I’ve seen somewhere talk about amide bond and the explanations seem similar to peptide bond when forming a polypeptide chain of amino acids, but what’s the difference?

Fpr the tip given when describing the primary structure, if a question therefore asked to describe the primary structure, would you just recite the definition in the top box, despite it not including the word sequence?

Hi miss estruch, nice videos, I have been using for the past few weeks recommended by a fellow pal who ain’t wrong on how you really go through the aqa a level bio which I really appreciate. My plan was and still is to watch ur vids, make notes on the vid, condense it multiple times as I have some something with the notes and then do a blurt method of writing everything I remember from that subtopic. E.g with carbohydrates write everything Ik and if I forgotten something I’ll add it in green ink. Moreover My enquiry was on this video of proteins on how you have went through it but didn’t mention fibrous nor globular proteins and all the examples. Do we need to know this or is you’re information for teaching good enough to use then revise with do then do practise exam questions and still get good grades. As I feel I have missed out something which may effect my grade in the subtopic proteins. This may happen with other subtopics however I just wanted to know with how you have taught each subtopic with what you need to know is enough for the exams? Thank you faysal
@MissEstruchBiology
@MissEstruchBiology 2 года назад
Hello, So glad the videos are helping you and your revision technique sounds good with the blurting. Fibrous and globular proteins are not on the AQA specification, nor do you need to know lots of examples. This video covers all the content on the theory for proteins in the Topic 1 Biological Molecules part of the specification that you could be assessed on. Hope that helps.

Hi Miss Estruch, The spec say "Students should be able to relate the structure of proteins to properties of proteins named throughout the specification." Which proteins/ type of proteins does this mean? Thanks
@MissEstruchBiology
@MissEstruchBiology 2 года назад
This is a lot of proteins! have a look through the specification and note down all proteins mentioned. It includes all mentioned enzymes, antibodies, antigens, membrane proteins, muscle proteins etc.

hello, at 7:01 where it says the tertiary structure is held together by ionic, hydrogen and disulfide bonds, are you referring to the hydrogen bonds that are formed in the secondary structure? Also, why is disulphide spelled in 2 different ways (disulfide and disulphide)?
@malikaturla
@malikaturla 2 года назад
Disulfide and disulphide are both correct. One is the American version and the other British.

Hey Miss! there's something that's really confusing me about this topic it isn't really a part of the lesson but in later lessons about enzymes, it's said that they are in tertiary structure, so do proteins stop at a certain structure or level? they don't have to complete all four stages?
@MissEstruchBiology
@MissEstruchBiology 3 года назад
Hello Both the tertiary and quaternary are final 3D structural stages for a protein. The only difference is that a quaternary structure has more than 1 polypeptide chain folded into the final 3D shape. Hope that helps

hello miss miss i have a question in soluble proteins the hydrophilic r group are on the outside of the protein and the hydrophobic r groups are in the center of protein. what is the arrangement of r groups in an insoluble protein?

Hi Miss Estruch, What is the role of hydrogen bonds, ionic bonds and disulfide bridges in the structure of proteins? Thank you
@MissEstruchBiology
@MissEstruchBiology 4 года назад
The position of the bond, which is determined by the amino acid sequence, determines how the protein folds. Therefore, the position of the bonds determines the final 3d shape (tertiary structure) and thus the function of the protein.
