noticeable results from using gelatin, but yes it does give a hard cast. It's also not vegan friendly, at all which puts a lot of people off.
Curly Cailín thanks! Yeah I tried it once but didn’t let my hair fully dry before rinsing. I was nervous about pieces breaking off. Plus, it smelled so bad!!! Haha
Hey girl! 💕 I dont know if I missed it so apologies if I'm slow 😂 but is there a reason you dont use the moisturizing treatment that comes with the 2step aphogee pack?
Thank you for the great review of this! I wanted to use this. I'm not super strict with CGM but this does has silicone and I want to use this cause I've tried every protein treatment in stores and they don't have enough protein my hair needs
Hi I recently tried your rice method. And it seemed like it was going well because once I was down I saw clumps but when I applied products and let it dry it became stringy and somewhat hard. I’m not sure what to do at this point. I’ve tried Shea moisture yogurt protein mask as well and while my hair wasn’t as frizzy my 2c curls were undefined and stringy. I don’t understand why my hair has been so stringy and undefined lately. Should I try a stronger protein treatment?? Or should I try deep conditioner treatments?
Hi Karina, so sorry for my delayed reply! Was your hair hard because it had a cast? Are you familiar with that? If you use a mousse, custard, gel etc you will get a hard cast on your hair once it dries, and you need to scrunch that out to release the soft, bouncy curl clumps underneath. As for Shea Moisture, I don't use that brand or recommend it as their products are full of heavy oils and butters which build up on the hair and cause damage. I suggest you clarify your hair, to get rid of that, and then follow up with a deep condition. Hope that helps.
I have 2b/2c virgin hair and it honestly confuses me how my hair seems to want protein constantly. I thought Aphogee was supposed to be hardcore but after using it my results last one wash and im back to being frizzy and undefined. Rice water rinses give me more curls but I still get wet frizz. I wonder if having a conditioner and styling products with protein in would help? I've spent so much money and removed glycerin and bought so many products and I can never get the balance right. Maybe my hair was just supposed to be frizzy.
yes, the colour of the Aphogee 2 Step Protein Treatment is brown. The white consistency you're thinking of is the Aphogee 2 Min Keratin Treatment, which is different.
als jij jou haar met proteïne schampo wast dan hoort ht juist gedroogd te worden met 1 föhn want door de warme gaan je haarschrubben goed open staan zo dat de proteïne goed opgenomen kan worden tot in ht diepste van je haar
Hi Gabriella. Do you have any recommendations for protein rich deep conditioners available in shops in Ireland. Really battling to get hold of brigeo/hairfinity/ curl junkie etc online. Thank you!
What do you think about using the aphogee keratin 2 minute reconstructor in with your rice water masque? I think it's a protein deep conditioner but I'm not certain.
I only have 2 videos. I haven't done a video on my modified rice water treatment yet. But it's will be coming soon as I see lots of people doing it wrong or struggling with getting the right consistency etc. So stay tuned!
I followed the link to buy AG Products that I've been wanting to try but it doesn't work, can you please let me know where do you buy them from? I live in the UK, cheers!
Hi, the link is for Ulta I believe. Unfortunately you can't get AG Hair in the UK or Europe - not that I'm aware of anyway. I get them in the US, sent to friends or family who then send them to me in the post. Sorry I can't be of more help x
yes, I always use heat when diffusing - usually a medium heat. If I'm in a hurry I'll up the speed, not the heat. As I'm trying to dry my hair faster, not hotter
My hair is in moisture overload, and I followed your advice. I did rice water treatments first, but they didn't solve my problem. I did the aphogee treatment last night, and my hair is looking a lot better, but still gets frizzy, feels too soft, can't hold a curl for a day, and just feels like there is too moisturized. I don't know what to do next. Do you have any advice?
Hiya, if your hair is really over moisturised, you may need to repeat this process several times, every few weeks. When my hair was in hygral fatigue (which is SEVERELY over moisturised hair) it took about 3 months of regular weekly modified rice water rinses before my curls were back to full health. One treatment isn't going to do it. You need patience and consistency.
Depends what products you're looking at, As I Am have many different products. Look at the ingredients of the product you have, and see if any of the proteins mentioned in this video are listed
I liked your video and went to see your website and bought one of the products that you recommend on your website for moisturizing - Biolage Hydra Source conditioner and I was disappointed to see that it contains Methylparaben, that is a paraben. 😫 It would be great if you write also the ingredients. Here in Europe most parabens are forbidden as they are harmful for health but unfortunately this one is allowed to certain extent. I am doing my best to buy paraben free, silicon free and other unhealthy substance free products.
You don’t have any issues with Parabens? Good to know. Fortunately there are few informative videos like GreenBeauty, to mention one, that also tell you what substances are contained in the products that we put on our hair and recommend healthy and environment friendly products. Better be informed before hand than repairing damages. This is my view. Bye bye.
Could I clarify + protein treatment twice a week or do I have to do it weekly? I’ve been struggling with terrible moisture overload for a while and I’ve lost all patience.
No that would be too much on your hair, unless you are using gentle clarifying cleansers such as Bounce Curl Clarifying Shampoo and products containing protein in your conditioners and stylers, rather than a protein treatment - if that makes sense. You could not do what I did in this video, once or even twice a week. You would go over into protein overload - which also isn't good and takes a while to fix.
