It is great but I think that there is an error. Shouldn't the new amino acid attach to the first amino acid not the last?

That makes sense since that agrees with the way the nucleophillic attack mechanism occurs

Isn't the peptide bond formed between the amino acid that was just attached to tRNA in the P site and the amino acid that is in the A site- meaning the amino acid in A site and the 'newest' (the last one to be released from tRNA) amino acid from P site NOT the amino acid at the end of the polypeptide chain, which your graphic indicates ?

EXACTTTTLYYYYYY!!!! I had to watch another video, to clarify the doubt. Gave a thumbs down to the video because of that gross error which was made. The Amino acid in A site would attach to the one at the P site (Peptide bond site), and not the one at the far end of the polypeptide chain. There was an error in this video. KhanAcademy, please correct it ASAP!

Fantastically informative. Thank you very kindly for answering a question I had which was how does the correct tRNA get added to the next codon along the mRNA chain by explaining that it's trial and error with many tRNA molecules randomly arriving at the next codon, and the first one from this random collection to have the correct anticodon gets added.

Nice, but you should have counted the start codon, which makes for eleven amino acids, including the first one which is methionine

in tRNA, the amino acid coded by the anti-codon is not used, but rather the codon of the mRNA. So, the complementary chain does not determine the amino acid sequence. Does the same rule apply to mRNA complementary sequence of DNA or are the amino acids determined by the mRNA code?

Shouldn't the methionine be the last amino acid hanging out since it is the first codon. The incoming amino acids should form peptide bonds with the closest amino acid, not the one at the far end right?

I think the first codon which is the AUG enters the aminoacyl and not the peptidyl t-RNA site.............

+Adriana Minxie the amino acid is attached to a special tRNA called initiator tRNA and is the only tRNA that can attach directly to the P site. all other tRNA (including the Met for elongation) can only attach to the A site

I really like khan academy but this video is one of the worst they have on their site. There were several errors that are fairly crucial, especially if someone is relying on this knowledge for the MCAT.
