Kezia is a fucking monster of an album. Damn near 20 years later and I still love it as passionately as I did when I first heard it. Yeah, maybe some of the transitions are more abrupt than they would do now or maybe they would have written things slightly differently in retrospect, but those idiosyncrasies are irreplaceable parts of what makes an album like Kezia so incredible. It’s just pure passion and investment in their craft and vision and the result is fucking glorious.

How the hell you compare Power Metal to Progressive Metal (core?) ? And better in what way? Technically, Dragonforce are insanely complex and technical. They are band of pros (not to say that PTH are not pros) . So no, they are not technicaly better than Dragonforce. Maybe you like them more than Dragonforce, which I certainly do.

I went to this tour in Philly specifically to see Protest the Hero, and I will never forget the Dragonforce jean jacket power metal bros giving them the finger and throwing shit at them. The sad thing is that they killed that show. They were awesome.

I know they sort of have more say than anyone else, but they really sell themselves short on how well these songs were written, they had a natural knack for making memorable work with how technical and energetic the material (is) was. It must be strange to try and get back in the seat that you were in 10 years ago but that album has aged extremely well and set such a high bar for bands in that style as well as a benchmark for all their albums to follow, and the production was such an excellent middle ground between raw punk and metal clarity.
@AggressiveTendencies
@AggressiveTendencies 8 лет назад
We agree entirely. That album has held up remarkably, but you can't really blame them for not being all "we made a perfect album, we're great," you know? Then everyone would be up in arms about them being too cocky. That being said, it is a perfect album.

They had just released one of the greatest prog metal albums in Scurrilous when they lost Moe, one of the tightest and most inventive drummers in all of rock... then Riffy takes off after the next album. PTH calling it quits still hurts to this day, but I get it.

As a musician, a drummer, a fan of progressive music and great music in general these guys are insanely talented every note has the perfect place ,they mean every note nothing is just filler. I got to say, from watching interviews from far as back when they're in school to now they're pretty grounded guys they are realists which is a tribute to their Talent the way they write music, their whole way of thinking. They don't take themselves too seriously and I think that's a good thing for a lot of musicians and people in general to realize.They have the right balance between confidence in there playing and modesty,and neither is overdone. If I may continue the ass kissing ,individually their incredible musicians and as a unit in the context of the band It's Magic as far as this musician / fan is concerned. they've been my new favorite band for a good while now. No reason to stop guys you can just keep getting better and better. Fellow countrymen of yours Rush lasted for 40 years I don't think they thought they would make it to 10 years themselves so never say never guys.

I drove 9 hours north to see their first date in Toronto. It was absolutely worth every second of it. Unbelievable performance. The only thing I hated about it was how incredibly JAM PACKED the venue was. It was like being trapped in a can, shoulder to shoulder with sweaty bros throwing shoes, beer cans and whatever else they could. For anyone who didn't make it, I'll say that they DID have several HD cameras set up (professional quality) along with a ton of Gopros up on stage so don't be surprised if there's a DVD coming from this. I spoke with Riffy after the show and asked him. He said that he wasn't sure what was coming out of it. I guess we shall wait and see.

When I still listened to Edge 102 on the radio, I was listening to the Phoenix Club one night, and the late Martin Streek put on Blindfold's Aside. It was difficult to get into it at first, but I remember I instantly liked the guitar work and especially when it slowed down to build up to the final crescendo sequence, which is probably the best one among many such moments on that album. I remembered them many years later, and bought Kezia while I was at HMV(when it still existed) one day. 10/10 record.

Kezia is my favorite PTH album, for both the music and the way the story is fleshed out and is an actual story. Fortress is a great album as well, but I didn't find the lyrics quite as engaging; the story didn't seem as good as the one in Kezia.
